Engagement Annulled? Now The Husbands Kneel and Beg for Her Favor

Chapter 406 - 405: Baili Jing’s Second Superpower

The doctor arrived within a minute.

But they had both suffered fatal wounds, and even the most advanced medical equipment was powerless to save them.

From the Black-winged Bird attack to their arrival at the temporary detention center, no more than half an hour had passed.

Bypassing the detention center’s heavy surveillance, taking control of it, and then killing two A Level males was no small feat.

Unless it was someone from inside the military district...

Jiang Qingli and Qin Muye exchanged a look, both recalling Wang Yu’s confession during his arrest the previous night.

...

Wang Yu and Li Qian had been escorted into the temporary detention center by Yuan Liang, only to be murdered. Their status as sentinels and their Superpower Levels meant this matter could not be easily resolved.

They spent the entire morning at the detention center, writing reports and enduring three or four rounds of questioning.

Yuan Liang, as the highest-ranking officer among them, was treated as the prime suspect and was only allowed to leave after a thorough interrogation.

Outside the temporary detention center, Yuan Liang pinched the bridge of his nose. "I had a feeling last night that this wasn’t simple, but I didn’t expect it to be this much trouble. Advisor Jiang, no need to worry. I’ll have my people continue to follow up, and we’ll also reinforce the security at your residence..."

Jiang Qingli thanked him, "Alright, thank you for your trouble."

"It’s our duty."

After speaking with Jiang Qingli, Yuan Liang was about to tell Qin Muye to be careful as well, but he noticed Qin Muye was looking straight ahead.

Following his gaze, he saw a car door open. Baili Jing and Gu Nian stepped out from opposite sides and stood there, clearly waiting for Jiang Qingli.

As they approached, Qin Muye couldn’t help but tsk. "Why haven’t you two left yet?"

"My apologies." Gu Nian pursed his lips. "I just thought I should say goodbye to Her Highness and Marshal Yuan before leaving. It would be rude otherwise..."

Qin Muye: "..."

’Sometimes, he had to give it to this green tea master.’

’If there was an opportunity to put on an act, he’d take it. If there wasn’t, he’d create one.’

’As if he cared about being rude. His eyes were so glued to Jiang Qingli you couldn’t have pried them off.’

Yuan Liang, however, found the young man quite well-behaved. He said kindly, "We don’t have as many rules here as in the Upper City District, but you’ll still need to request access the next time you two want to visit the Lower District."

Gu Nian assumed a humble, receptive posture.

After a few more words, Gu Nian cut open a rift in space right in front of Yuan Liang and slipped inside.

After the spatial rift vanished, Yuan Liang rubbed his chin and remarked, "Usually, Space System users can only transport themselves. Xiao Gu can take two other people, and he doesn’t seem to have any discomfort making quick return trips. He’s a promising talent. Does he have any intention of joining the military?"

Qin Muye let out a cold snort.

Jiang Qingli quickly interjected, "He... he has other plans."

’Are you kidding me? There’s no way Gu Nian could join the military.’

’If they actually investigated and found something, he’d be locked up for life...’

Yuan Liang nodded with a look of regret but didn’t press the issue, only reminding them to be safe.

...

Qin Muye had to go on patrol in the afternoon, and since Jiang Qingli had no work, she planned to return to her residence to rest.

Just as the elevator doors opened, a head popped in.

Jiang Qingli, who had been lost in thought, was startled by the sudden appearance of a handsome face so close and took an instinctive step back.

"Sister... did I scare you?" Fang Chi held the elevator doors open with both hands, apologizing cautiously. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to."

A vine draped over the young boy’s shoulder drooped along with its master as he bowed to Jiang Qingli, the very picture of apology.

Jiang Qingli patted the vine and said gently, "It’s fine, you just surprised me. What are you doing here?"

At the question, Fang Chi looked down, embarrassed, and fiddled with his fingers.

The laughing vine on his shoulder secretly pointed to the right.

Jiang Qingli stepped out of the elevator and saw Lü Xin to her right.

Lü Xin smiled and explained, "This morning, someone from the research institute came back from the temporary detention center and said that people had been attacked and killed. Fang Chi was worried you were hurt and insisted that I bring him here."

Hearing this, Fang Chi muttered under his breath, "No, I didn’t. You’re the one who brought me."

"Look at him, he’s learned to be embarrassed," Lü Xin couldn’t help but laugh again.

Fang Chi circled Jiang Qingli, inspecting her from top to bottom and back again. After confirming that she was unharmed down to the last strand of her hair, Lü Xin said, "Now that you see Qingli is completely fine, you can rest easy, right?"

He held out a hand to Fang Chi. "Come on, let’s go back. Don’t disturb your sister during her afternoon rest."

"Sister..." Fang Chi said with a serious face, earnestly instructing her, "If anything happens, you have to come find me. I’m an S-level male, I can protect you!"

"I know, I know. Thank you." Jiang Qingli patted the top of his head. "Now go on, go on."

"Then I’m going back for my shot..." Fang Chi took a few steps, then stopped and turned to stare at Jiang Qingli.

Lü Xin looked as exhausted as a parent with a difficult child. "What is it now, my little master?"

"It’s nothing..." Fang Chi muttered. "It’s just... Sister has a familiar scent on her."

After the two of them left, Jiang Qingli went back to her room.

The moment she closed the door, a familiar warmth enveloped her from behind.

The brush of something fluffy against her chin sent a familiar, pleasant tingle through her.

Jiang Qingli looked down to see a snow-white fox tail just as a soft kiss landed on her cheek.

"Baby."

As his kisses threatened to trail downward, Jiang Qingli turned around and pressed her fingers to his lips. Her eyes scanned the room, but she saw no sign of Gu Nian.

"Don’t bother looking, baby. It’s just me here."

Baili Jing took her wrist, brought it to his lips for a kiss, and gazed at her tenderly with his pale gold eyes, not looking away for a second.

His long fingers traced the curve of her waist. He wore a gentle smile, but beneath his handsome exterior, she could clearly feel a scorching, barely concealed agitation.

Jiang Qingli even felt like she was being stalked by a predator.

That if she showed any intention of getting closer, he would pounce on her and devour her, gently, one bite at a time.

Baili Jing was usually so gentle and indulgent that she had almost forgotten that foxes are hunters, too.

Having not seen him in so long, Jiang Qingli had of course missed him dearly.

Jiang Qingli wrapped her arms around Baili Jing’s neck and tilted her face up to ask, "Did Nian drop you off and then go back? He didn’t throw a fit, did he?"

"He doesn’t know I came to see you." At this, a sly glint flashed in the fox’s pale gold eyes. "Baby, I came on my own."

’On his own?’

Jiang Qingli was confused.

Baili Jing stroked the top of her head. "For your husband, something like this isn’t difficult."

As he spoke, he traced a line in the empty air with his finger.

A narrow rift materialized in midair.

The curve of the rift was almost identical to the ones Gu Nian created, but it seemed to be a scaled-down version—narrower and shorter, though still large enough for an adult male to pass through by bending over.

Jiang Qingli stepped forward, reaching her hand toward the rift.

The other side opened into Baili Jing’s bedroom, directly facing his desk. Her hand easily grabbed a fountain pen from the desk and pulled it back through.

Baili Jing lowered his hand, and the rift vanished.

But the solid feel of the pen in her hand reminded Jiang Qingli that everything that had just happened was real.

Staring down at the fountain pen in her palm, Jiang Qingli felt a little dizzy. "Isn’t your Superpower a Barrier? Then what is...?"

Baili Jing took her hand and said gently, "This is my second Superpower."
