Chapter 3390: Liars
Chapter 3390: Liars
“You lied to us, Patriarch,” Caoyang said. “You let 30 of our young White Tigers die, and then protected that Azure Dragon bastard. And to continue protecting him and your own status as the Patriarch, you have now begun lying about the return of the Sun God.”
Caoyang looked around, trying to see if anyone would stand up against him. Seeing as no one dared speak in that moment, he continued.
“You cannot move away from consequences by simply claiming the Sun God has returned. Did you really think we would not have asked for proof?”
Lying about the Sun God was a trivial matter in that moment compared to the death of 30 junior White Tigers. To let such a massive number of deaths just go by, even those that weren’t in the group of the Purists weren’t sure they could trust the Patriarch anymore.
Bai Jingshen stepped forward. “Say that one more time. I dare you.”
A strange aura permeated the place as Bai Jingshen stepped forward, causing many to move back out of sheer instinct. Remembering the past, even Caoyang found himself cowering away.
However, with two Celestials by his side, he had no need to be afraid of Bai Jingshen, regardless of the strange strength he possessed.
“Be respectful of your elders, Bai Jingshen, lest you get punished for it.”
“And who will punish me? You?” Bai Jingshen asked.
Caoyang was about to speak again when Yueming stepped forward. A strange glint filled her eyes as well as a subtle smile.
“Step back, Caoyang. This one isn’t so simple,” she said.
“Senior?” Caoyang was confused.
Yueming ignored the tiger, turning toward Bai Jingshen. “What’s your name, child?” she asked.
“Bai Jingshen,” he answered.
“Bai… Jingshen? Strange. I do not remember anyone by your name.”
“I was born after you entered closed cultivation, senior,” Bai Jingshen said.
That caused the White Tiger’s eyes to widen by quite a bit. “You’re less than 30 thousand years old, and yet… you have already learned an Axiom. Incredible.”
The female Celestial’s words caused a few of the tigers’ eyes to go wide almost immediately. The rest of them, however, had no idea what she was talking about. No one really knew the importance of an Axiom after all.
Alex turned toward Bai Jingshen in surprise. He had an Axiom? How come he didn’t know that?
Bai Jingshen had never even let an inkling of that fact slip out in any of the hundreds of conversations they had. Alex could only wonder what his Axiom was.
Yueming ignored Bai Jingshen almost immediately, however, turning back toward the Patriarch.
“It is true that you have done nothing to avenge the many junior White Tigers that have died, have you?” she asked. “Not just that, more have started in the past few years, and you’ve done nothing to stop that from happening either. Is that what a Patriarch should be doing? Should the deaths of young White Tigers be forgotten so easily?” she asked.
The Patriarch growled. “The first collection of deaths came from those children trying to attack this young White Tiger. The second deaths no doubt came from these as well.”
“You know that?” Yueming asked. “And have you done something about it?”
The Patriarch paused for a moment. “I was away. I have only just returned, so I will soon get to it all.”
“Excuses,” Yueming said. “You wasted your time, and because you don’t want others to think it was a waste, you’ve brought along this human and called him the Sun God. A lie to keep your inadequacy hidden from the rest.”
She turned toward Alex. “If you are the Sun God, prove it, and leave this palace right now. A human has no right to come here.”
The Patriarch turned toward Alex as well, his eyes practically begging him to do something.
Alex didn’t know what to do. How could he tell him that it was indeed all a lie? He wasn’t a Sun God.
He should have found the time to let the Patriarch know about it long ago. Instead, he had only been perpetuating the lie by spreading it all throughout the land of the Blessed Sun.
As Alex hesitated and the Patriarch remained silent, the crowd began believing every word that came from Yueming. Slowly, sentiments started changing at a visible rate as everyone began looking at the Patriarch in a new light.
Even those that weren’t the Purists began to think of the Patriarch as incompetent. The changing sentiments were exactly what the Purists had been hoping for.
It was only then Alex realized that everything from the start had all been a setup for the Patriarch’s downfall. They had hedged all their bets on the fact that Alex wasn’t a God, all based on the fact that he didn’t make Wanzhen want to bow before him, and now they were gaining the spoils of their victory.
The Patriarch lowered his head slightly, not having anything else to say.
Alex saw the look on the Patriarch’s face and then everyone else’s. And then, after a thought, he took in a deep breath and made a decision.
“Fine,” he said out loud, catching everyone’s attention.
Wanzhen and Yueming turned toward him, and so did the others.
“Did you say something?” Caoyang asked.
“Yes. I said fine, I’ll do it,” he said.
Caoyang paused. “Do what?” he asked.
“You wanted proof, didn’t you? That I’m the Sun God,” Alex asked. “Here’s my proof.”
Time slowed around Alex as he quickly used the time to think of how he could prove it to them. Whatever he did, because of his small amount of energy, he could only do it once.
As such, he had to make it count. It couldn’t be something that they could ask him to repeat.
He looked toward the Celestials at first, but he didn’t even dare do anything to them. Not only were they strong, they were also the backbone of the family, regardless of how they were.
In which case, he could only do it to Caoyang.
Alex reached for the energy within his Dantian and used it.
As soon as he did, the energy vanished.
