Chapter 607 - 588: A Flood Dragon in Water Is Like a True Dragon, Wreaking Havoc

  • Next Chapter

Within the Purple Void Secret Realm, dragon roars echoed from the direction of the Flood Dragon Pond, lasting for quite some time.

The roars only vanished three days after the Merak Saintess, Gu An, and the others had departed.

According to the Black Dragon, the Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s life force had vanished. It must have perished!

This outcome was just as Yang Chan had expected. With so many forces moving against the Ink Jade Flood Dragon, their success was almost guaranteed.

The Ink Jade Flood Dragon was confined to the vicinity of the Flood Dragon Pond, unable to stray too far. This was the handiwork of the Purple Void Imperial Dynasty, as the pond required a Flood Dragon to sustain it.

The Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s aura sustained the extreme cold within the Flood Dragon Pond, preventing the pond from losing its unique properties due to the lack of a dragon’s nourishment.

Thus, the Ink Jade Flood Dragon was essentially locked in the Flood Dragon Pond. The Purple Void Imperial Dynasty had put measures in place for this very reason. Although the current Ink Jade Flood Dragon was not the original one, the Imperial Dynasty had still deployed a Grand Array over the pond to restrain it.

If this Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s strength had reached the peak of its realm, it might have been able to repel the forces from the major powers. After all, absolute power suppresses all. Unfortunately, the Ink Jade Flood Dragon lacked such strength.

The Ink Jade Flood Dragon was not a pure-blooded creature, and the Flood Dragon Pond was constantly absorbing its power, limiting its strength. This severely restricted the power it could wield.

Without these restrictions, no one would have been able to stop an expert of the Blood Exchange Level from escaping. Alas, the Ink Jade Flood Dragon did not have that option.

This restriction was precisely why the Black Dragon hadn’t chosen the Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s body. Even if he could obtain it, he would still be bound by the Magic Array above the Flood Dragon Pond. It was a physical restriction on the body itself, and there was nothing he could do about it.

The power he could currently wield was even weaker than that of the Ink Jade Flood Dragon.

Yang Chan’s thoughts turned to the Black Dragon. Its situation was actually quite similar to the Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s. It was bound to the Profound Yin Hanging Bead and couldn’t stray too far from it. If the Profound Yin Hanging Bead were to be destroyed, the Black Dragon would vanish completely.

The thought flashed through Yang Chan’s mind, but he quickly dismissed it. ’After all, I’m not the one being restricted.’

The Merak Saintess’s group returned with great speed. Soon after the Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s aura vanished, they were back. However, the auras of the survivors had changed, a clear sign of injuries sustained in battle. Furthermore, several who had left did not return at all.

Yang Chan took a closer look and saw that Gu An had made it back alive, though his arm was wrapped in a blood-soaked white cloth. He had clearly been wounded at the Flood Dragon Pond.

The expedition to the Flood Dragon Pond was clearly not as simple as it seemed. The ones who never returned were the best proof of that.

Compared to the Solitary Void Trial Array, the Flood Dragon Pond was far more dangerous.

At the same time, they brought back chests filled with Spirit Medicine, a harvest from the Flood Dragon Pond. At least their efforts weren’t entirely in vain.

Additionally, there were several blood-stained chests that still carried the aura of a Flood Dragon. They undoubtedly contained parts of the Ink Jade Flood Dragon’s corpse—the Merak Sacred Land’s share of the spoils.

The flesh and blood of a Flood Dragon, especially one at the Blood Exchange Martial Saint Level, was incredibly precious. It contained immense Essence Qi, making it a natural Elixir. Consuming its flesh could aid one’s Cultivation and had a profound effect on Tempering the physical body.

Yang Chan had read about this in Pharmacist texts. They stated that every part of a member of the Dragon Race was a treasure. Even though the Ink Jade Flood Dragon wasn’t a pure-blooded dragon, it was still highly effective and would certainly be of great use to the Merak Saintess and her followers.

"I finally understand what the old sayings mean about a Flood Dragon finding water and raising hell!"

"A Flood Dragon in water is like a True Dragon!"

"Inside the Flood Dragon Pond, that creature fought while outnumbered and still held the upper hand."

"If the major powers hadn’t played their trump cards, far more people would have died!"

Back in the Merak Sacred Land’s encampment, Gu An spoke with Yang Chan, sighing with deep emotion.

He was recounting the events after Yang Chan asked him about the Flood Dragon.

The saying "A Flood Dragon in water is like a True Dragon" didn’t mean it literally transformed into one, but that its Combat Power became comparable to that of a True Dragon.

Of course, this was merely the perception of mortals. In the water, a Flood Dragon’s Combat Power was immense; it could command the waves, making it incredibly difficult to handle.

In the Black Dragon’s eyes, however, it was still just a ’mixed-blood creature, not even worth mentioning.’

The Combat Power a pure-blooded dragon could unleash was far beyond what a Flood Dragon could ever hope to match. The gap between them was immense.

Yang Chan listened quietly. For the most part, Gu An did all the talking, as it was his first time witnessing a Flood Dragon, and the experience had left him deeply shaken.

A Destiny Golden Dragon had once appeared in the borderlands, but Gu An had been in Qing State at the time and missed it. Besides, a Destiny Golden Dragon wasn’t a True Dragon; it was a unique existence, a creature manifested from a nation’s converged destiny.

The Ink Jade Flood Dragon, in contrast, possessed a true physical body, could command the waters of the Flood Dragon Pond, and had terrifying Combat Power.

It had rampaged freely among a crowd of Saint Sons and Saintesses from the Holy Lands, Princes and Princesses from the Imperial Dynasties, and even experts of the older generation. Despite so many powerful figures joining forces, they were helpless against it. In the end, they had to resort to their ultimate trump cards just to bring the Ink Jade Flood Dragon down.

Even so, the major powers all suffered considerable losses.

If not for the substantial rewards, they would have felt the losses were too great. However, the items they coveted most—the Secret Order and the Cross-Realm Teleportation Array—were nowhere to be found. This was a source of great disappointment for the Merak Sacred Land’s group.

It was one of the reasons why, after only a short period of recuperation, the Merak Saintess and her people threw themselves back into the task of breaking the Grand Array within the Purple Void Secret Realm.

Another reason was the speculation from those knowledgeable about such places: the Purple Void Secret Realm would not remain manifest for much longer and was due to close soon.

This meant that time was running out for the major powers.

If they failed to obtain the Secret Order, they would have to wait for the next time the Purple Void Secret Realm opened to try and find another chance at Refining it.

As for when or where that would be, no one knew.

These Secret Realms lay hidden within the void. When they re-emerged, it would never be in the same place, but always in a new location.

So, the next time it appeared, it would likely not be near the Great Zhou and Celestial Wind Imperial Dynasties. This was one of the reasons the major powers established Affiliated Forces within various dynasties—to have a legitimate reason to participate in the contest for Secret Realms.

Its current location was unique, allowing all major powers to participate. But if it appeared next to the territory of one specific power next time, it wouldn’t be so convenient for the others.

Besides, when an opportunity presents itself, you seize it. You don’t hope for a second chance.

"Pharmacist Yang, it’s a good thing you didn’t go. That terrifying draconic might was far too suppressive for those with weaker Cultivation."

"Some External Cultivation Disciples were killed by the roar alone."

"And keep in mind, that was just a Flood Dragon, not a True Dragon. A real member of the Dragon Race..."

Gu An had become much more talkative, clearly still under the influence of the encounter with the Ink Jade Flood Dragon!
