"Dao of Roots?"

Helen made a curious face when she heard the name of the Dao that was starting to gather in the sky, ready to come down. "There is a Dao about just the roots of a tree?"

"It’s the essence of roots more than just about the roots," Alex explained. "It’s about stability. About the foundation you will need to remain standing while flourishing."

"Ah!" Helen finally understood, and so did Scarlet.

Liz walked in around the same time, sitting down inside the hall. "Who is this?" she asked. "Feels like someone from our place."

"It’s Alex," Helen said almost immediately.

"I see."

Alex looked toward the sky, sensing the aura up there that was gathering into an invisible vortex. The Worldly Laws were gathering directly above them. And with such closeness, he almost felt like they were coming down for him.

Alex looked into the aura for some time before something struck him as odd.

How come he knew so much about the Dao of Roots?

He had never actively tried to learn it, after all, and Wood roots themselves weren’t something he knew a lot about. So, the fact that he knew quite a bit about the Dao of Roots surprised him.

The only explanation he had for this was that he did know a lot but had simply never given the Dao a chance. Now that it was here, there was perhaps no point in holding back.

Alex quickly crossed his legs and closed his eyes. Everyone in the room noticed it immediately, but they said nothing. Learning anything from someone else’s Worldly Laws was practically impossible, but there was no danger in letting Alex try it.

It was not as though this were tribulation lightning and he was interfering.

Alex had a similar thought as well. He merely tried to learn the Dao because he already knew part of it. And even that part alone would be difficult, given that he didn’t have direct access to the Worldly Laws the way the person calling for them did.

But surprisingly, they weren’t as obscured as he had expected.

He could see a lot more into the Worldly Laws than he had previously thought possible. In fact, he was beginning to actually learn about the Dao of Roots.

As seconds passed, Alex felt something forming directly inside his mind.

Information.

Information he had not known before, all regarding the Dao of Roots, came to him in a way that just wasn’t normal. It was as though the Worldly Laws were trying to teach him the Dao instead of him having to search for it.

Alex wasn’t sure why that was, but he was more than happy to accept it. He put on a serious look and focused far more on the Dao.

As he did so, more information came into his mind, piling within him at a rate that far surpassed anything he had managed to achieve without consuming a pill. The information entered his mind so quickly that he failed to comprehend a portion of it immediately.

Alex’s face fell into a frown as he quickly attempted to do something about it. Time slowed down around him, moving things at a slower pace and allowing him to understand that which he had initially failed to comprehend.

With time slowed, he went through the information that flowed into his mind. It was the Dao of Roots, or rather the understanding of it.

And it was not his understanding.

As Alex looked more and more into the understanding, he realized whose it was.

It was Alex’s.

His clone’s.

’How am I getting what he is—’

Something came to him just then. A memory from long ago when he had sat next to the grave of his master, both of them focused on the same thing.

Both holding the same Intent.

Soul Resonance, Alex realized. Our souls are connecting again.

Everything the older Alex had learned about the Dao of Roots had come through their temporary bond, filling Alex with information he never had.

He was learning a Dao without having to learn the Dao himself.

’It’s not just one way, is it?’ Alex thought.

The moment he thought so, he decided what he was going to do next.

His heart and mind grew a lot calmer at that moment, his face returning to neutral. Then, he put all of his focus into trying to learn the Dao of Roots actively this time instead of relying on the older him.

The information flowing into him had either weakened at this point and he was gaining nothing, or he had already gained everything he could from the older Alex.

Whatever the case, Alex could tell one thing.

The Soul Resonance was beginning to fail as his mind was constantly working on something else.

"Aunt, help me. Slow me down."

Liz had been watching what Alex was doing all this time with a surprised look on her face, so the moment he asked for assistance, she was ready to give it.

She ran over to Alex and instantly slowed time for him, letting him return all of his Intent to learning the Dao.

The moment Alex was free, he now had a sole goal in mind, and that reforged the Soul Resonance, allowing him to gain more of the understanding that his clone had.

Because the older Alex was cultivating on a platform with 20 times the speed, Alex had needed to remain close to that speed so as to not overwhelm himself with information and also resonate with the other him at a similar speed.

As soon as Alex was given that freedom, he poured all his heart and soul into learning the Dao.

And while he hadn’t eaten any pills, Alex’s frighteningly strong comprehension skills made things considerably easier.

Anything the older Alex couldn’t understand immediately, Alex could, and that understanding would then feed back into the older Alex.

Within minutes, the Worldly Laws that had barely begun to gather were now ready to come down from heaven.
