Chapter 856: 2nd Time, 100 Days

The 100th year since the previous trial had come for Cedric…well, his clone, to be more specific.

He opened his eyes inside the little shelter he created for himself with a sigh and felt the subconscious urge to return to the core inheritance zone of the Origin Heaven Continent.

Actually, this was no mere urge. It’s a strong compulsion that he has to answer, lest he get kicked out of this place.

He walked outside of his shelter and saw others already making their way there. Some had seen him come out and inclined their heads in his direction, a way of acknowledgement. Cedric did the same and began walking towards the core inheritance zone with them.

Cedric wasn’t in a hurry. He took his time to review the experiences he had last time. He recalled the details about the scenario trial, the abyssals, and his tactics and listed the few possible adjustments that might happen this time. This was his way of preparing for the trial.

He didn’t have to worry about his skills since he had been honing them ever since. He’s as sharp as he possibly could be right now.

After a short march, he stepped into the veil that separated the core inheritance zone and once again arrived at the vast and endless cosmos with the nebula at its core.

He made his way to the nebula along with the others.

However, unlike last time, Angelo wasn’t here to greet him or facilitate the trial for him. Cedric had no idea where he could possibly be, but it doesn’t matter since he didn’t need to be here for Cedric to take the trial.

There is a space, a pocket dimension, he could sense where the trial takes place. It’s the source of the compulsion he was feeling. Just like last time, all he has to do is go in there, and the trial will take place for him.

And so, that’s exactly what he did.

Cedric stepped into that pocket dimension and, once again, found himself standing in the middle of the barren Limitless Continent.

This wasn’t his first time here. He already knows what to do and what will happen. This trial wouldn’t forget to inform him if there had been some changes to the trial, so he trusted that it’s exactly the same as the last time, only a bit harder this time around.

And so, without any further delay, Cedric took a deep breath, summoned a sword, and started the trial.

BOOM!!

This time, the trial started with a meteor falling towards his direction.

With a quick, and somewhat alarmed, scan of his senses, he discovered that this was no ordinary meteor. This was someone…something, actually.

It’s a gigantic abyssal. One that swallowed everything around it subconsciously without any intent of spitting anything out, not even dregs.

His scan also picked up several life signs around him and more abyssals fighting them.

Cedric could immediately tell that there were more than last time. Fortunately, it seems that his allies were also more than the last time, which somewhat, only just by a little bit, evened out the odds.

Knowing that the difficulty of the trial was adjusted depending on his performance, Cedric had absolutely no desire to go all out unless he was forced to.

His tactic of kill-stealing last time worked out great. And there was no need to change tactics for now, so he made his presence scarce and moved like a specter across the battlefield, looking for chances to steal some kills or assists.

His main priority was to survive for seven days. After all, that’s the only way he’d clear this trial. But of course, killing abyssals is what grants him comprehension time rewards for the tablets, which was as equally important to him.

Survive first, then assist others with the abyssals, and hope he gets more comprehension time rewards. Cedric could calculate the risks of his every move, so he shouldn’t lose out on too many opportunities.

And for some time, this is exactly what happened.

Cedric continued weaving through the battlefield like wind, never putting himself in the way of danger but not being cowed by it either. He struck around groups, picked up kills and assists, and steadily accumulated time rewards.

By the end of the first day, he had already collected 10 days of comprehension time rewards, which was already decent.

However, Cedric knows that this trial was more difficult compared to the last one. And the main source of that was that gigantic abyssal that came crashing down like a meteor earlier.

He could see that thing everywhere in the battlefield. It moved very slowly, at a snail’s pace even. But that doesn’t matter at all because its mere presence destabilized the battlefield. It never needed to do anything to cause harm; its existence itself was harmful to everything and everyone. It doesn’t even need to try.

As Cedric continues to drift through the battlefield and in and out of the enemies, he keeps close watch on that thing.

That gigantic abyssal took a mere ten steps forward from its landing spot in a span of a day, which wasn’t really much to begin with, but the real shocker is that it has killed at least a hundred people just by existing.

There were those who saw the big guy and noticed how slow it moved before deciding that it’s an easier target, only to be proven wrong. And that mistake had the steep price of being their lives, of course.

Then, there were the unfortunate ones. People who somehow ended up coming face-to-face with that thing. They never wanted to; it’s just that the battlefield was so chaotic and frantic that they somehow ended up in its way and got killed in the process.

Mind you, not even once did this thing attack. It just took some steps forward and…existed, that’s all. But everything around it was reduced to nothingness. There’s an invisible vacuum around that thing, and due to its size, the range of that vacuum was larger compared to other abyssals.

It’s less of an abyssal and more of a slow-moving black hole that swallowed everything.

Cedric decided to steer clear of that thing. His priority was clearing the trial, not engaging with that thing.

And so, for the following days, he did just that.

He made sure he didn’t go anywhere near that gigantic abyssal. Even if it means abandoning a sure kill of an abyssal in exchange for being near that thing, he didn’t bite.

Cedric practically ignored its existence as if saying, ’Out of sight, out of mind.’ And with him being focused on his tasks, he gradually accumulated time rewards.

And then, with a sharp ding. The seven-day trial ended.

Cedric was kicked out of the trial space, returning to the vast space where the nebula was.

He took a deep breath and almost had to fight off the smile that threatened to appear on his face.

’100 days! Fantastic! ’He inwardly marveled.

Yes, 100 days. That’s how many comprehension time rewards he had received from this trial.

If Angelo were here, he’d be shocked. This much time off at once was practically unheard of. Especially considering that this was just Cedric’s 2nd trial.

Hell, if this was known to others and seizing-time rewards were allowed here, everybody would start challenging him to take some of this.

Pretty much everybody here was suffering from their trials, yet here he was, accumulating this many just by employing some rather tactless and shameless tactic.

Alas, their incompetence was not his fault. And Cedric couldn’t even bring himself to feel guilty about this.

With this many time rewards, Cedric, of course, wouldn’t be holding back.

He walked right into the nebula, sat cross-legged, and summoned the Origin Sword Law Tablet right away, then started comprehending.

Cedric had already comprehended all the necessary legal essences. He had also memorized the framework needed to complete this thing. However, there were some things that he needed some clarifications with, so he went back for this again.

This time, he was determined to completely memorize everything that gained the recognition of the Origin Sword Laws before the next time he was summoned here.

And so, days passed just like this.

Cedric didn’t use all 100 days at once. On the 50th day, he woke himself up and rushed out of the nebula.

He flew out of the core inheritance zone swiftly and returned to his shelter. He didn’t even bother greeting anybody on his way out.

Once he returned, he immediately sealed himself inside the shelter and made sure that he wouldn’t be disturbed. Then, once he was sure that everything was ready, he delved into his new insights and began the procedure.

The insights bubbled out of his consciousness, turning into pieces that started making sense the more he churned them out.

Sharp sword energies radiated out of his body, leaving more sword scars around his shelter. His aura steadily rose the deeper his understanding went.

Slowly but surely, the diagram of the Origin Sword Law was condensing on his consciousness and on his Inner World.

It wouldn’t be long now. Soon, very soon, this diagram will be completed, and Cedric will finally gain the recognition of Origin Sword Laws.
