Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1550: Questions to a dragon

Chapter 1550: Questions to a dragon

Adam and Alexia didn’t know what to think about Vaarh. They had expected anything at the end of the Frost Oasis, but not a dragon monster in his human form that had hatched from an egg in the middle of a shining pond!

However, it was reality, and they had to adapt if they didn’t want Vaarh to tear them to pieces.

Sure, when Vaarh appeared, they assumed that the dragon head was part of his body. But, they couldn’t understand how that was possible.

Right now, there were two of Vaarh standing in front of them, even though his dragon head was long dead, or at least they thought so.

"But..." Alexia’s voice trembled. "Why? Why are you standing before us when your real body is there!"

It was another stupid question. Vaarh’s face showed that his patience was running out.

"Because I was mortally wounded and basically dead. All that remains of my body is my head. However, during the battle, I was lucky enough to fall into the abyss in this part of the Primal Lands, so I had no choice but to use all my options to survive."

He pointed to the dragon head, to its left eye, which was closed.

"As you can see, the left eye is closed, but that’s not quite right. The left eye is gone. I sacrificed it to give birth to the tree. Also, I gave up two of my fangs to make it possible to create a pond and eggs."

Vaarh paused briefly, recalling everything that had happened before continuing:

"Thus, many years, a dark sleep, and countless amounts of energy and deaths of other creatures led me to this state. To be honest, I should have remained in the egg for at least a few more decades, but I simply couldn’t pass up such an opportunity."

Alexia raised an eyebrow.

"Opportunity?"

Vaarh nodded as his gaze grew colder, looking at her like a reaper ready to carry out a sentence.

"Yes. When I kill you two, I will regain my powers. That boost will be enough for me to return to the Lord Level. Is that not clear from my actions and explanations?"

Step.

Adam stepped forward, staring intently at Vaarh.

"So, the Ancient Voice, the rules, trials, and everything else were only necessary to bring monsters and Phantoms to this tree and absorb their life forces? That’s how your new body was created, right?" He asked.

Vaarh glanced at his body, seemingly in agreement with Adam’s words.

Even though he had just emerged from the egg, he was not naked. Light armor made of gray-black metal covered his chest, legs, and arms, allowing him complete freedom of movement while also possessing sharp edges that could themselves be used as weapons in close combat.

In the end, Vaarh nodded deeply.

"Yes. I went through a brutal battle and almost died, then I took advantage of every opportunity that came my way, gathered my patience, and waited."

"But!" Alexia exclaimed. "What would you do if some Lord or Second Rank Phantom came here? Huh?"

She thought this question would put Vaarh in a difficult position, but on the other hand, she saw only a serene expression.

For Vaarh, it was a rhetorical question.

"In that case, I would have died. The Ancient Voice is as strong as I was. If someone much stronger than I wanted to kill me, I would have had no chance. You two are at the K4-Level. You should know this better than most.

"However, higher-level beings do not often attack lower-level beings. There is no point in such victories, and even for those who do not act pragmatically, for those who enjoy battle and bloodshed, it would be foolish."

Vaarh stretched his arm forward as his gaze changed. It was no longer as judicious and wise as before, revealing the bloodthirsty warrior that lurked deep within his heart.

"Victory over a weak opponent will not quench your thirst for blood. So, for decades, no one stronger than you has come here. I think that’s the best proof of my words, isn’t it?"

Alexia and Adam exchanged glances. They understood that Vaarh was right.

There were no insurmountable barriers in this world. The only thing that mattered was how strong the barrier was and how strong the person trying to destroy it was.

If Damien had been here, it would have been all over for Vaarh before Damien even decided to descend into the abyss. Neither the Ancient Voice nor anything else could have saved him.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

A slight tremor came from afar. The monsters that previously could not reach the Frost Oasis now had the opportunity and were rushing here.

Sure, the azure tree and glowing pond were gone, but the whole place was saturated with a large amount of energy.

Adam, Alexia, and even Vaarh were walking treasure chests themselves, considering how much energy they contained.

This meant that there was no more time for talking. Vaarh had to kill them to regain his power. Alexia had to help Adam, and Adam had to find his condition—the Blood of God.

But... Before that, Ada had one last question.

"Why are you telling us all this?" he asked.

Vaarh blinked once, caught off guard.

"Hmm? Why not? When I am asked questions, I prefer to answer and expect the same from others. It’s basic courtesy, nothing more."

He glanced at Adam and Alexia as a gleam flashed across his eyes.

"However, I would be lying if I didn’t say that there is another factor here. You see, I would not have awakened if I were not confident of my victory. Thus, I would not mind telling you all my secrets if it were necessary, for the dead do not speak."

Step.

Vaarh stepped forward as his aura burst forth in a dark blue flame.

"Either way, I’ve shown you enough respect. Now, it’s time to get down to business. If this is the last fight of your life, then show me everything you’ve got!"
