“What?!” everyone cried out in disbelief.

“Doctor, please, you have to save him!” Li Chang’an’s voice trembled. “No matter what, we have to save him!”

“I’ll do my best.” The doctor nodded, a hint of helplessness in his tone. “But… you should also prepare for the worst.”

The medical bay fell silent once again.

Worry and unease were written on everyone’s faces.

Zhou Ze’s fate was now like a small boat tossed in a storm, its future uncertain.

…

A few days later, a miracle occurred.

Zhou Ze was awake.

However, when he opened his eyes and looked around in confusion, everyone realized that things were not heading in a good direction.

He had amnesia.

He had completely forgotten everything.

“Who are you?” Zhou Ze’s voice was weak and unfamiliar, his eyes filled with confusion as he looked at Li Chang’an, who stood by his bed.

“I’m Li Chang’an, Captain of the 42 Combat Group’s Insect Hunter Squad,” Li Chang’an explained patiently. “Your name is Zhou Ze, the second young master of the Galaxy Group.”

“Galaxy Group? Second young master?” Zhou Ze’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What are those?”

“…” Li Chang’an was at a loss for words, his heart a swirl of complicated emotions.

‘It seems Zhou Ze really doesn’t remember anything.’

“Do you… do you remember anything at all?” Li Chang’an asked tentatively.

“I… I don’t remember anything.” Zhou Ze shook his head, pressing his temples in pain. “My head hurts so much…”

“Don’t think about it. Just get some rest for now,” Li Chang’an soothed. “Once you’re feeling better, I’ll slowly tell you everything.”

“Mmm…” Zhou Ze nodded obediently and closed his eyes.

Li Chang’an silently left the hospital room and, with complex feelings, went to find Su Wan.

“Minister Su, Zhou Ze is awake, but…” Li Chang’an paused, his tone heavy. “He has amnesia.”

“Amnesia?” Su Wan was a little surprised, her brow furrowing even more. “This… this is troublesome.”

“Yeah, I don’t know what to do either.” Li Chang’an sighed. Then, as if he’d thought of something, his eyes flickered. “But… maybe this is also an opportunity.”

“An opportunity? What kind of opportunity?” Su Wan looked at him, puzzled.

“Zhou Ze has amnesia. He doesn’t remember what happened before,” Li Chang’an said in a low voice. “We can use this to clear our names.”

“You mean…” Su Wan immediately understood what Li Chang’an was thinking.

“That’s right.” Li Chang’an nodded affirmatively. “We can tell Zhou Ze he was attacked by a monster in the ruins, and that it had nothing to do with us, the 42 Combat Group.”

“This… Will that work?” Su Wan hesitated. After all, the stakes were high.

“We have to try,” Li Chang’an said, his gaze firm. “Right now, it’s our only chance.”

“Alright…” Su Wan thought for a moment before finally nodding. “I’ll go with you.”

The two of them returned to the hospital room.

“Zhou Ze, how are you feeling?” Su Wan asked in a gentle tone.

“I’m… okay.” Zhou Ze gave a weak smile. “Thank you for saving me.”

“Don’t mention it. It’s what we should do,” Su Wan said softly. “Zhou Ze, do you remember how you were injured?”

“I… I don’t remember.” Zhou Ze shook his head again, his gaze vacant. “I only remember that… I think… I was attacked by a monster.”

“A monster? What kind of monster?” Li Chang’an immediately pressed.

“I… I don’t know.” Zhou Ze tried hard to remember, but came up with nothing. “I just remember the monster was terrifying. It… it sucked me into a black vortex…”

“A black vortex?” Li Chang’an and Su Wan exchanged a look.

It seemed Zhou Ze’s memory truly stopped at the moment he was sucked into the Crystal Ball.

“Zhou Ze, don’t worry. We’ll help you find that monster,” Su Wan said firmly. “We’ll get revenge for you.”

“Thank you…” Zhou Ze said gratefully.

“You’re welcome.” Su Wan smiled. “Get some rest. We’ll come visit you often.”

“Mmm…” Zhou Ze nodded again.

Li Chang’an and Su Wan left the hospital room.

“Minister Su, it looks like our plan… might actually succeed,” Li Chang’an’s tone held a trace of uncertainty, but also a sliver of hope.

“Let’s hope so.” Su Wan nodded, but her eyes still held a hint of worry.

…

“Young Master Zhou, you’re just barely able to move. You can’t be reckless, or you’ll pull open your wounds. It’ll be a real problem if it leaves a permanent injury.”

In the hospital room, the caregiver, Nanny Wang, was chattering away like she was scolding her own grandson, nearly pinning Zhou Ze back onto the bed.

Zhou Ze looked dazed and listless.

He wanted to “be reckless,” but his limbs felt heavy as lead. Forget getting out of bed, even turning over was a struggle.

“Nanny… Nanny Wang, how… how long have I been lying here?”

“You’ve been asleep for several days!” Nanny Wang said as she deftly tidied the bedside table. “You just woke up today. You had everyone worried sick!”

“Several days?” Zhou Ze frowned, trying hard to remember, but his mind was a complete blank. He couldn’t recall a thing.

“What… what happened to me?”

“You were bewitched by a monster!” Nanny Wang blurted out, then, realizing it was inappropriate, quickly covered her mouth.

“Pah, pah, pah, listen to this stupid mouth of mine, spouting nonsense!”

“A monster?” Zhou Ze was even more confused. “What monster?”

“Well…” Nanny Wang stammered, her eyes darting around, clearly not knowing how to continue her story.

“Zhou Ze, how are you feeling?” Li Chang’an asked as he pushed the door open, with Su Wan following behind him.

“Cap… Captain Li?” Seeing Li Chang’an was like grasping at a lifeline for Zhou Ze. “Where… where am I?”

“This is the medical bay at the Interstellar Warrior Base.” Li Chang’an walked to the bedside, his tone gentle. “You were injured. We saved you.”

“Injured? How was I injured?” Zhou Ze’s face was full of confusion.

Li Chang’an and Su Wan exchanged a look and began their act.

“You don’t remember? In the Kars Mine Area, you encountered a monster. A very powerful monster.”

“A monster?” Zhou Ze’s eyes widened. He tried to recall, and some blurry images flashed through his mind, but he couldn’t grasp them.

“Wha… what kind of monster?”

“That monster was terrifying!” Li Chang’an gestured. “It was bigger than a house, pitch-black all over, and had lots of tentacles…”

“Yes, yes, that’s the one!” Su Wan interjected at the perfect moment. “When we arrived, you’d already been swallowed by it. If we hadn’t risked our lives to save you, you would have…”

Su Wan didn’t finish her sentence, but her meaning was clear.

Zhou Ze’s face went deathly pale, as if he were terrified.

“I… I really encountered a monster?”

“Of course it’s true!” Li Chang’an slapped his chest, guaranteeing it. “If it weren’t for our Insect Hunter Squad, you would’ve been a goner!”

“Thank… thank you…” Zhou Ze’s voice trembled, his eyes filled with gratitude.

“Don’t mention it. It’s what we do.” Li Chang’an waved his hand dismissively, acting as if it were nothing.

“By the way, Zhou Ze, do you remember the Galaxy Group? Do you remember your father, Zhou Yuanshan?”

“Galaxy Group? Zhou Yuanshan?” Zhou Ze repeated the two names, his brow furrowed, seeming to try hard to remember.

“I… I think I have some impression of them, but… I can’t remember…”

“It’s okay if you can’t remember. Take it slow,” Li Chang’an comforted him. “When you’re feeling better, I’ll take you to see your father.”

“Okay…” Zhou Ze nodded, a hint of anticipation in his eyes.

Li Chang’an and Su Wan exchanged another look, both seeing a flicker of delight. It seemed their plan was halfway to succeeding.

“Young Master Zhou, just focus on getting better. Call me if you need anything,” Nanny Wang said, handing the peeled fruit to Zhou Ze. “We Interstellar Warriors are all good people. We won’t hurt you.”

“Mm, thank you, Nanny Wang.” Zhou Ze took the fruit and bit into it. The sweet juice helped clear his muddled mind a little.

Li Chang’an and Su Wan left the hospital room.

“Minister Su, it seems Zhou Ze really doesn’t remember a thing,” Li Chang’an said in a low, excited voice.

“Mm, that certainly saves us a lot of trouble.” Su Wan nodded slightly. “But we can’t let our guard down. Zhou Yuanshan won’t be easy to fool.”

“I know.” Li Chang’an nodded. “I’ll keep an eye on Zhou Ze and make sure nothing goes wrong.”

“Good. Thank you for your hard work.” Su Wan patted Li Chang’an’s shoulder. “After this is all over, I’ll recommend you for a commendation.”

“Forget the commendation. I’ll be happy enough if we can just save the 42 Combat Group,” Li Chang’an said with a wry smile.

“Don’t worry, the 42 Combat Group will be fine.” Su Wan’s tone was firm. “The Battle Team Alliance won’t let any Combat Group be wrongly accused.”
