Chapter 2306: Oda Nobunaga’s Endless Castle [24]
-----
"Triton..."
"Wake up, son..."
"Triton..."
"You cannot sleep right now..."
"Triton...!"
"Wake up."
"Ahhh! Father?!"
Triton’s eyes widened as he looked everywhere, trying to find someone who wasn’t there.
His eyes looked down, realizing he was in his small Dragonoid form.
No, for Triton, this wasn’t his "form"; it was his original appearance, his true self.
He was the same as Benladra, Kate, and Drakda; as a Hybrid, he was born with his Dragonoid form as his base body.
His dragon body was, in fact, his transformation instead... the opposite of pure-blooded dragons born from two other dragons like Drake, Surtr, Emerald, Amethyst, Celene, and Hydra.
That’s why he often felt like he didn’t quite fit in with the rest...
"Ugh... my head."
He groaned, grabbing his head as he felt a strong headache, and then he noticed some dark particles of miasma sticking to his hands.
"Ewww! What are these?!"
He quickly used his powers, as his Soul Aura surged, burning the miasma away.
"More miasma everywhere... this isn’t going to be easy to clean."
He stood there for a moment, but then quickly thought about what he had just dreamed.
And also, finally, he realized he was alone in this desolate castle.
"Wait, where the hell am I?! And why did I hear that voice? Is there someone else here? Hello?"
He could swear it was a gentle, fatherly voice...
It was almost as if it were his own father who was calling him.
But that was just impossible, right?
"Did I hear my dad talking to me? But that’s... maybe it was a dream, yeah."
Triton sighed. He had never met his father, but through his dreams, he had met him, or rather, he experienced what he did, and occasionally heard his voice, what he said in those memories, or even his wandering thoughts.
"I’m all alone... We were swallowed by the darkness, and now I’m here... Did we get separated? Damn it... mom, dad... everyone... I miss you..."
Triton sighed, resting on the floor while hugging his legs and crying a little.
He usually never cried in front of anybody, but now that he was alone, and he felt lonely and confused, he cried.
He cried a lot...
"Why was I even dragged into this? I shouldn’t have accepted that dumb old man’s offer..." he cried. "I want to go back home already... Haaa..."
"I can offer you what you seek, son."
"Eh?"
Triton looked behind him, but there was nothing.
"What was that? I could swear I heard that voice again! D-Dad? Are you there? Is this real?"
Triton stood up, looked around, and then he started wandering through the corridors, calling for someone.
"Is someone there? Help! Someone, please... just... anybody..."
Triton sighed, looking at the floor once more, and feeling as lonely as before.
"I am right here, son. Here."
"Dad?!"
Triton gasped, hearing his father’s voice again.
He ran towards the room where he heard him, to his left, opening it and then...
Finding him.
A tall man with a muscular and strong frame, blue skin covered with blue scales, long fins around his arms and back, alongside a long shark-like tail, and gills on his neck.
He had long blue hair, and a handsome face, with a little bit of a beard on his chin, and glowing blue eyes.
His head was decorated with large horns made of coral-shaped blue stone.
"Dad?!"
It was him.
It was indeed him!
Triton couldn’t believe it, but it was him, right here, right in front of him.
The father he saw in his dreams, the father he had always dreamed of meeting in person!
"Dad! Dad!"
He cried, running towards his father, and hugging him, crying on his stomach.
"Daaaad! Is it really you?! Dad!"
The boy continued crying. He didn’t know what was even happening, but he wanted to believe this was his dad.
That he had somehow come here to help him...
"Yes, it’s me, my dear son... Me, your father... Now, how about you forget about everything else and rest? You’ve done enough, don’t you think?"
"Eh? Ah... I... I’m tired, yeah..."
"You should rest... Don’t worry about the rest, they’ll be fine."
"Wait, what? Are you sure? But... Dad! If you’re here, why don’t we go meet them? We should rescue everyone and get back together quickly!"
"No, my son, that’s not necessary. We should stay here, you should... you should rest."
"I don’t feel that sleepy anymore, though..."
"It’s okay... Triton, you’re a child after all, you don’t have to overexert yourself, leave the job to the adults."
"To the adults...?"
Triton’s eyes widened for a moment.
Just what was happening right now?
Despite everything...
His dad was dead.
Why was he looking at his dad right now?
Something wasn’t right.
This was wrong.
His father talked weirdly too. Why did he want him to stay so badly?
His father was an heroic and wise man, always helping people and building a new future for mortals.
But this dad was lazy. He didn’t want to help, and he just wanted him to sleep here forever.
Yeah, this was wrong.
Very, very wrong.
"You’re... you’re not my dad..."
Triton stepped back, his face growing angrier with each passing second.
"Triton? What are you talking about? I’m your father...! Come here, give me a hug!"
"A hug? Ahh!"
Triton glanced at his arms, realizing they were covered with black miasma...
He quickly burned it off with his Soul Aura and glared at his "father" with angry eyes.𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"You’re not my father! What the hell are you?! And how dare you use my father’s appearance to deceive me?!"
"T-Triton? I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I am your father, Aquarius! Come on now, don’t be such a brat and just... JUST OBEY ME ALREADY!"
RUMBLE!
His father’s body suddenly grew monstrous, as half of his Dragonoid body grew muscular and aberrant, covered with blue scales and with sharp claws, trying to grab Triton.
"Shit!"
CRAAASH!
The ground beneath Triton shattered into pieces as the boy nimbly escaped with his lightweight body, flying away with wings made of his Soul.
