Chapter 2870: A Promise
Chapter 2870: A Promise
Pearl’s situation with his Wood root was a unique one that Alex hadn’t come across in any other person yet.
His Wood root was intrinsically linked to his Azure Dragon’s bloodline, and his bloodline was linked to his roots. So long as Pearl did not have a Supreme grade Wood root, he would not have an Azure Dragon’s bloodline, and so long as he did not have the bloodline, he would not have the Supreme grade Wood root.
It was a conundrum that had caused Alex to be unable to heal that aspect of his body forever. Every pill he fed, every check he did, all came back fruitless, for he couldn’t fix the permanently destroyed bloodline from his body.
Even transplanting someone else’s Wood root wouldn’t work, for the destroyed bloodline would destroy the Wood root somehow. If not that, the overwhelming might of the White Tiger’s bloodline might ruin it too.
After all this time, Alex had guessed that he was likely never going to be able to help Pearl at all with his issue. However, for the first time today, his roots had shown change.
They had improved.
“They have improved?” Alex asked again, stunned.
“Yes,” Pearl said, the tiger himself quite stunned by what he was sensing. A pathetically weak Wood Qi floated out of his body, causing Pearl to laugh in surprise. “Brother, look. Wood Qi. I actually produced a bit of Wood Qi.”
Alex wanted to pull Pearl out immediately and closely sense what changes were happening in his body, but he was nowhere close, and his senses weren’t quite accurate in his current situation.
“Quick, give some blood to Playground!” Alex said.
Pearl realized what Alex wanted and did as he suggested. Some moments later, the Playground returned with its findings.
“Young Pearl’s body has an unimaginable amount of White Tiger’s bloodline, a strong improvement belonging only to the Demons, and perhaps a smidge of the Azure Dragon’s bloodline.”
Alex’s eyes opened a little wide. “Has it changed since the last time you’ve had him checked?” he asked.
“The bloodline? I’m afraid not. Young Pearl has always had a smidge of the Azure Dragon’s bloodline.”
Pearl became dejected at those words. He was starting to have some hopes.
“Although, I must let you two know that the amount of Azure Dragon’s bloodline within young Pearl is so very low that even if it had improved in some way, I would not notice it. Considering everything else has improved, I would guess that has as well.”
It wasn’t the best thing Alex and Pearl could hear at that moment, but it wasn’t one of the worst things, certainly.
“At the very least, your Wood root is improving. If nothing else, we might find some answers as to how we can fully improve them,” Alex said. “I’ll study this fruit and see if I can discern any information. If possible, I will try and make a pill that isolates just the root-improving aspect of this fruit.”
“Can you do that, brother?” Pearl asked in surprise.
“It’s not impossible,” Alex said. “Although, I don’t doubt it is horridly difficult. Replicate the effects of a fruit from one of the three Demonic trees? I might as well go mad first.”
He chuckled to himself as he said that.
“Any help would be good help, brother,” Pearl said.
“Don’t worry. I’ll try my best,” Alex said. “Rest up. I can’t give you more fruit in the meantime, but as soon as I’m done with this bloody seal, I’ll have tons of them sent in here.”
“I’ll be waiting, brother.”
Once Alex brought his senses back out, he began planning how he was going to do what he had promised Pearl he would. He tried feeling directly into the fruit at first, even trying to see if he could use his Divine Elemental Accord technique to try and copy the energy inside of the fruit.
The very moment he tried that, Alex’s meridians burst outside of his dantian, immediately crippling him in that moment.
“Arhh!” Alex screamed, falling face-first to the ground, intense waves of pain coming up from his stomach.
The energy within the fruit had demanded so much Qi to be poured out to be used at once that his dantian had pushed out all of the Qi within it at once. Even after all this time of improving his meridians to become so robust, they had burst on him so easily.
Whisker came to him, but Alex could only focus on himself. His body needed to heal, but he couldn’t use any Qi left in his dantian since there was no way for the Qi to escape. Without the Qi, it would take some time for the meridians to heal on their own.
Thankfully, Alex had other ways.
He quickly converted his Blood aura into Qi, which was all over his body, ready to be used. As soon as it appeared, he used it to heal his meridians. Even after his meridians healed, Alex felt the pain linger around his stomach.
He slowly got back up, feeling the danger of the moment that had passed.
“Brother, what happened?” Whisker asked quickly in worry.
“It’s alright. I just ended up doing something profoundly stupid,” Alex said, looking at the fruit still clutched in his hand. He couldn’t dare try to directly replicate the fruit, at least not until he was well into the Divine realm.
He explained what he did to Whisker, who then understood why Alex had shouted the way he had. He couldn’t imagine all his meridians exploding all at once. He would rather be swiftly killed so he could be reborn in a few days again.
“Ignore me. Go back to what you were doing,” Alex said, and he too returned to what he should be doing.
He looked at the fruit again, thinking back to what he had promised Pearl. The easy method hadn’t worked, but that was just the shortcut anyway. He would do what he said he would the hard way.
So, Alex ate the fruit and started paying close attention to what exactly it was that it did to one’s body.
