Chapter 619 - 599: Don’t Rush Too Far Forward, Survival is Key, Dog Lovers
"Kill these members of the Alien Race outside the city!"
"Don’t let them surround Yu City! We need to turn the tables and encircle them, don’t let any of them escape!"
At the South Gate of Yu City, Yang Chan saw the number of Alien Race members dwindling. Their experts were gathering outside the North Gate, with even more moving to surround and kill those at Purple Mountain. He felt a great sense of relief.
Yang Chan shouted from within the crowd.
The Martial Arts Experts in the crowd immediately charged down from the city gate. Not only did the City Defense Commanders not stop them, but they also joined the encirclement and slaughter of the Alien Race experts.
The result was more or less what Yang Chan had expected. Unless they had no other choice, these City Defense Commanders would never choose to be besieged. Now that they had an opportunity, they certainly wouldn’t let it go.
Yang Chan clutched his Long Sword and, "with great difficulty," slew an External Refining Copper Skin expert from the Alien Race. Not far from him, Han Bingyu was also clashing with an External Refining expert from the Alien Race.
Just as an Inner Refining Expert from the Alien Race to Han Bingyu’s right was about to strike and conveniently kill her, a Hidden Weapon shot out from Yang Chan, piercing straight through the expert. A nearby warrior seized the opening and cut him down. The warrior couldn’t believe an Inner Master had been so easy to kill, but on the battlefield, there was no time to dwell on it; he had to continue slaying the Alien Race.
The method Yang Chan used to kill the Inner Master from the Alien Race was a Famous Weapon Level Hidden Weapon he had obtained from the Solitary Void Trial Array. Its effect was extraordinary, capable of easily slaying even Inner Refining Experts.
Of course, this was also because Yang Chan’s Hidden Weapon had been aimed at the Alien Race member’s vital points, extinguishing their life force in an instant.
Han Bingyu, on the other hand, was still too young and lacked the battlefield awareness to watch her surroundings in all directions.
’When you’re fighting someone, you have to stay away from those with higher cultivation than you. You should try to pick opponents who are weaker than you, in a spot with no other experts nearby. Otherwise, you could easily be killed with no way to even fight back.’
Don’t ask why Yang Chan was so familiar with this principle; he was simply a very cautious person.
His participation in battles on the border had taught him many life lessons—lessons learned from the survivors.
Sometimes, you have to know when to slack off and not try to be the hero.
Although Han Bingyu was diligent, there were some things you could only learn through experience.
PFFT!
The Long Sword in Yang Chan’s hand pierced the body of the Alien Race member fighting Han Bingyu, extinguishing its last shred of life.
The bodies of the Alien Race were different from those of the Human Race, but some fatal wounds were still the same, allowing for a one-hit kill.
Yang Chan had killed quite a few, so he was naturally well aware of this.
"Pharmacist Yang!"
Han Bingyu let out a long sigh of relief after seeing Yang Chan kill the Alien Race member.
Fighting a member of the Alien Race was different from sparring with people from the Cyan Yuan Sect. This alien exuded an extremely dense killing intent, as if it had grown up in an environment of constant slaughter.
Their cultivation levels were similar, yet Han Bingyu had been at a constant disadvantage. This made her realize the difference between clashing with the Alien Race and fighting fellow Cyan Yuan Sect Disciples.
It wasn’t that she had never fought or even killed before, but she had never clashed with the Alien Race and was caught completely off guard.
"When you fight, pay attention to your surroundings. Don’t engage someone where there are experts nearby. Otherwise, a casual sword strike from them, or even just the aftershock of their battle, could kill you!"
As Yang Chan spoke, he retrieved the Hidden Weapon, which landed back in his hand.
It was a Famous Weapon Level Hidden Weapon. Since it was retrievable, he certainly wouldn’t just abandon it.
The difficulty of creating one was immense.
It might not even be possible to create one within the Cyan Yuan Sect.
Forging a Famous Weapon places very high demands on an Artifact Refiner, and basically no one in the current Cyan Yuan Sect could meet those requirements.
Previously, the Hall Master of the Artifact Refining Hall was the most skilled at Artifact Refining in the Cyan Yuan Sect, but he had been taken to the Merak Sacred Land by Liu Xuan.
The skills of the current Artifact Refiners in the Cyan Yuan Sect were far inferior.
The few Famous Weapons the Cyan Yuan Sect possessed were mostly obtained from Secret Realms, further proving the difficulty of forging them.
Under these circumstances, Yang Chan wouldn’t discard these Hidden Weapons so easily. It also allowed him to conveniently erase any traces that he had acted.
"You’re right, Pharmacist Yang!"
"I sensed the aura of death just now. I really thought I was going to die here!"
A bitter look appeared on Han Bingyu’s face. While she was fighting that Alien Race member, she had felt a terrifying aura envelop her. She couldn’t sense its location, however, and was powerless to resist it.
The only thing she could do was focus on her fight with the External Refining Copper Skin expert.
Fortunately, that terrifying aura later disappeared, and then she saw Yang Chan make his move, helping her kill the expert from the Alien Race.
"Don’t rush in too far!"
"Staying alive is what’s important!"
Yang Chan offered a reminder. By now, they had already left Yu City through the South Gate.
Behind them lay the territory of the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty, which was also the way back to the Cyan Yuan Sect.
The remaining members of the Alien Race were falling one by one under the blades of the other humans.
The Alien Race’s encirclement had been broken.
The defending soldiers of Yu City charged toward the East and West Gates, turning the tables to encircle and kill the Alien Race experts.
Spurred on by Yang Chan’s earlier shout, these people certainly weren’t going to miss such a golden opportunity.
Killing these invading Alien Race members was a great merit. Naturally, everyone wanted to kill a few more to show off their contribution.
"Um, Pharmacist Yang, should we leave Yu City now and head straight back to the Cyan Yuan Sect, or should we wait for the outcome here?"
Han Bingyu asked this as she saw some people heading directly toward the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty.
Not everyone chose to stay behind at a time like this.
This was especially true for the Loose Cultivators.
Before, they had been trapped in Yu City. To survive, they had no choice but to fight the Alien Race.
But it was different now. They could leave directly, so they did so decisively.
"Let’s leave."
"The situation is unclear. You and I can’t help much here. We’d be better off returning to the Cyan Yuan Sect and waiting for the final result."
"The Cyan Yuan Sect has a large stockpile of Spirit Medicine. Refining them into Elixirs is something we can do, and it’s our best option."
Yang Chan glanced toward the South Gate and Purple Mountain. The signs of battle there were growing more intense, with Qi and Blood surging into the sky. The aura of combat was becoming fiercer, suggesting the fight was reaching a fever pitch.
Now was the perfect time to leave. There was no need to stay.
If the major Holy Lands won, he would still have to leave Yu City. Aside from being able to take the ordinary Spiritual Materials that Han Bingyu had collected, there was nothing else for him here.
On the other hand, if the major Holy Lands lost, he would have to flee anyway. He might even be targeted by the Alien Race again, which would be even more troublesome.
After comparing the two possibilities, the choice was obvious.
The ordinary Spirit Medicine Han Bingyu had collected wasn’t very valuable. If the Holy Lands won, the materials would eventually be delivered to the Cyan Yuan Sect, so it made little difference whether he took them now or not.
Therefore, Yang Chan’s decision was to leave first. That way, even in the worst-case scenario, he would have more time to escape.
Once the major Imperial Dynasties and Holy Lands reacted, dealing with these members of the Alien Race wouldn’t be a problem.
So, the most urgent matter at hand was to leave.
The two phrases he had told Han Bingyu—"Don’t rush in too far!" and "Staying alive is what’s important!"—were also reminders to himself. He shouldn’t recklessly charge into danger just because his cultivation had reached the Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster Realm.
After all, a Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster was not invincible. There were still Blood Exchange Martial Saint experts above them.
"I’ll listen to whatever you say, Pharmacist Yang!"
Han Bingyu replied with a smile.
Asking the question had been an unconscious reflex. Her instincts didn’t want her to re-enter Yu City either. After all, Yu City was a place of chaos right now, and getting caught up in it would likely mean facing danger again.
She had already felt the threat of death before, and once was more than enough.
Most of the people who had come out of the South Gate of Yu City had already chosen to flee.
...
"Saintess, the strength of these Alien Race Martial Saints seems to be gradually increasing!"
Beside the Merak Saintess, He Zixuan, a Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster Elder frowned as he looked at the Alien Race’s Blood Exchange Martial Saint experts.
"At first, their Combat Power didn’t seem that strong, but as time goes on, it seems to be constantly increasing. This is not a good situation for us."
No one wanted to see their enemy’s strength continually rise. If this kept up, the outcome of the battle might very well be reversed.
"The Sin Cleansing Demon Suppressing Array was what restricted these Alien Race experts. Without the Array’s suppression, their strength is naturally returning to its true Blood Exchange Level Combat Power."
"Otherwise, did you really think Blood Exchange Martial Saint experts would be so easy to deal with?"
"The situation here is getting out of control. We need to find a chance to leave!"
"To truly deal with these Alien Race members, we’ll need the Martial Saint experts from the major Imperial Dynasties and Holy Lands to step in and suppress them!"
After clashing with these Blood Exchange experts from the Alien Race, the Merak Saintess quickly understood their situation.
If she had the chance, she naturally wanted to kill these Alien Race Martial Saints as well. After all, the flesh, blood, and bones of a Martial Saint were the finest materials, whether for Artifact Refining or Alchemy.
This was especially true for these members of the Alien Race. The Human Race had specifically created methods for Refining their bodies to create Superior Elixirs.
These were effective for both Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmasters and Blood Exchange Martial Saints, a fact recorded in some of the books left behind by the Purple Void Imperial Dynasty.
During the era of the Purple Void Imperial Dynasty, the Human Race viewed the Alien Race as Servants, no different from livestock. However, humans had no desire to eat them raw. Instead, Pharmacists had specifically researched how to use them for Alchemy, putting them to use.
By Refining their entire life essence into an Elixir, one could create pills without any Spirit Medicine, and the effects were excellent.
And these beings, defined as the Sin Race, were the best choice of material.
Simply killing the unruly members of the Alien Race was a waste. Only by utilizing their entire bodies could their full value be realized. Although this method was cruel, few people objected when it was applied to the Alien Race.
It was like when people killed and ate mutts. Aside from dog lovers, everyone else enjoyed the meal. Sometimes, even the so-called dog lovers would join in and eat most heartily.
The Earth Demons in the Merak Sacred Land served a similar purpose, contributing to the strength of the Holy Land. This was a major reason why the Earth Demons hadn’t been wiped out in the Merak Sacred Land—they still had value and were considered a renewable resource.
This was why, back in the Secret Realm, the people from the Merak Sacred Land had not discarded the corpses of the Alien Race creatures they killed, but had taken them away instead.
