Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything
Chapter 568: Star Cross, Capturing a Dragon Single-Handedly
Within Demon Suppression Pass, all sorts of messages flew back and forth.
If the lights from these messages were made tangible, they would weave a terrifyingly dense net over the entirety of Demon Suppression Pass!
The soldiers of the West Wind Army’s ten camps were, after all, bound by military orders. They couldn’t move about freely while on night duty, so they could only watch the developing situation through these various messages.
However, the Demon Hunters of the Wind Fury Camp were a different story. They held no military rank. Although access restrictions prevented them from going to certain places, the city’s main roads and gates were open to them, as they often had to leave the city to hunt Demons!
The cries of “Xing Lan, come and fight!” stirred the Demon Hunters’ hearts to a boil. Some, even in the middle of their Cultivation, forcefully stopped and rushed out of their Cultivation Rooms.
And that’s not to mention those who were merely resting in their beds for the night—
That night, countless people tumbled out of their beds and dashed out of their rooms.
“A battle of Celestial Prides! Ao Feng of the Dragon Race is here! He’s at the South City Gate! Quick, find a Puppet Carriage, I need to get to the South City Gate!”
“I have a Five-star speed Puppet Carriage with eight empty seats! Two hundred Battle Merits per seat! If you want a ride, bring your Battle Merits and hurry!”
“Two hundred Battle Merits for a ride? Why don’t you just go rob someone?”
“Take it or leave it… Hey, this fellow Daoist, please take a seat! Come, come, friend, right this way!”
“Senior Brother, your Silver-Scaled Horse is fast! Give me a lift!”
“Damn it, why is flying forbidden in this city?”
…
Young Master Duobao of the Ling Martial Sect, Wei Chi, was also among this crowd of Demon Hunters. His mode of transport wasn’t a Puppet Carriage, but a Treasure Ship that could both fly and travel on land!
Since flying was forbidden in the city, he piloted the Treasure Ship to pick up a few teammates. Then, with a flicker of its Array, four wheels emerged from the bottom of the Treasure Ship, and it prepared to speed forward.
But just then, a figure in a blue Magical Robe zipped into the Treasure Ship with a SWOOSH. Wei Chi turned back, shocked and enraged. “Chen Ming! Who gave you permission to board my Treasure Ship? Get off! No, wait… The Treasure Ship has a protective barrier. How did you get on?”
Chen Ming wasn’t being his usual nasty self this time. Instead, he smiled politely. “Young Master Wei, you have your treasures, and I have mine. That’s not so strange, is it? Huh… Xing Lan Fairy! Is that figure up ahead Xing Lan Fairy? Has Xing Lan Fairy set out to answer the challenge?”
Standing in the ship, he pointed a hand toward the sky outside the barrier.
A graceful, white-clad figure seemed to flash past in the sky.
In truth, Chen Ming had never met Xing Lan, so he couldn’t possibly have recognized her from a single, fleeting glimpse of her back.
But that didn’t stop Chen Ming from talking nonsense.
But Wei Chi, anxious, shocked, and desperate, didn’t have time to discern the truth of Chen Ming’s words and believed him outright.
He hurriedly formed a Spell with his hands, urging his Treasure Ship to race down the wide main road.
There were a few figures ahead who had set out earlier, rushing toward the South City Gate using various techniques. But once Wei Chi’s Treasure Ship went full throttle, its sheer speed allowed it to instantly overtake everyone in front.
The wind howled, whipping past the sides of the protective barrier as all the exquisite architecture of Demon Suppression Pass was left in the Treasure Ship’s wake.
Wei Chi’s heart was about to leap out of his throat. Of everyone present, he was more worried about Xing Lan Fairy than anyone. He needed to invite her to the Ancient Divine Palace to save Du Xingheng!
‘What if something happens to Xing Lan Fairy in this battle?’ he worried. ‘What will I do then?’
The Treasure Ship sped on for another moment. Finally, just as Wei Chi’s True Qi was about to be completely exhausted, to the point where even Spirit Pills couldn’t replenish it fast enough, the South City Gate came into view!
Wei Chi leaped from the Treasure Ship and immediately charged for the rampart walkway.
However, he wasn’t a soldier of the West Wind Army and had no military authorization, so he was barred from ascending the wall.
Just as he was stopped at the edge of the walkway, unable to get up, he saw a colossal dragon soar high above the walls. It coiled amid the mist and clouds, slithering through the layered clouds of the night sky.
Fortunately, the dragon flew high enough that even though Wei Chi and the others couldn’t get on the wall or fly up, they could still see the scene in the sky just by tilting their heads back, despite the wall’s height partially obstructing their view.
Against the dark night sky, the great dragon coiled among the clouds. Opposite it, a graceful, white-clad figure hovered in the air.
The corners of her snow-white robes whipped and fluttered in the wind. To the crowd looking up from below, the figure was actually somewhat indistinct.
She was blurry and minuscule, yet she exuded a strange, heart-palpitating aura that caused all who witnessed the scene to tremble inexplicably.
From behind, more and more people arrived.
Even those who couldn’t make it all the way to the city gate could look up at the horizon from afar and just make out the scene of the human facing off against the dragon.
Wei Chi’s voice trembled. “Xing Lan Fairy! That’s Xing Lan Fairy. She’s here, she really came to fight…”
He clutched the heart that had leaped into his throat, wishing he could be the one to charge up and drive that dragon a thousand miles away.
But he couldn’t. He wasn’t strong enough.
He couldn’t help but swallow and ask, “Have they… have they started fighting?”
He was asking the sect brothers who were holding him up.
His sect brothers were also looking up, and they replied nervously, “N-Not yet. We don’t know why not.”
Soon, they found out why.
The great dragon in the sky was the first to announce his name. “Xing Lan, I am Ao Feng of the Dragon Race. In tonight’s battle of Celestial Prides, a victor will be decided, but life and death are not a concern! Regardless of the outcome, there will be no grudges. Can you agree to these terms?”
Opposite the dragon, the white-clad figure hovering in the air replied in a placid tone with a single word: “Agreed.”
Ao Feng spoke again, “Let all living souls bear witness. This battle begins now.”
The white-clad figure said, “Fine.”
The moment her voice fell, the dragon opposite her threw back its head and let out a deafening roar that filled the sky.
VMMMMMM—
The sound of the dragon’s roar shook space itself. Under the black sky, the layered clouds roiled like waves, thunder rumbled, and the entire sky seemed as if it were about to collapse!
Dragons are deities of Cloud Formation and Rainfall.
A Cyan Dragon, moreover, commands both the flourishing of all living things and the wind and thunder of the heavens.
Faced with such a terrifying Attack, the spectators below couldn’t help but feel their hearts pound in their chests, even though they were a great distance away and knew Demon Suppression Pass was firmly protected by the Heaven and Earth Net Protection Array.
Some even couldn’t resist taking a few steps back.
It was an involuntary, instinctual retreat.
Wei Chi clutched his throat, muttering, “What is she going to do? What is she going to do…”
Before the words were even out of his mouth, the white-clad figure in the sky raised a hand.
She stood amidst a terrifying storm of immense thunder and collapsing space, yet she simply raised a hand as if it were nothing.
Then, she was heard to softly utter two words: “Star Cross!”
Suddenly, the dark canopy of the sky was torn asunder, as if it were a fragile gauze curtain.
Immediately after, countless sharp points of starlight poured through from behind the tear, crisscrossing as they fell like a chilling rain of swords.
