Enlightenment: Attaining the Dao at Age 8
Chapter 713 - 349: My Throat’s About to Smoke
"Captain, can we take a water break?"
Sun Yang raised a hand, his face etched with exhaustion.
"My throat is so dry it feels like it’s smoking. At this rate, I’m going to die of thirst on the training field!"
"The water tank is at the edge of the training field. Go get it yourself!"
Li Chang’an said flatly.
"But when you get back, you’re adding ten minutes to your physical training!"
"Isn’t that just asking me to choose between dying of thirst and dying of exhaustion?"
Sun Yang’s jaw dropped. He stared at Li Chang’an, on the verge of a complete breakdown.
"Then you can choose not to drink right now!"
Li Chang’an remained expressionless.
"I’ll drink! Fine, I’ll drink, alright?!"
Sun Yang spun around and sprinted toward the water tank, shouting as he ran.
"What kind of captain is he? He’s a demon-sent torturer!"
Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but laugh as she watched Sun Yang’s retreating back.
"He’s pretty funny. He talks a big game, but he’s always the first one to run off!"
"He talks a lot of nonsense, but he runs fast!"
Shen Qiuyue said coldly, casually sheathing her sword.
"But no matter how fast he is, he still has to come back and obediently take his punishment!"
Before long, Sun Yang ran back, panting, clutching a bottle of water and mumbling indistinctly.
"I’m back from drinking water, Captain! Add the extra training! I’m ready to risk it all!"
"Very good!"
Li Chang’an nodded, glancing at him.
"Since you’re so eager, you can lead the laps!"
"More running!"
Sun Yang cried out, clutching his head as he squatted on the ground.
"Captain, can’t you switch things up a bit? My legs are about to give out from all the running!"
"When the Insect Race comes, they won’t care if your legs have given out!"
Li Chang’an said coldly.
"Ten laps. Don’t hold the squad back!"
Sun Yang stood up helplessly, still muttering under his breath.
"Ten laps! Great. My legs will probably be completely useless tonight. I’ll have to crawl into bed..."
"If you can run, run. If you can’t, then crawl!"
Han Ruoxi stood to the side, watching him with a smile and her arms crossed.
"Just try not to start crying halfway through!"
"You guys are all so cruel!"
Sun Yang yelled as he ran.
"We’re on the same team! Can’t you be a little gentler with me?"
"Gentler?"
Shen Qiuyue sneered.
"On the battlefield, the only ones who will be ’gentle’ with you are the Insect Race. They’ll bite your head off in one go!"
"Sister Qiuyue, you’re just trying to scare me!"
Sun Yang ran with even more vigor, but his mouth didn’t rest for a second.
"But I’m a coward, so stop bringing up the Insect Race!"
The squad members ran continuously on the training field, while Li Chang’an stood in place, his hawk-like gaze fixed on each of them.
After a while, he suddenly spoke.
"Sun Yang, your pace is too slow. Add three laps!"
"Three more laps?! Captain, you’re really going to kill someone like this!"
Sun Yang practically jumped, his eyes filled with Despair.
"Are you sure I’ll make it off this training field alive?"
"When the Insect Race comes, they won’t ask if you can survive!"
Li Chang’an’s gaze was icy.
"Keep running!"
"Fine, fine, I’ll run!"
Sun Yang gritted his teeth and started moving again, muttering.
"Is this training? This is more like holding my memorial service in advance!"
"Sun Yang, one more word of nonsense and I’ll make you add five laps!"
Li Chang’an’s voice was like a cold wind, instantly shutting Sun Yang up.
After the ten laps were done, everyone was so tired they nearly collapsed on the ground.
Sun Yang lay flat on the ground, not even wanting to move.
"Captain, if you make me run anymore, I think I’m going to leave my life right here..."
"Rest for five minutes, then prepare for the next training session!"
Li Chang’an ignored his complaint, simply tossing out the order.
"There’s more training?!"
Sun Yang shot up from the ground, staring at him in utter shock.
"Captain, is this training intensity meant to create super-soldiers? I think I’m strong enough already!"
"You think you’re strong enough?"
Li Chang’an glanced at him and said coldly.
"Then you can lead tomorrow’s training!"
"No, no, no! I was wrong!"
Sun Yang quickly waved his hands, a look of terror on his face.
"How could a weakling like me compare to you?"
Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but burst out laughing, clutching her stomach.
"Sun Yang, doesn’t your mouth ever get tired? You can still talk up a storm after running all those laps!"
"If my mouth doesn’t move, my legs hurt even more!"
Sun Yang replied with a completely straight face.
"Besides, I’m just trying to lighten the mood for the team. The least you could do is not constantly mock me if you’re not going to thank me!"
"Alright, that’s enough nonsense!"
Shen Qiuyue cut him off coldly.
"Any more nonsense, and the Captain really will add more training!"
Only then did Sun Yang shut his mouth and sit down obediently to recover his strength.
And so, the days passed one by one.
Time flew by.
Under Li Chang’an’s leadership, the Insect Hunter Squad had gradually adapted to life at the Lion’s Fang Star base.
One morning, after the squad had assembled, they were sitting around a large table in the cafeteria, eating breakfast.
"Hey, I’m telling you, could the breakfast at this base possibly get any worse?"
Sun Yang said, grimacing as he bit into a piece of rock-hard bread.
"Is this even meant for human consumption? I’d rather chew on an insect shell; it’d be more appetizing than this stuff!"
Han Ruoxi glanced up at him, her mouth full of a dry biscuit, and said indistinctly.
"All you know how to do is complain. You should be glad we have anything to eat at all, why are you being so picky?"
"No, I just don’t get it. Isn’t the base’s funding supposed to be pretty generous? Eating this stuff every day is going to cause problems sooner or later!"
Sun Yang tossed the bread back onto his plate with a look of disgust.
"Brother Chang’an, you tell me, can’t we apply to have the food improved?"
"Apply? Apply my ass!"
Li Chang’an slowly took a sip of hot water and set his cup down.
