Chapter 3097 In the Trial
Chapter 3097 In the Trial
Pearl felt his body grow lethargic all of a sudden, to the point where he thought he had been poisoned. He stepped back, his aura flaring. He was ready to pounce forward in a desperate attempt to fight off the White Tiger before him until his brother and grandpa could realize what was happening.
But the White Tiger’s words quickly drowned his worries.
“It’s alright. That’s what it’s meant to do,” the White Tiger said. “Your body grew weak, didn’t it?”
Pearl glared at the White Tiger while sensing the changes in his own body. After a moment, he nodded. “What is happening to me?”
“Your physical body was apparently too strong to take part in the trial, so this special artifact will make you physically weaker. Your physical strength and speed will fall back to the same level as your Qi.”
Pearl narrowed his eyes and sent his senses through his own body, slowly coming to realize that the lethargy he felt was his muscles growing forcibly relaxed from their normal state.
Now, his physical strength was equivalent to his own Qi’s strength, which meant he was likely around the Immortal Transcendent 7th realm in power.
‘Grandpa is keeping a watch on me, so this must not be an attempt at my life, Pearl thought. Understanding that much, Pearl stepped onto the teleportation formation and disappeared into the forest.
When he arrived, he was at the foot of a mountain range, the location carrying an arid climate. Giant rocks surrounded the region, with a small stream carrying fresh water down the slope.
‘Where’s brother?’ he thought, confused. He could feel the bond but not its direction. A change had occurred back outside, but he hadn’t had the time to see what had happened to it. And now, it appeared that he had no way of telling where Alex was.
Pearl quickly looked to the sky to determine where he was and what direction he was meant to be going toward.
The first thing he had to do, according to most information he had received regarding the trial, was to change his appearance. He turned into a human.
White robes surrounded his tall human build, with his blond hair shaping his handsome face. A rosesteel spear appeared in his hand, and now he was ready to move.
The flower-pin artifact was placed on his chest, and he could feel the physical suppression that came from it. Should he take it off, he would regain his strength, but that would have to be a worst-case scenario. Unless someone far stronger than him came to fight him, he would have to deal with his current strength.
He made a tight fist with his left hand and wondered how good his defense was. The physical suppression had relaxed his muscles, but surely he still contained a strong physical body when it came to taking hits.
‘We’ll find out soon,’ Pearl thought. ‘For now, I should go find someone to fight!
He wasn’t going to stay around and wait for someone to come find him. Since this was a trial to test him, he would use it to improve himself too. He hefted his pink spear and began walking.
It quickly became apparent that it wasn’t just his physical strength that was dwarfed by the badge, but also his spiritual sense. While he was given plenty of freedom there-nearly half a kilometer in all directions around him-it was far less than what he could really do.
That, however, made perfect sense. It wouldn’t be much of a trial if people were constantly using their spiritual sense to run away and hide or go attack just the weak ones.
He walked around the mountain, following the small stream for a while before he arrived at a location where the stream joined with
another stream, growing slightly bigger.
He had been close when he felt the bond within him flare up, pulsing
as alive as ever, and then closing back down.
‘What’s going on?’ he wondered, waiting for the same thing to happen again. When it didn’t, he continued.
As he turned around, a lone human figure walked out of the tall grasses on the other side of the larger stream. The figure stopped in his tracks, noticing Pearl in the distance.
Pearl narrowed his eyes, looking at the figure, and took no time to recognize that the human wasn’t a human but rather a beast.
For a beast, their greatest strength was their abilities and techniques awarded to them by their bloodlines. While it was their greatest strength, it was also their weakness as well.
The powers and abilities of a stronger beast would be a matter that was public to everyone. So when someone as a beast tried to get into a duel, there was a chance that the other party already knew almost every trick that was up their sleeve.
As a result, within the Fighting Island at least, the stronger beasts tended to take on their human form so that no one would recognize
who the other person was.
A blond-haired human could be a White Tiger, but he could also be an Ivory Snake, an Ice-furred Ape, a Golden-furred Monkey, an Amberfur Mastiff, and many other beasts.
The beast that had shown up in human form was a brown-haired young man with a sharp look on his face. He carried no weapons,
unlike Pearl.
Pearl wondered for a second if he had accidentally met someone strong for his first fight, but then remembered that just because someone had transformed into a human didn’t mean that they were a strong beast to begin with.
Weaker beasts used their human form as a bluff as much as the stronger ones did. The only way to figure out anything would be to fight the beast.
He sensed the beast’s cultivation base and found it to be a little higher than his. With no further delay, he moved toward the beast, staring
directly at him.
The beast paused for a second and revealed a nasty grin.
“You want to fight me, do you?” the beast asked from across the
stream. “Then come!”
