Chapter 1572 1572: Escape and Fog
Chapter 1572 1572: Escape and Fog
The last time Adam went to the Dead Lands, his journey was delayed for several long months.
He had reasons for that then, but not now.
Vaarh was dead.
At the snow expanse, no one would dare attack him or Alexia after what they had done, and new monsters would not arrive at the Frost Ridge anytime soon.
The monsters that hid in the forests or distant fields were too frightened by the eerie aura emanating from the Frost Ridge. They would not dare to approach these mountains anytime soon.
"Agh..."
Adam exhaled cold air, stretching after a hard battle. His whole body creaked as if it were about to break.
'I'll have to talk to Lone Blaze. I don't know what the hell happened there, but without her, the Highest Bliss would have destroyed me.
'But... First, I have to go back.'
They couldn't summon the fighter jet here or return to the Citadel the same way they came here.
It was unknown where the spatial anomaly that brought them here was now. At best, they would have to spend several hours, and most likely days, waiting for the spatial anomaly to reappear in the same place.
The best solution for them at the moment would be to find a safe place where they could gather their strength and rest so they could move on and return to the Citadel.
Crack.
Alexia leaned against the ice peak, trying to stand on her feet, but she couldn't. She collapsed to the ground.
"SHIT!" Alexia slammed her fist into the ground. "I just have a broken leg! Why the hell can't I even walk!?"
Adam smiled bitterly.
'Isn't that natural with an injury like that? Silvana, do you have any ideas where we can rest? We have to wait at least until her bone heals.'
For some reason, he didn't hear an answer.
"Silvana?"
Concern appeared on Adam's face. Alexia didn't know what was going on either.
Suddenly, a shout rang out in Adam's head:
'Adam! Above!'
Without hesitation, he raised his head only to see a sky full of shadows.
The storm summoned by Vaarh had already dissipated, but even after his death, a threat remained for the two Phantoms in the Primal Lands.
More than a dozen ice wyverns hovered in the sky, casting shadows from their wings onto the snowy expanse.
"W-What...?" Adam gulped as he realized what had happened. "They waited for the battle to end? What cunning bastards. These aren't wyverns, they're pathetic scavengers!"
Regardless of Adam's words, the ice wyverns had come here to get what they wanted most—energy from the two powerful Phantoms.
What's more, Alexia stared intently at the ice wyvern that was the first to head toward them, attacking them in a dive.
She recognized this wyvern.
"Bitch. That's the one! Damn it, Adam, we have to finish it off, or—!"
However, her words had nothing to do with reality.
She and Adam were too exhausted to fight. The ice wyverns were patient predators. They chose the perfect moment to attack the two Phantoms.
The ice wyvern was already in front of Adam, opening its jaw. In a second, everything would be over.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
At the same moment, something strange reflected in Adam's eyes.
The gray fog came out of nowhere, thick and strong, and in a split second took the form of a huge fist.
Crack!
The fog fist slammed into the wyvern's jaw, turning its head and knocking out one fang.
Before the wyvern's eyes could return to normal, a second fist appeared on the left, and then a third from above. Each was attacked with a tiny delay that even Adam would have had trouble keeping up with.
Whoooooooosh.
The fourth fist did not appear from below; instead, there was now a man in warm winter clothes made from the finest hides. His leg, in a swift kick, slammed into the wyvern's jaw, causing an air ring from the speed of the hit.
The impact threw the heavy monster upward as the man's frame shook and he appeared next to Alexia, throwing her over his shoulder.
The man's green eyes, partially covered by his sharp silver hair, stared at Adam.
"Can you run?"
Adam nodded silently.
Without hesitation, the man lunged forward, with such speed that the ice peak Alexia was leaning on was shattered into pieces.
A gust of wind swept past Adam as he turned and tried to keep up with the man's pace.
Even though the man was clearing a path for him, getting rid of the deep snow, the ice peaks, and scaring away the monsters, Adam was struggling to keep up. The man's back was getting farther and farther away, even though he was carrying Alexia!
"Adam, use the ancient energy! What you have left should be enough to escape from these wyverns!"
It was sound advice, and Adam took advantage of it immediately. He became faster, and his legs were filled with strength.
He didn't know how long it would last, but the wyvern's roars finally grew quieter, and the shadow of their wings no longer overtook him.
However, he didn't dare stop. He ran after the man as long as he could.
They left the snow expanse, the Frost Ridge, and even the forest behind, which turned out to be just another obstacle in their path.
"GRRRRROOOOOHHHOOOO!!!"
The ice wyverns continued to hunt them, their roars filling the forest and their wings flitting among the multitude of bare tree branches.
'Shit, shit, shit! How long will this go on!' Adam exclaimed inwardly as he looked ahead.
The man reached the cliff, but did not stop.
All Adam saw was Alexia's outstretched arm and her shocked gaze.
"Wait... Seriously? Where are we jumping to?!"
He turned around, and one glance at the dozen wyverns was enough to change his mind.
"Shit!" Adam gritted his teeth and jumped after the man.
He crashed into the snow-covered slope, rolling down and knocking branches out of the way. Several sharp edges left cuts on his cheeks, but he soon came to a stop.
"Agh...?"
For the first time, he heard silence, but that wasn't what caught his attention.
Ahead, among the thickets at the foot of the hill, was a house on the shore of a lake that flowed into a roaring waterfall.
It was more like a real oasis among the harsh winter lands.
