Endless Debt
Chapter 1608 - 110: Origin Tower (2)
"Oh, I remember those people."
The Regent King asked back, "Speaking of which, are they still locked in the dungeon?"
"Of course, they’ve completely lost their minds. To satisfy their inner bloodlust, they even attacked us, their fellow Night Race," Trick’s memory of that hateful period remained sharp as a blade, "It’s hard to imagine that even pure-blood Night Race could be twisted into such a form."
Trick raised his slightly trembling hand, "It was during that bloodthirsty dark era that my sanity was also twisted into this form by Bloodthirsty Syndrome."
During the long era without blood, some of the Night Race were completely twisted by Bloodthirsty Syndrome, turning into mad bloodthirsty monsters, sealed in the dungeon by the other Night Race, while the remaining Night Race struggled to endure their thirst for blood.
After prolonged torment, almost all Night Race members contracted some incurable strange disease, stripped of a piece of sane mind, never to recover.
"Luckily you came."
Trick suddenly locked eyes with the Regent King, "Luckily, you landed on the island that day. I still remember that day, you almost got devoured by us alive."
"Yes, back then I was a Prayer Believer? Or a Condenser?" The Regent King remarked with a smile, "I was really scared to death."
"We are the ones who should have been scared to death," Trick joked, "There hadn’t been a new guest for decades, then suddenly one appeared, a Night Race... with the scent of Serey."
The Regent King smiled silently; it was a genuinely dark moment in his life, surrounded by bloodthirsty crazed monsters, yet before they could extract the blood from him, they realized he was Night Race, a Serey bloodline.
That day, the Regent King was almost hanged on the gallows.
"It’s all over, Trick."
The Regent King patted his shoulder, accompanied by the memories, the attitude between the two eased significantly, like old friends, "Those days are gone, now only the future lies before us."
Trick remained silent, his gaze drifting to the surroundings; he still remembered the former glory here and felt an unresolvable sadness about the current devastation.
"Speaking of which, Regent King, what exactly is your motivation for doing so much for us?" Trick suddenly asked, "Is it merely for immortality? Or to rule over some people?"
Trick spoke while shaking his head, as if denying his own words, "Just such reasons are too dull, don’t you think?"
Without waiting for the Regent King to answer, Trick sat down along the edge of the spire, his legs swinging gently in the air, "When I was young, I also had many ambitions, like just said, wanting to rule something, to become the master of something... looking back now, I only find myself somewhat inexplicable."
Trick glanced up at the Regent King, his tone full of helplessness, "How should I say this... human domination and conquest are for their achievements, ideas, to be remembered through history, but we are different, born immortal, thus domination, conquest, being remembered through history becomes meaningless."
"I have always felt the failure of the Eternal Night Empire cannot be entirely blamed on Serey," Trick continued, "Looking back now, our expansion back then was meaningless, just for more population and territory, to support our pure-blood class, but what use is so many pure-blood Night Race to us?"
"The former Eternal Night Empire was like a blind foolish beast, simply growing, devouring, reproducing, proliferating according to its survival instinct, like a cancer of the world, acting only to maintain its absolute existence, even though it’s already so large, it continues to devour madly just to add a little sense of security to itself."
Trick fell silent, staring into the Regent King’s eyes, speaking softly, "I have a very rebellious conclusion, do you want to hear it?"
The Regent King replied bluntly, "You want to say, the failure of the Eternal Night Empire should be attributed to the Night King, right?"
Trick was stunned for a moment, he didn’t expect the Regent King would think the same, even less that he would actively negate the Night King.
"Don’t be nervous, Trick, just talking, the Night King won’t suddenly emerge to kill you," the Regent King comforted, "Moreover, whether the Night King has any sense of self now is a questionable matter."
"But I agree with your conclusion, the failure of the Eternal Night Empire was indeed rooted in the Night King."
Everything in the Regent King’s current life was granted by the Night King, yet he had no respect for the Night King, filled with ridicule in his words, "The Night King, like his offspring, is weak. No, it should be reversed, because of his weakness, his offspring became such."
"The Night King is too afraid of death, so fear-stricken that only the constant expansion of the Eternal Night Empire can make his existence feel safe," the Regent King continued, "That means the sole reason for the Empire’s existence was to provide the Night King a sense of safety; beyond that, the Eternal Night Empire had no meaning."
"Such a reason for existence is too laughable, too empty."
Trick became increasingly wary, asking, "What exactly do you want to say?"
"What do I want to say? I want to say that I am different from the Night Race, I haven’t inherited that weak blood, likewise, the new Eternal Night Empire I will shape will be entirely different."
The Regent King gazed toward the Butcher’s Pit, imagining that dark yet beautiful future, "We are Night Race, undead Night Race, we can wholeheartedly pour the infinite time into the exploration of the future, becoming a superior existence beyond humans, like the ascension of a species."
Suddenly, the Regent King’s voice stopped, shaking his head and saying, "Forget it, it’s only suitable to speak proudly after a victory in war, now we need action."
"Trick, Fuen dared to launch a total attack so blatantly, he must have his reliance, we absolutely cannot take this lightly."
The Regent King ordered, "Open the dungeon, let those monsters prepare."
Trick stood up; in the blink of an eye, the Regent King quickly shifted from that carefree state into a commanding presence with a murderous aura. In a flash, Trick recalled the Regent King when they first met, standing in fear before his bloodthirsty Night Race... never expected so many years had passed.
"You, along with the other guards, equip the Immortal Armor," the Regent King said, "The main battleground in the upcoming confrontation will likely be within our home territory, we have no retreat."
Trick responded, "Yes."
The Regent King turned around, gazing at the towering spires behind him, rising like long ladders, eventually leaving only the sole High Tower to pierce the clouds.
"Additionally, reinforce protection of the Origin Tower. Once it falls, the Dark Iron Curtain will also collapse."
Trick nodded, well aware of the importance of the Origin Tower and its protection of the Land of Eternal Night; should it topple and crumble, the Iron Curtain that veils sunlight will also fracture.
The Regent King continued, "As for the assistance from the Sect of Crimson Decay and the Gray Trade Association, proceed as previously planned."
After speaking, the Regent King prepared to leave, Trick unaware of his next intentions, but as the Regent King disappeared from view, Trick shouted.
"I think I can admit one thing."
The Regent King turned back curiously, "What?"
Trick mustered a twitching smile.
"You are indeed the Savior of the Night Race."
