Engagement Annulled? Now The Husbands Kneel and Beg for Her Favor
Chapter 506: Extra: Qin Muye - Good Little Puppy (Part 1)
The New Year holiday ended, and spring arrived.
The Twelve Cities Military District was a hive of activity, and the atmosphere was tense.
It was common knowledge that spring was the season of renewal, and also the season when Mutant Beasts began actively mating.
Last year, thanks to Jiang Qingli’s help, the Spiritual Mutant Beasts had reached a truce with the military district. They helped control the other Mutant Beasts, and as a result, the district had enjoyed half a year of peace.
But Spiritual Mutant Beasts were still Mutant Beasts. When spring arrived, they were inevitably affected, growing restless and agitated.
From the beginning of March, everyone in the military district, from the top brass to the rank and file, had been grappling with this issue.
They didn’t even get their spring holidays pushed back past June.
When Yuan Liang and the others entered the lab, they saw a group of researchers huddled together, their brows tightly furrowed.
As they drew closer, they heard a hoarse voice wailing.
Peeking through a gap in the crowd, they saw a familiar face… ah, no, a familiar beast.
The Weaving Nightmare Beast, the one previously captured by Jiang Qingli and then used as a test subject by Lü Xin, had somehow found its way here. It was throwing a tantrum in front of the researchers, crying that its wife had rejected it.
“She won’t even look at me now! She’s out there fooling around with other beasts! You have to do something! I’ll die without a wife!”
The lead researcher quickly tried to soothe him. “Old Yan, please, calm down…”
This Weaving Nightmare Beast was one of the most intelligent among the Spiritual Mutant Beasts. Its intellect had been further enhanced by Lü Xin’s experiments, making it equivalent to a human high-schooler. After being recruited, he was put in charge of managing some of the larger Mutant Beasts.
He’d been around humans long enough to notice they all had surnames, so he’d given himself a human name: Yan Meng. In his clan, only the “fierce” () males got any attention.
The researchers usually called him Old Yan; they were all good buddies.
One of the researchers wiped his tears with a tissue and said, “This… this is a matter between you and your wife. We can’t really help. Whoa, stop flapping! Just tell us what happened first…”
“My wife says I don’t have enough stamina in the air!” the Weaving Nightmare Beast wailed, pointing at its wings. “And isn’t it true that my stamina is shot because that guy Lü drew so much blood my wings are now weak! I’ve been working my tail off for you military for the past six months! You need to take responsibility! All of you need to take responsibility!”
Although the Nightmare Beast was quite intelligent, he was, after all, still a beast. He felt no embarrassment airing his dirty laundry in public; on the contrary, he sounded perfectly self-righteous.
The crowd was plunged into silence.
‘This… How were they supposed to take responsibility for that?!’
Seeing their silence, the Weaving Nightmare Beast grew angry. “If you’re not going to help, then what am I supposed to do! What about my wife’s future!”
“What are you yelling about?” an impatient voice cut in. “Just call your wife over. We’ll find her a new mate, won’t that solve it?”
The Weaving Nightmare Beast froze.
The crowd parted, and a silver-haired young man in a military uniform came into view. He gave the beast a defiant arch of his brow.
The man was tall, wearing his military uniform with an air of arrogance. He stood with one hand in his pocket, his gaze as sharp as a knife as it fixed on the beast.
Qin Muye!
‘H-h-he’s here! Why is he here?!’
In the entire military district, there was no one the Weaving Nightmare Beast feared more than this man—aside from Jiang Qingli. Right after being rescued from Lü Xin, Qin Muye had grabbed him by his bird-like neck and warned him to behave. If he ever dared to make a move on Jiang Qingli again, Qin Muye threatened to braise him and serve him as a bar snack.
At first, the Weaving Nightmare Beast hadn’t taken him seriously. But then he’d slacked off once, and a Mutant Beast under his management had charged into the suburbs, nearly injuring a young boy.
Qin Muye had ignored all the peace and friendship treaties and taught him a brutal lesson. The beast had been obedient ever since, but the memory still sent phantom pains through his wings.
Recalling the painful experience, the Weaving Nightmare Beast silently tucked its wings in tight and said meekly, “You know, I suddenly feel like I can still work on it. And, uh, my mom is calling me home for… dinner, so I’ll be going now…”
With that, he flapped his wings, about to flee.
He had just taken flight when a flash of lightning sparked in midair.
Yuan Liang quickly shouted, “Fang Chi!”
“On it.”
A light chuckle rang out as several vines appeared out of thin air, wrapping around the Weaving Nightmare Beast’s wings. The creature dropped like a stone, hitting the ground with a loud THUD.
The Weaving Nightmare Beast, scared to the point of tears, shrieked, “I don’t taste good! I don’t taste good! Help! Help me!”
Yuan Liang looked at the young man beside him, the corner of his mouth twitching. “I told you to restrain Muye so he wouldn’t hurt our partner, not to restrain our partner…”
Fang Chi’s lips curled. “Same result.”
‘Same result my ass,’ the Weaving Nightmare Beast thought. ‘You try falling from over ten meters.’
But he didn’t dare make a sound.
Because he knew Fang Chi was one tough customer. Back when Lü Xin had them locked in the same cell, he had bad-mouthed Jiang Qingli to Fang Chi every day and gotten beaten up for it regularly.
He hadn’t known why back then.
It was only after getting out that he discovered Fang Chi was Jiang Qingli’s fanboy!
What a cruel twist of fate!
Thankfully, Yuan Liang still had a bit of a conscience. He had Fang Chi withdraw the vines, then squatted down and pulled the Weaving Nightmare Beast to its feet, explaining with a smile, “We don’t want to eat you. It’s just that a few Mutant Beasts have gone berserk in District X-n-O11, and we need you to go with them to take a look.”
The Weaving Nightmare Beast’s gaze swept the room. “Isn’t my winged comrade here?”
Yuan Liang blinked. “Who?”
The Weaving Nightmare Beast replied, “That kid with the ‘Bird’ surname.”
Hearing this, Qin Muye let out a cold sneer.
The Weaving Nightmare Beast hunched its shoulders, pulling its neck in even tighter.
The Vermilion Bird Beastman also had wings, so they were practically relatives. His methods were much gentler, and the Weaving Nightmare Beast far preferred working under him.
Yuan Liang gave an apologetic smile. “Sorry, only Muye is free this afternoon… But you two are our most efficient team. I’m sure this will go smoothly too.”
The Weaving Nightmare Beast: “…”
‘Of course, it was efficient,’ the beast thought bitterly. ‘This Qin Muye is more ruthless than a mercenary. His methods are clean and vicious, and he doesn’t care if I get hurt.’
‘How does Jiang Qingli put up with a savage beast like him? When you humans pick a Beast Husband, do you only care about his chest size?’
Musing on this, the Weaving Nightmare Beast flew off toward the mission area.
Qin Muye was about to follow when Yuan Liang suddenly called out, “Muye, come back early.”
The young man flexed his wrists without breaking his stride. “Why?”
Yuan Liang said with a smile, “There’s a surprise for you.”
Qin Muye gave a noncommittal grunt and quickened his pace.
Fang Chi, however, cast a thoughtful glance at Yuan Liang.
…
The mission was a success.
At dusk, Qin Muye returned to the base and headed straight for the hospital.
The young man’s hair was a mess, his uniform was spattered with blood, and a fresh red liquid dripped from his chin. Combined with his ferocious glare and the mangled, bloody thing he was carrying, he looked like he’d just returned from a murder, utterly terrifying.
The doctors jumped in fright. Just as one was about to ask what happened, he tossed the thing in his hand in front of them.
The doctors looked and saw it was the Weaving Nightmare Beast.
There was a large hole in the Weaving Nightmare Beast’s wing, and it was glaring at Qin Muye with wide, hateful eyes, as if staring at its mortal enemy.
A doctor asked, “What… what happened here…?”
Qin Muye’s arm was also injured, and his expression was grim.
The Weaving Nightmare Beast was just about to speak when a voice suddenly called out, “Qin Muye!”
The sound of running footsteps grew closer, and an elegant figure appeared, throwing herself directly into Qin Muye’s arms.
Qin Muye stumbled back a few steps.
The Weaving Nightmare Beast flinched, bracing itself for Qin Muye’s inevitable explosion of anger.
But in the next second…
The young man who had looked like a god of slaughter just moments before was not only not angry, but his beast ears even popped out before quickly retracting. A bashful expression even appeared on his face. “When did you get here?”
