Chapter 2994: Grandfather

Chapter 2994: Grandfather

Alex was instantly dropped to the floor by Scarlet’s mother, and he began coughing as he slowly got himself back on his feet. Once he was up, he looked at the newly arrived male Phoenix who stood by the door.

His eyes narrowed as he remembered the fiery bird from back when his Master was breaking through on the Northern Mountains of the Black and White Continent.

“Greetings, Senior,” Alex said quickly. “I am Alex. And I am indeed the Sword God’s disciple.”

The male Phoenix gave a look of surprise. “And you are the human my granddaughter is bonded to?” he asked.

Alex grimaced, wondering what else was going to come out of this conversation. “Yes, that seems to be the case, Senior,” he said.

The Phoenix walked into the room, standing next to his daughter, giving her a stern look. “You might have killed the young man had I not been notified by little Huo,” he said. “Are you trying to hurt your own child?”

Scarlet’s mother lowered her head, either in shame or in fear. Still, her words didn’t lower along with her. “He deserved it. Are you really going to stand around doing nothing while he’s right here? He found your granddaughter right after she was reborn and formed a bond when she didn’t know better.”

The male Phoenix continued his look. “That’s not what I was told,” he said.

“That’s because she doesn’t know better,” Scarlet’s mother said. “She was still confused. She was reborn without anyone around to take care of her. All alone.”

There was a pain in her voice that only a mother could have.

As angry as Alex was with her in that moment, he couldn’t help but empathize with her emotions at some level.

Scarlet’s grandfather sighed and gestured her toward the seats. “Stay there. Let me handle this.”

Scarlet’s mother was still a ball of smoldering fire, but she did as she was told and sat on the seats while putting on a face of pure fury.

Alex took in a deep breath and turned toward the grandfather, waiting for him to speak up.

“My granddaughter has told me about how the two of you came to meet. Would you mind telling me the same?” the Phoenix asked.

Alex nodded. He told the simple truth of how they had met, which included him being bonded to Scarlet by the time they met up. There were other bits of information in his story, but he could tell the main part had already been told.

After Alex was done, the Phoenix spoke up.

“That does appear to match the story little Huo has told me,” he said. “So, I am quite curious to find out why it is that she thought she would need to bond with you. What is so special about you?”

Alex paused for a moment, wondering how much he could tell the two here. Truth was, he wasn’t sure how much he could share. Would revealing he was the Sun God here be a good thing or a bad thing?

He had wanted to wait until he went to the Sun’s Talon Realm before revealing things so openly. But, if doing so could make it easy for him to get Scarlet, then…

“I am the Sun God,” Alex said, not feeling a single hint of regret at having said that. “Or rather, I have the Sun God’s body. But I’m getting there.”

Scarlet’s grandfather’s face tightened suddenly, getting quite serious. The mother, on the other hand, gave a confused look.

“What is this boy talking about?” she asked. “Is he going mad?”

Alex hadn’t expected such a reaction from her, but then, he supposed that was a valid reaction to someone claiming to be the thing that gave birth to their bloodline.

“I am not going mad,” Alex said. “I have the Sun God’s body, and I am very close to evolving it.”

“I never said I doubted you,” Scarlet’s mother said. “I just don’t see why that is relevant to the conversation. What does your name or your body constitution have to do with anything?”

Now it was Alex’s turn to get confused. How could it not be relevant? “I’m not sure you heard me correctly. I am the Sun God.”

“Again, I don’t see the point of telling me that. Why the hell should it even matter?” she asked.

“Psst!” Bai Jingshen tried to grab Alex’s attention.

Alex turned around.

“The Phoenix don’t believe in the Sun God. So this won’t help you.”

Alex fell silent for a long few seconds before reacting to the information.

“What?!”

“I’m sorry. I should’ve mentioned it earlier, but I didn’t realize you were going to reveal this so suddenly,” Bai Jingshen continued. “The Phoenix don’t believe in the Sun God. Most don’t even know about them.”

“Again,” Scarlet’s mother cried out from behind. “What the hell is a Sun God?”

“The Sun God,” her father answered, “is the one who is said to be responsible for giving us our powers. The blessing that came for the four families is said to be from the Sun God.” Ths chapter is updated by novèlfire.net

“I’ve never heard of this,” Scarlet’s mother said.

“That’s because it’s not something everyone talks about,” Scarlet’s grandfather said. He turned toward Bai Jingshen next. “Also, it is not true.”

“You can lie to yourself and your family as much as you want, Senior, but the truth is the truth,” Bai Jingshen said.

“Yes, the truth is the truth. And the truth is that we were born of the Phoenix Mother. The one who blessed our four families was the Phoenix Mother and the Dragon Father. The gods of the humans had no hand in that.”

“The Sun God was who blessed us. We have proof,” Bai Jingshen said.

“The murals? Anyone could’ve drawn anything,” Scarlet’s grandfather said. “We have paintings of the Phoenix Mother, so by your logic, we are correct as well.”

“That is not the only…” Bai Jingshen stopped himself and sighed. “Fine, you don’t believe me? Alex, show them. Do what you did back then.”
