Eternal Emperor's Path to Ascension

Chapter 458: Suppressing Demons, Suppressing Immortals

  • Next Chapter

At this moment, in the Second Great Mortal World of the Lower Realm.

The heavens seemed to have fallen.

The once magnificent Mortal World had been devastated beyond recognition, with countless corpses scattered across the earth and the heavens. Rivers had dried up, mountains had collapsed, and entire regions had been reduced to nothing but barren wastelands.

The blood of countless beings stained the shattered earth red.

The remnants of countless Divine Powers still lingered in the surroundings, but even those terrifying fluctuations were gradually fading, leaving behind only an oppressive silence.

The Lower Realm had lost, utterly and completely.

Of the countless cultivators who had risen to resist the Cleansing, those who had not perished had already lost the ability to continue fighting.

The remaining army of the Upper Realm had gathered behind the Lightning Tribulation Divine Deity, their expressions ranging from indifference to barely concealed excitement.

For these young prodigies, the Cleansing was originally nothing more than a trial, an opportunity to accumulate battle achievements and establish their reputations.

They had never imagined that the beings of the Lower Realm would actually force them to fight so desperately.

Yet, regardless of how fiercely the Lower Realm had resisted, the outcome remained unchanged.

The difference in strength was simply too great.

Countless gazes filled with fear and despair were directed towards the figures standing high above the battlefield.

Beneath the Lightning Tribulation Divine Deity, three figures were suspended in the air, but the pressure radiating from them sunk the earth across hundreds of thousands of miles.

They were none other than Zhu Dong, Su Yanlan, and Tian Yun.

The three extraordinary beings who once stood among the strongest cultivators of the Lower Realm were now suppressed beneath an invisible pressure.

It was as if a divine mountain had been placed upon their backs, preventing them from moving even slightly.

Zhu Dong’s face was pale, and blood trickled from the corners of his mouth.

Su Yanlan’s blood sea had become exceedingly faint, the killing intent that once threatened to engulf the heavens reduced to a barely perceptible remnant.

Even Tian Yun, whose former life had reached an unimaginable height, could only endure the pressure in silence.

Their previous lives, their profound attainments in the Dao, and the countless techniques they had accumulated throughout their cultivation journeys were all rendered useless by the restrictions imposed upon them.

They could not unleash their former strength, they could not escape, and they could not protect the people who were still fighting below.

These three supreme powerhouses found themselves completely powerless in the current situation.

However, among the countless gazes fixed upon the heavens, there was one battlefield that had not yet fallen silent.

A streak of sword light flashed across the sky.

It was neither particularly brilliant nor overwhelmingly powerful, but it possessed an extraordinary sharpness that seemed capable of cutting through the very fabric of existence.

The sword light passed through the chest of an Upper Realm Perfect Half Immortal as blood sprayed across the sky.

The wound was immediately surrounded by profound Sword Qi, preventing the flesh and blood from regenerating as they ordinarily would.

Yet, the injured cultivator merely lowered his head and glanced at the wound before raising his gaze towards the old man standing before him.

There was no fear in his eyes, only endless contempt.

"An old man burning his life to achieve such a result?"

He sneered.

"Is this all the strength the Lower Realm has to offer?"

The old man did not respond, instead raising his sword once again.

His robes were torn, his body covered in countless wounds, and his hair had become almost entirely pale white.

His breathing was ragged, and his aura fluctuated violently.

Every movement seemed to consume the remaining vitality within his body, and every swing of his sword brought him one step closer to death.

Yet, his sword remained extremely steady.

The Demon Suppression Great Daoist!

He had lived for more than five hundred thousand years.

When Tian Yun first entered Kunlun Divine Mountain over a hundred thousand years ago, the Demon Suppression Great Daoist was already an established Half Immortal, an ancient powerhouse whose name commanded respect throughout the Second Great Mortal World.

For generations, he had stood among the strongest beings of Kunlun Divine Mountain of the Second Great Mortal World.

He had witnessed the rise and fall of countless prodigies, watched entire sects flourish and perish, and seen the Mortal World change beyond recognition.

But now, the Cleansing had arrived, and the Lower Realm was being slaughtered.

The Demon Suppression Great Daoist’s sword trembled slightly.

He could feel his life essence rapidly draining away.

His lifespan, which originally had more than five hundred thousand years left, was being consumed at an astonishing rate.

His Nascent Soul was growing dim, and his Spiritual Energy was nearing exhaustion.

Even the principles of the Dao he had spent hundreds of thousands of years comprehending were beginning to crumble beneath the burden of his desperate struggle.

But he knew that he could not stop.

Behind him stood the remnants of the Lower Realm’s resistance, and beyond them were countless mortals and cultivators who never possessed the strength to participate in this battle, yet whose lives depended entirely upon the outcome.

If he fell, who would protect them?

Who would stand against the Upper Realm?

Who would buy even a few more moments for those still attempting to survive?

The Demon Suppression Great Daoist slowly raised his sword.

His movements had become sluggish, and his once formidable aura was now little more than a flickering flame, like a candle in the wind.

Yet, as he looked towards the Perfect Half Immortal before him, his eyes remained extremely clear.

"Again."

The Upper Realm cultivator stared at him for a moment before bursting into laughter.

"Again?"

He raised his hand, and an overwhelming wave of Spiritual Energy gathered around his palm.

"You have already exhausted your life essence. Your Nascent Soul is on the verge of collapse, and your Dao is crumbling. What exactly do you think you can accomplish by continuing?"

The Demon Suppression Great Daoist remained silent.

Indeed, the opponent was right.

Perhaps, after he died, the Upper Realm army would simply advance and slaughter everyone who remained.

He had lived long enough to understand how cruel the world could be.

But understanding the inevitability of defeat did not mean he had to surrender.

At the very least, while he was alive, he could still raise his sword, and as long as he could raise his sword, he would continue fighting.

After all, he was titled the Demon Suppression Great Daoist.

If he could suppress Demons, then he could also suppress Immortals!
