The air trembled from the intense heat radiating from the fiery ray. Vyora's attack was visible far beyond the sword field, soaring above the wall and unafraid of the darkness.
Some of the monsters inhabiting the Pit, and the servants of other Frenzied Shards, noticed the bright light - a rarity not only here, but throughout the Hollow Lands.
Some of them exchanged confused glances, while others narrowed their eyes in a frown, for they knew which Frenzied Shard was in that place.
When a powerful Frenzied Shard was losing, changes were taking place throughout the Pit. This marked the beginning of a shift in the balance of power, but the same was true in the opposite scenario, should the Frenzied Shard prevail in a fierce battle.
For the Frenzied Shard itself, this meant merely a fresh supply of energy, but the changes were far more significant for its servants.
Most of the monsters who noticed Vyora's attack knew who was protecting that Frenzied Shard.
If the Dark Knight finally got what he wanted, this situation would extend far beyond the Pit and become news in the Hollow Lands.
However, Adam and the others were unaware of this. To them, the Dark Knight was simply a very powerful servant and nothing more.
Who knows? Perhaps they would defeat him, and that would be the end of it.

The Dark Knight stepped forward toward the Frenzied Shard.
He had only a few seconds to act before the flaming ray struck the Frenzied Shard.
Sure, a single attack from Vyora wouldn't be enough to destroy the Frenzied Shard, but any damage brought the Dark Knight closer to defeat.
"Is he using his cape again?" Adam narrowed his eyes. It was the only explanation that came to mind.
Strangely enough, Adam was both right and wrong at the same time.
Finding himself next to the Frenzied Shard, the Dark Knight raised his arm without drawing his sword. He could slice through a meteorite, but not stop a flaming ray.

One of the three red eyes on his cape twitched. It blinked several times before retreating inward, hiding among the dark fabric.
Sarka growled, "Agh? Where did that thing go?!"
At the same moment, the third eye opened on the back of the Dark Knight's hand. The plates of his armor parted, creating a socket for the third eye.
'So this eye was supposed to be here all along?' Adam watched closely.
"GGGGRRRR!!!"
With a powerful growl, the Dark Knight thrust his hand forward, opening his palm.
The pupil of the red eye narrowed as it filled with black, jagged lines. The Dark Knight forced the third eye to work at the limit of its capabilities, pushing it to the brink of collapse.
Then, a dark light shot out of his hand in a cone, heading upward.
"N-No…" Vyora's voice trembled as she realized what was about to happen.
As if hitting a wormhole, the flaming ray vanished into the dark cone. It was neither a shield nor a barrier. The flaming ray met no resistance as it simply vanished into the Dark Knight's hand.
Adam leaned forward. "But, it's not as simple as it looks from the outside, right?"
"Gha! Gha! Gha!"
The Dark Knight coughed. Blood gushed through slits in his helmet, covering the ground before him.
The third eye on his hand closed, covering itself with tiny plates, protective scales like those of a dragon, until it was fully restored.
Sarka bared her fangs. She was about to activate her Hollow Mark and attack the Dark Knight.
'While he's weakened, I can tear him to pieces! This is my chance!'
But before the first pulse could pass through her aura, something made her freeze.
Step.
The Dark Knight stepped forward, still weakened after absorbing the fiery ray. His stride and stance were unsteady, but something sent a chill down Adam's spine.
'Wait, something's wrong? Why do I want to run as far away from here as possible? What is that bastard going to do?!"
"Gha…" The Dark Knight heaved a heavy sigh as his aura shook the space. "That was an impressive attack. However, it seems you'll need quite some time before you can use it again, won't you?"
Vyora gulped as she stepped back. The Dark Knight easily understood the limitations of her Hollow Mark.
Her abilities possessed immense destructive power, but she couldn't use them often without inflicting severe injuries on herself.
"Well, old men like me must help the younger generation. I'll restore your ability, young lady."
With those words, the third eye opened again. Now its pupil was wide open, filled with madness.
Spark!
The dark spark flared before his palm, in a heartbeat igniting into a powerful ray of dark flame.
The Dark Knight hadn't simply absorbed Vyora's attack. Now, he could use her flaming ray against her.
And… his flaming ray possessed far more terrifying power than the original.
"No, no, no!" Vyora cried out as the dark flame was about to engulf her.
Fear was reflected in her wide-open eyes as she tried to retreat to a safe distance, but she didn't have enough speed to do so.
The edges of her white robe began to burn, vanishing in dark sparks, and soon the same would happen to her.
WHOOOOOOSH!
A white light flashed before her.
Fortunately for Vyora, she had someone far faster than she was.

Loargh lifted her into his arms, and his wings fluttered. In a flash of lightning, he soared upward, stopping between the sword tips and the darkness.
The dark ray turned the black flowers and tall grass into nothing, crashing into the giant swords, which took the full brunt of the blow.
"Agh?" Vyora was puzzled as she looked up.
Loargh's calm eyes and gentle smile met hers. His great wings, woven from lightning and light, were a sign of his power.
"Don't worry. You did a great job. Now, one of his three eyes is gone. Only two remain."
Vyora blushed for a moment, her cheeks turning red.
Whooooosh!
Before she could say anything, Loargh vanished and reappeared next to Sarka and Adam, leaving Vyora behind.
He nodded at Adam and looked at Sarka.
"Are you ready to show what the monsters from the blade pillars are capable of?"
Sarka grinned widely, showing all her teeth.
"Of course!!!"
