Chapter 141: [141] The Plan

Before the lava could land, Ark immediately jumped to his feet and summoned Jenna, already sending her a mental command before she could even fully materialize.

Just as she was appearing, black ice jutted out of the floor in all directions, forming a jagged dome above their heads.

Splash!

The lava washed over the dome, rolling harmlessly over the surface of it. But although the dome could perfectly defend against the lava, it could only take one fire ball at most...

"Alright, listen up, this is the plan—"

Booom!

A large chunk of the dome was blown right off, a flaming ball embedding itself deep inside it, nearly burning off Olivia’s arm.

She stared at it with wide eyes, then immediately turned to Ark.

"Be quick, we don’t have all day!"

Ark quickly went over the plan he had thought of, and it was just in time, because in the very next second, the whistling of another fireball filled the air.

The ice dome immediately melted away and Ark stepped out of it, raising a black magic staff.

Blue lightning flew out of the staff and raced for the ball, but the ball suddenly dodged the strike, darting to the left.

"Tsk."

But Ark had prepared for it.

He immediately turned to the side and unleashed another bolt of lightning, only that this time, it was not at the ball, but at the spot it would be two seconds later.

Bang!

The flaming ball was blown into chunks of molten rock and debris. But at the same time, more lava descended from the sky—-

Sckkkkk!

Jenna’s ice dome once again came to the rescue, causing the lava to harmlessly slide down and sizzle on the floor.

"Come out!"

Sumo appeared by his left side, inquisitor by his right and Mountain in front of him.

"Make sure the basilisks do not interfere in our fight!" Ark commanded them.

If it was in the past where they had no elemental affinities, then fighting the flying monsters would have been next to impossible.

But now, not only did they have elemental affinities, the lowest level among them was level fifteen!

As his summons charged towards the swarm of basilisks, Ark turned around to glance at his party.

"Are you guys ready?"

Thalia and Olivia had both mounted the salamanders. They nodded with determination burning in their eyes.

This was a boss monster unlike anything they had fought on the volcanic planes, they knew just how difficult the battle would be.

"Then let’s go."

Swooosh!

The salamanders snarled as they blasted past him, racing towards the obsidian giant looming in the distance.

Olivia held tightly to Tai’s neck, already feeling queasy at the speed they were moving at.

The environment was a blur around her, the heat of the volcano felt as though it would melt her skin off, and the gravity tugged at her organs.

She gritted her teeth, her wings pressed against her back as she continued.

"Faster Tai, faster!"

Tai grunted in response, just before moving at an even more alarming rate.

The obsidian giant watched their approach, staring at them like rats trying to evade certain destruction.

The giant was large, it was bigger than the Dreamer’s Epilogue had been, and from the looks of it, several times more dangerous.

The closer they got, the more Olivia felt her heart tingle with excitement and fear.

The monster pointed its palm at her, and then its fist began to rotate, swirling around so fast that its hand became hazy.

She gritted her teeth while smiling.

To think she would charge head first towards such a monster...

"I must be mad!"

BANG!

Maybe it was because she was racing right at it, but this fire ball seemed much bigger than those she had seen in the past.

And yet, Olivia made no move to dodge—

Kenny suddenly dashed to their front, launching Thalia at the projectile. Thalia’s body hardened, turning as black as the night.

She lifted her tail and let out a battle scream as she lashed out at the rock, shattering it into pieces.

"One..." Olivia muttered, feeling sweat stick to her skin like glue.

The second ball of fire was launched, and this time it was Kenny that took the attack, melting the fireball before it could even get close.

"Two..." She smiled. "His crazy plan might actually work!" She thought out loud as she remembered the quick discussion they had prior...

"The giant is going to try to take us out before we come anywhere close to it. Currently, that nasty cannon is its biggest weapon." Ark glanced at the monster.

"We need to find a way to get close, that is the only way we can beat it."

This time, the obsidian giant blasted its fire ball right into the sky. The ball shot up like an arrow, not once reducing in speed, just before it came down like a comet.

Olivia frowned. "Shouldn’t we hit it with ranged attacks? How are we going to dodge those fireballs?"

Ark gave her a look that she could not decipher, just before saying words that sounded like sheer madness. "We won’t dodge them."

He raised his hand, waving five digits in the air. "Five attacks... there will be five attacks before we get to it."

Just as the fire ball came down upon her, Tai’s tail wrapped around her stomach and then he stamped his foot on the floor, slowing his momentum, before launching her right at the fireball.

Olivia wrapped her wings around her body, the ball cutting right past her...

"We cannot dodge the attacks, so five of us will have to take one out."

Vwooosh!

Tai suddenly fired a stream of flames at the rock, shattering it before it could change directions.

Now Olivia was in the air. Beating with her wings was hard, but now that she had been sent high up, the gravity worked in her favour, pulling her down so fast that her figure was a blur of white feathers.

And when she tucked her wings to her sides like a hawk, she became even faster!

"And finally..." Ark pointed at Olivia. "You will deal the very last blow to the monster!"

Olivia’s eyes were narrowed as the heat washed past them, she could see the flaming pit below, and the edge she was meant to land on.

She summoned her axe and suddenly, yellow currents began to surge around her body, concentrating on the weapon.

The monster raised its hand, pointing its smoking cannon right at her approaching figure. But Olivia closed her eyes...

She could not risk acting on impulse and destroying the rock, because that wasn’t her job!

BOOOM!

The sound wave slammed into her first, followed by a wave of heat that burned her skin. But Olivia kept her eyes tightly shut!

"I’m trusting you, Ark!"

Just as the fireball was meters away from her, a nefarious skeleton sprang out of the floor below them like a mole.

He opened his maw wide, and then a light began to glow within it. "Who else would you trust, if not me?"

"Wave of pulverising light."

The light cut through the space between them in a fraction of a second, completely engulfing the flaming rock.

Olivia opened her eyes wide as the debris rushed past her, then she smiled as she was face to face with the obsidian giant.

"Got you, bastard!"

The lighting intensified, making it look as though a storm had descended upon the giant.

"Valkyrie’s Retribution!"

BOOOOM!

Her axe dug right into its skull, slicing off half of its face and sending chunks of blackened rock falling into the pit below.

"Let’s. Fucking. Goooo!" Olivia let out a chuckle, only for the laughter to die in her lips a second later...

As the giant opened its maw, and unleashed a flood of magma right at her face—

"Huh? It... survived?"
