Chapter 128: Lethal Attack To Heart
I took one quick glance through the rearview mirror, watching my two drop-dead gorgeous, half-naked girlfriends rolling around on the leather seats.
A sharp, dangerous heat flared in my lower stomach.
"Alright, hold on!" I cursed softly under my breath, my grip tightening on the steering wheel as I forced my eyes back onto the road. "You two better back off and sit properly right now, or I swear I’m pulling this car over into the emergency lane and making you both ride me until noon."
ZIP.
The backseat instantly fell dead silent.
Yerin and Yoona scrambled apart in a split second, sitting on opposite ends of the leather seat. Yerin pulled her knees tightly against her chest, burying her flustered face into her arms.
"You... you idiot!" Yerin’s muffled, embarrassed voice came from behind her knees. "Seth, you can’t just say stuff like ’I’m proud of you’ so casually and all of a sudden! My heart literally can’t handle it!"
I stared at the road ahead, genuinely bewildered by her extreme reaction. "I... I don’t really know what to tell you, Yerin. I just said what I felt. It was just the honest truth."
"THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MAKES IT A MILLION TIMES WORSE!!" Yerin muffled-screamed into her knees, her ears burning red.
Sitting in the front passenger seat, Val looked over at me, then turned her gaze slightly toward the side mirror. She offered a small, quiet nod.
"I agree with Yerin, Seth," Val said softly, her voice carrying a deep, quiet resonance.
"You too, Val?" I blinked in surprise. "Really?"
"Yes," Val murmured, her cheeks flushing with a faint, sweet blush as she looked out her side window. "You might think these are just small, casual gestures, and that you are simply expressing whatever comes naturally to your heart... but to us, your small actions carry immense, life-changing weight."
Val reached up, resting her hand over her chest, right where her heart was beating beneath her blazer.
"The best example..." Val whispered, her voice dropping into a tender, trembling cadence, "...was the day you brought food directly to me while I was on guard duty. All my life, I have been trained strictly to be a weapon, to protect others, and to shoulder every burden without complaint. But that afternoon... was the very first time in my life that someone looked at me and cared for my well-being first."
She took a quiet, shuddering breath, her violet eyes shining with deep affection. "And it wasn’t just that single moment. There have been so many instances, the way you look at me, the way you treat me as an equal, the way you pull me into your warmth... every small, uncalculated action you take traps my soul a little more, until I completely, irrevocably fell in love with you."
I sat behind the wheel, completely dazed.
I hadn’t even realized any of that. I hadn’t used any calculated smooth-talking tactics or high-society charm. I had literally just brought her food because she looked hungry and spoken to Yerin honestly because I genuinely admired her hard work. I was just acting on my natural instincts and also because I cared for them.
[Fufufu~] Paige giggled softly inside my mind, her tone remarkably gentle. [Sometimes, Host... simple, uncalculated honesty from a genuine heart is the most lethal weapon in the world. You conquered their defenses without even trying. In a world of lies and deceit, it’s like a lighthouse of a dark endless ocean.]
In the backseat, Yoona smoothed down her crimson hair, her dark eyes looking at me through the rearview mirror with an expression of intense, captivating warmth.
"Now I’m genuinely curious, Seth..." Yoona purred, her smooth voice carrying a soft, playful melody. "...what small, lethal gesture do you have prepared for me?"
I kept my hands on the steering wheel, taking a moment to think about it as the sedan approached the outer perimeter gates of the Fernando estate.
"For you, Yoona...?" I spoke calmly, my voice carrying quiet sincerity. "Honestly, I just want you to be able to relax whenever you’re around me."
Yoona paused, her playful smirk slowly melting away.
"The way you constantly carry yourself with flawless high-society grace, elegance, and perfection..." I explained softly, looking at her reflection, "...shows just how much insane, suffocating pressure you’ve been carrying on your shoulders as the heir to the Rothschild family. I understand why you do it. But I hope you know... whenever you’re with me, you don’t have to be the perfect, untouchable heir. You can drop the mask, relax, and just be your true self."
I offered her a warm, genuine smile through the mirror. "I know I usually complain about administrative work and taking on heavy responsibilities... but I’m going to step up and help you shoulder that burden. I want you to know that you’re never, ever going to be alone in this again."
The backseat fell into dead silence.
Yoona stopped smiling entirely. She sat frozen on the leather seat, her sharp eyes staring at my reflection with an intensity so deep, so profound, and so completely dazed that she couldn’t even form a single word. The impenetrable, elegant composure of the Rothschild heir shattered completely, leaving behind a woman who felt deeply, thoroughly seen.
Yerin peeked out from behind her knees, looking at her frozen twin sister before turning a shocked glare toward the front seat.
"SEE?!" Yerin yelled, pointing an accusing finger at me. "Do you see how easily this idiot pierces straight into a woman’s heart?! It’s ridiculously dangerous!! He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it!!"
Yoona slowly raised her hand, resting her manicured fingers over her heart and feeling its rapid, heavy thumping against her chest. A breathtaking, radiant smile slowly broke across her face.
"My goodness..." Yoona breathed, her eyes shining with intense affection. "...now I completely understand why Goddess Ishtar fell so deeply in love with you after spending only few short hours by your side."
"I agree," Val murmured from the passenger seat, nodding.
"WAIT! WHAT?!" Yerin’s head snapped toward Yoona, her dark eyes wide with explosive shock. "GODDESS ISHTAR?! The literal Goddess of Love fell in love with Seth too?! WHEN THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN?! WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS?"
I let out a soft, genuine laugh, keeping my eyes fixed on the driveway ahead as Yoona began explaining the whole Uruk situation to her screaming, flustered twin sister in the backseat.
Even though I hadn’t consciously realized how much my small actions had affected the three incredible women sitting in my car... hearing their words brought a deep, profound sense of quiet happiness to my heart.
Making them feel comfortable, protected, seen, and truly loved... that was all I ever wanted.
