Chapter 1607 1607: Clan and Two Contenders

When the First Star brought Adam to the Dark Shore, it became one of the most important events in his history. He miraculously survived thanks to the help of three powerful warriors, but it was also a dramatic experience because immediately after that, he had a long conversation with Wilfred.

In any case, Adam became one of the few Phantoms who passed through the black flash and remained alive.

He believed that all of this was in the past and that the experience of this mission had helped him until now, but now he realized that this was not entirely true.

"The Dark Energy...?" Adam asked, baffled.

He had only recently learned of the existence of the Ancient Energy. It was another level, a powerful weapon, a valuable resource that would be enough for a few attacks at best.

Sure, over time, Adam would have more ancient energy, but that was something that awaited him in the future, not now.

Now, he had learned about yet another type of energy, from the monster that had kidnapped him, which was actually a blessing in disguise.

The situation was strange, and it was difficult for Adam to remember every detail and turn.

But only one question interested him more than the others:

"So if I want to, I can access the Dark Energy right now?" he asked.

Zargos nodded.

"Yeah. Normally, it would have happened later in your evolution, but colliding with the black flash has its advantages."

"Still... If I've had this power all along, but no one told me about it, then it must be dangerous for my level."

Adam stared intently at Zargos.

"Isn't that right?"

"Hah, you mean that's going to stop you?" He waved his hand dismissively. "Sure, you were supposed to find out about it later, but I don't care. You can do it because you're Adam Vinter and because I, your savior, need you to!"

Adam didn't know how to react.

On the one hand, Zargos fully supported him, and he was definitely not an enemy, since he had saved Adam from the Lords who were hunting him. On the other hand, Zargos was reckless, and his bet was Adam's life.

But... Zargos was right.

Once Adam learned about the Dark Energy, there was no stopping him. The process had begun.

"Alright, let's say I can get to the Dark Energy. What exactly do you want from me? Are you planning to take my power?"

Zargos folded his arms behind his head in a relaxed manner.

"Nah, all your power will stay with you. You don't have to worry about that. I'll absorb your energy, but all that will happen to you is severe exhaustion for a few hours. You'll feel the same as after a battle in which you've spent every last drop of energy."

After a few moments, Adam nodded. He understood that, one way or another, he would have to pay for Zargos's saving him. The chance that Morok's plan would succeed was small, but even 10% was too big a risk for this situation.

"By the way, what would you have done if Morok had noticed us? What if they realized that someone had deliberately taken me away from Ramilo so they couldn't capture me?"

Zargos shrugged.

"I don't know, I would have made decisions during the fight. But, most likely, I would have just turned each of them into a pile of ashes, although..." His gaze swept across the jungle around them. "It would be a shame if half of this beauty were burned."

Surprise was reflected on Adam's face. He hadn't expected that answer.

'Hmm? Does he mean he would kill everyone of them if necessary? Although considering that he was able to fight Ramilo on equal terms in his battle form... that's not surprising.'

"So... I have to figure out how to get to the Dark Energy inside my Evolution Tree, and then you'll take that energy, right?"

Zargos nodded.

"But why do you need it? Will it help you become stronger in some way?" Adam asked.

Strangely enough, Zargos nodded again.

"At the Second Circle, things aren't as simple as they used to be for monsters. We also have to fulfill conditions, something like that. So, just one drop of the Dark Energy from the First Star itself can make me stronger."

He interlocked his fingers.

"Usually, to get such a resource, you have to go to the far reaches of the Dark Shore, or look for places with particularly powerful Twilight Crystals. But why do I need that when I have you?"

Adam scratched his cheek. He understood all the risks, but what choice did he have? He couldn't just ignore the fact that there was a new power inside him, and it had remained hidden for a long time, ever since the end of the K3 Level.

Moreover, Adam had nowhere else to go. Ramilo had left him here, so to some extent, he was dependent on Zargos.

"You want to become stronger, I get it, but you don't seem like someone who pursues power for power's sake. Is there a reason for this?"

"Yeah. You're not from these lands, so you don't know that my clan currently has no leader."

Adam tilted his head.

"Are you one of the contenders?"

Zargos nodded calmly. His gaze showed no particular interest in the position.

"Is that why you want to become stronger? I mean, will the energy of the First Star allow you to take a step forward?"

"Sure, I'll become stronger, but that's not why I'm doing this. My sister is also one of the contenders for the head position. Keranda, she's a scary woman."

Zargos grinned, turning to Adam.

"So, basically, I want to get the best for myself. The only thing that interests me is that I am stronger than my sister, even if it's just a tiny step. She, in turn, can take over as the leader of our clan and take on all the hard work. I'm not cut out for that."

"Hah, do you know that you're not a brother, but a piece of shit?" Adam chuckled.

Zargos snorted.

"Of course! That's the whole point!"

After a few moments, Adam looked around.

"What should we do next? Should I dive into my inner space?"

"Nah."

Zargos waved his hand lazily as he got to his feet.

He dusted himself off and looked at Adam with fire in his eyes.

"You were just kidnapped by a terrifying monster! I'm sure what you want right now is fruit and cocktails!"

"Agh?"
