Chapter 180: Chapter 156: Spirit Seed

Fearing a misunderstanding, Wu Yong quickly stood up and said, "Senior Brother, when Yaoyao and I left, the girls hadn’t woken up yet."

"We let them sleep in a little this morning because they were up late reciting and copying the Cultivation Technique," Dong Yao added.

Li Changsheng nodded slightly. "That’s good to hear." He then asked, puzzled, "So, what did you come to see me for?"

Dong Yao and Wu Yong exchanged a look, then bowed and said, "We came to thank you, Senior Brother."

"?"

A look of confusion crossed Li Changsheng’s face.

Just then,

Wu Yong took a lustrous white jade box from within his robes. He offered it with both hands and said gratefully, "I stumbled upon this in the mountains some time ago. I don’t know what it is, but the Spiritual Qi it contains is extraordinary. Please, Senior Brother, you must accept it."

"There’s no need for this, Junior Brother." Li Changsheng didn’t take the jade box. He frowned in thought for a moment, then an idea suddenly struck him. "Is this about the Spirit Fields?" he asked.

Dong Yao’s eyes filled with joy. She nodded lightly and said, "Steward Ma came to see us yesterday. He said you were the one who spoke up for us, which is why we were compensated with three acres of Mid-grade Spirit Fields. He told us to be sure to thank you properly."

"So please, Senior Brother, don’t refuse it."

After speaking, she took the jade box, placed it on Li Changsheng’s desk, gave a slight bow, and returned to Wu Yong’s side.

’Senior Brother Ma...’

Li Changsheng smiled and shook his head. He gestured for them to sit. "Please, have a seat."

After they sat down and chatted for a while,

Li Changsheng asked about their future plans.

The couple didn’t hide anything. They planned to become full-time Spirit Farmers and cultivate their Spirit Fields. They even said that once Qing Lan and Qing Yue were a bit older and had entered the sect, they would have a child of their own.

Li Changsheng was stunned to hear this.

’One of you isn’t even twenty, and the other is in the prime of his life. You’re already planning to have a child? What about cultivation?’

Of course, he only thought this to himself and certainly wouldn’t say it out loud. Instead, he offered them his congratulations.

Xu Li didn’t just sit idly by; he would chime in with a word or two, making for a lively atmosphere.

After chatting for over an hour,

Xu Li, Dong Yao, and Wu Yong stood up to take their leave.

Li Changsheng made a few polite attempts to have them stay longer, then walked them to the main gate before turning and heading into the kitchen.

After feeding his Spirit Beasts,

Li Changsheng returned to his room, took out the jade slip Xu Li had given him, and began to inspect it.

「A moment later.」

’Two more months...’

Li Changsheng shook his head and put away the jade slip. His gaze fell upon the jade box on the desk, and he opened it curiously.

As he lifted the lid,

he saw a longan-sized jade sphere. It was entirely crimson and flecked with tiny golden spots.

"Oh?"

The moment Li Changsheng picked it up, his expression filled with surprised uncertainty.

The sphere not only contained dense Spiritual Qi, but deep within, it also held a faint trace of life force.

’This isn’t jade at all. It’s clearly a Spirit Seed.’

A look of pleasant surprise appeared in Li Changsheng’s eyes, and he immediately focused on sensing it more carefully.

After a moment, he frowned slightly.

The life force within the Spirit Seed was incredibly faint, on the verge of dissipating completely. If it did, the seed would become nothing more than a Spirit Jade infused with Spiritual Qi.

Li Changsheng thought for a moment. The Three-leaf Mark between his brows flickered, and a wisp of jade-green life force flowed from his palm.

Fearing that too much life force would overwhelm and destroy the seed’s meager vitality, he carefully separated a tiny amount and infused it into the seed.

As the life force was gradually absorbed, the seed’s originally weak vitality grew imperceptibly stronger.

Delighted by this, Li Changsheng continued to infuse wisps of life force into it.

In the blink of an eye, two hours had passed.

Just then.

CLINK...

A crisp sound echoed through the room.

Li Changsheng’s expression shifted. The life force flowing from his palm dissipated as he looked up toward the door.

WHOOSH...

A black shadow shot inside and landed on the tea table.

HISS...

Xiaohai reared up, baring its ferocious fangs with a hiss. The roots on its back tossed a storage bag onto the table, and a wave of agitation flooded Li Changsheng’s mind.

’It’s getting more and more ferocious...’

Frowning, Li Changsheng focused his gaze on Xiaohai, sensing the chilling aura it radiated.

[Target: Xiaohai / Senluo Flower]

[Race: Mutated Black Blood Moth / Senluo Flower Demon]

[Mid-Demon Realm: 16%]

[Innate Magic: Food Spirit / Senluo]

[Status: Healthy, Symbiotic]

’It’s advancing too quickly...’ Li Changsheng frowned.

At this rate, Xiaohai would break through to the Late-Demon Realm in just a few months.

This seemed like a good thing, but he hadn’t forgotten one crucial detail.

A Spirit Contract Binder risks losing control of a spirit insect at the Late-Demon Realm, and this risk was even greater with the strange Senluo Flower Demon residing inside Xiaohai.

’If I lose control...’

Sensing the impatient emotions flooding his mind from Xiaohai,

Li Changsheng fell silent for a moment. He mentally instructed it to return once every three days, then let it depart.

As he watched it disappear,

Li Changsheng put the Spirit Seed back into the jade box. He then picked up the storage bag from the desk and inspected its contents. Inside were fewer than one thousand Spirit Stones, two Lower-Grade Magic Robes, a Top-grade Talisman Sword, and nothing else.

’A Nascent Soul Cultivator, and this is all he had to his name?’

Li Changsheng shook his head and put the storage bag away, somewhat disappointed.

He had completely forgotten about the storage bag that had been hanging on his main gate just half a month prior.

After resting for a moment, Li Changsheng walked to his courtyard gate.

He swung himself onto Xiaohua’s back and urged it toward the Spirit Fields.

Arriving at the edge of the Spirit Field,

Li Changsheng looked down.

More than half a month had passed. The Concentration Flowers had grown another inch or so. They glowed like jade, wreathed in fine wisps of Spiritual Mist—a delightful sight.

Li Changsheng smiled and sent out a mental command.

HMMMM...

The swarm of insects circling overhead suddenly plunged into the Spirit Field. After a while, several serpent beasts were dragged out by the swarm and devoured completely.

Once the serpent beasts were cleared out, Li Changsheng stepped into the Spirit Field, walked over to the Spiritual Vortex, and placed his hand upon it.

The Three-leaf Mark between his brows flickered. A jade-green light glowed in his palm as wisps of life force poured into the Spiritual Vortex, which then distributed the energy among each of the Concentration Flowers.

「An hour later.」

Li Changsheng swung himself back onto Xiaohua’s back and urged it toward the Mid-grade Spirit Fields.

Just as before,

The swarm descended into the Spirit Field. In a short time, several serpent beasts were dragged out and devoured.

Time passed, and most of the swarm flew back out of the Spirit Field.

Just as he was about to enter the Spirit Field, he saw the swarm drag out a thumb-sized insect. It was yellow and green, resembling a common locust from the Mortal World.

This was the first time he had ever seen an insect in his Spirit Fields.

’Is it because too many of the serpent beasts from Ten Thousand Serpent Lake have been killed...’

Li Changsheng didn’t pay it much mind. It was just a bug tainted with a bit of Spiritual Qi. He stepped into the Spirit Field.

After infusing the field with life force, Li Changsheng stood up and walked toward the High-grade Spirit Field not far away.

Arriving at the edge of the field,

Li Changsheng looked at the Spiritual Mist blanketing the area and sent out another mental command.

The swarm poured in. However, in addition to catching more than a dozen serpent beasts, they also found several more insects in the Spirit Field. Three were locusts, and the Spiritual Qi in one of them was so dense it was on the verge of becoming a spiritual creature itself.

’Locusts...’

Li Changsheng’s brow furrowed. Whether in his past life or his current one, locusts were never a good sign.

’And now they had appeared in his Spirit Fields...’
