Chapter 124- The legacy of the Death Sovereign.
Chapter 124: Chapter 124- The legacy of the Death Sovereign.
The Undead Legacy...
The guardian watched Leo straighten from his bow, her expression impossible to read beneath the dark purple light threading through the chamber around her. A thin, semi-transparent veil of shadow still masked most of her face, leaving only her eyes visible — though one could just barely tell, from the shape of them, that she was smiling faintly.
She said nothing for a long moment, letting the silence stretch until it grew genuinely uncomfortable for Leo.
Finally, the guardian spoke. "What you received was only knowledge. Not my master’s inheritance itself."
"What I passed on to you was simply an understanding of my Sovereign’s path. Wherever that understanding leads you from here is entirely your own fortune to shape. It has nothing to do with me."
Leo’s back straightened involuntarily. The guardian regarded him with a small nod. "But the Death Sovereign did leave something else behind as well."
As she spoke, her purple eyes flared with light, and dense death mana began pouring off her, spreading rapidly to fill the entire chamber.
A sharp sense of danger washed over everyone present, the sudden weight bearing down on their shoulders climbing so quickly it became difficult to even remain standing upright.
The group instinctively took a step back. Leo’s own expression hardened in response.
Rook’s hand had already found his sword hilt, ready to strike or defend at a moment’s notice. Shen’s attention, meanwhile, had drifted to the formations lighting up one by one across the room, and within the mana well itself.
Elly noticed it too. "Master, the formations are shifting again."
The dark purple markings carved into the chamber walls pulsed in a slow, steady rhythm, almost like a heartbeat, radiating outward from the mana well at its center.
All the scattered formations gradually connected themselves through fine, vein-like structures woven through the walls, each one lighting up in sequence until every last one linked directly back to the mana well.
The entire chamber shuddered violently, as though something enormous were stirring awake beneath them.
[Ding~]
[Death Sovereign’s Undead Legacy — Awakened.]
The words hung suspended above the mana well. Everyone stared at them in stunned silence.
[Ding~]
[The complete Undead Legacy, together with its Origin, has awakened.]
"The complete path?" Leo asked, turning to the guardian, who had by now settled back into her earlier, calmer form, no longer radiating the dangerous pressure from moments before.
She nodded. "Yes. The complete path. My Sovereign never walked a single, narrow road — she wielded the essence of death itself, in its entirety. And this legacy carries more than just her own inheritance. It also carries the legacies of her subordinates, each of whom became legends in their own right."
She waved a hand, and the system panel hovering above the mana well shifted to display something new.
[Undead.]
[Soul.]
[Spirit.]
[Death Mana.]
[Necromancy.]
[Undead Creation.]
[Undead Manipulation.]
[Preservation.]
[Evolution.]
[Spiritual Existence.]
"These," she said, "are the fundamental branches contained within undead affinity — a path she traveled further than anyone before or since."
Leo studied the list closely. He’d never realized there could be so many distinct specializations tucked inside the undead class alone. The scope of it was far broader than anything he’d anticipated.
Just as he’d already begun to grasp, the undead legacy clearly meant something far more expansive than the narrow idea of necromancy most people carried in their heads.
Elly scanned through all of the data as well, cataloguing it in real time.
The spirit guardian expanded the panel further. "The undead legacy contains multiple major branches, each shaped by the practitioner’s individual compatibility."
The display shifted again.
[Major Undead Paths Detected.]
[Undead Warrior.]
[Undead Mage.]
[Undead Archer.]
[Undead Assassin.]
[Undead Knight.]
[Undead Monk.]
[Undead Berserker.]
"These represent the physical undead affinity classes."
Rook and Hugh exchanged a strange look, both of them clearly picturing themselves transforming into walking skeletons the moment they changed class.
The spirit guardian, apparently was able to guess exactly what they were imagining, so she quickly added, "Just because the word ’undead’ appears in the name doesn’t mean you’ll actually become one yourselves. You’ll simply be able to wield undead-aligned power as a warrior would wield any other kind."
"These, are the most common combat-oriented classes. There’s still more beyond them." She waved her hand again, and the panel shifted once more.
[Necromancer.]
[Spirit Caller.]
[Soul Reaper.]
[Grave Keeper.]
[Soul Binder.]
[Spirit Warden.]
[Undead Commander.]
"So do we actually get to choose which class we want?" Rook asked.
The guardian shook her head. "Not exactly. You’ll only be shown the classes you’re genuinely compatible with as options. If you happen to be compatible with more than one, then yes, you’ll be given a choice between them. But the legacy adapts to each individual differently. Even if two people end up with the exact same class, meaningful differences will still exist between them."
Rook and Hugh both stared at her, clearly still confused.
She sighed and explained further. "Someone who already carries a warrior class might resonate naturally with the Undead Warrior path. Someone with a mage class background might resonate instead with Undead Mage. It varies — genuinely anything is possible depending on the person."
She glanced around at the rest of the group before continuing. "But those are only the general possibilities. Specialized paths also exist entirely independent of prior class. Someone with extraordinary affinity and compatibility toward necromancy specifically could become a full Necromancer. Someone with exceptional spiritual sensitivity might become a Spirit Caller instead..."
Among everyone present, Yuna was the only one who had already undergone a class change, into the lightning-based Rare-rank class Storm Forge Blade. She wasn’t expecting to gain anything further from this particular legacy, though she found herself curious regardless. Still, she doubted she carried any real undead affinity of her own.
"So the legacy doesn’t dictate what someone becomes," Elona said from a short distance away, piecing it together aloud. "It uncovers what’s already present within them."
The spirit guardian spoke again. "Undead isn’t a single road. It’s a forest." Purple light pulsed once more through the chamber as she said it.
"Some walk among the dead. Some command the dead outright. Some come to understand the spirit that lingers after death. Some dedicate themselves to preserving the souls of the dead. Some strengthen the bodies the dead leave behind. And some pursue nothing less than understanding the very meaning of death itself."
She paused, taking a moment to study everyone’s reactions.
"And this — this is what she left behind."
[Undead Legacy — Hierarchy]
[Tier 1: Rare]
[Rare Undead Paths — No Position Limit.]
[Basic compatibility required.]
[Examples: Undead Warrior, Undead Mage, Undead Archer, Undead Assassin, Undead Knight, Necromancer, Spirit Caller, Grave Keeper.]
Everyone stared at the panel. Just as Elona had already predicted, Rare-rank class changes carried no position limit within this facility either.
Another panel appeared right beside it.
[Tier 2: Epic]
[Epic Undead Paths — 25 Positions.]
[Advanced compatibility required.]
[Examples: High Necromancer, Soul Reaper, Spirit Warden, Undead Commander, Soul Binder, and others.]
Rook and his disciples muttered nearly in unison. "Holy hell — twenty-five Epic-rank classes, just sitting here available?"
Then another panel materialized.
[Tier 3: Legendary]
[Legendary Undead Paths — 5 Positions.]
[Extraordinary compatibility and mastery required.]
[Potential Paths:]
[Undead Sovereign.]
[Eternal Necromancer.]
[Soul Monarch.]
Even Leo found himself momentarily stunned. "Five Legendary-rank classes available? That’s... insane."
Elona pressed a hand over her mouth, releasing a sharp gasp of pure surprise. She could already feel the guild’s future becoming essentially unstoppable — more members would flood in the moment word of this spread. She’d already started mentally sketching out defensive measures against potential spies and traitors trying to infiltrate them.
The guardian waved a hand, and every panel vanished at once.
"And this final tier is the last inheritance she left behind — reserved specifically for her successor. She spent her entire life searching across the world for someone worthy, and never once found them while she was alive. Frankly, I doubt anyone in this current era could possibly meet the requirements to claim it. But take a look regardless."
[Tier 4: Mythic]
[Mythic Undead Legacy — 1 Position.]
[Mythic Undead Legacy — Complete Inheritance.]
[Complete understanding of the Undead Sovereign’s Legacy.]
[Complete Legacy authority.]
[Complete access to the Undead Path.]
[Requirement: Complete compatibility with the Legacy’s highest inheritance.]
[Current Successor — None.]
Everyone in the chamber drew a cold breath at the sight of the inheritance. Leo already understood this particular tier wasn’t meant for him — but he felt a quiet satisfaction regardless, simply knowing it now belonged to his guild all the same.
Every eye in the room practically shone with excitement. Rook’s disciples could barely contain themselves, itching to try their luck at claiming an Epic or Legendary class of their own.
Their enthusiasm, however, was quickly dampened by the guardian’s next words.
"Oh — right, I nearly forgot to mention. Everyone should understand that a certain baseline level of affinity and capability is required before you can even attempt to acquire these classes."
"And even assuming you do carry that affinity, only the Rare-rank classes — along with the successor position for the Mythic-rank legacy — are exempt from any trial requirement."
"For anything at the Epic or Legendary tier, anyone meeting the base criteria will still need to complete a proper trial first."
Rook’s disciples looked as though someone had just dumped a bucket of ice water directly over their heads.
Rook couldn’t help but let out a low grunt at the sight of their collective disappointment.
The undead Inheritance was a bit different from the lightning inheritance. There was no specific number of position available mentioned on lightning inheritance and the lightning general was also looking for successor but the main idea behind his inheritance was for the path of lightning to be unveiled to the world, but the death sovereign inheritance felt more focused on the successor. That was what Leo felt like.
"Now that you all understand what the legacy has waiting in store for you..."The guardian raised both her hands into the air, and dense death mana began spreading through the chamber once more.
The chamber shuddered again under another tremor, and the dark purple light surrounding the mana well began withdrawing steadily, gathering itself toward the very center of the room.
