Endless Debt

Chapter 1487 - 59: Bloodthirst

The Grudge Bite was so sharp, enveloped in high-intensity ether, that no defense could stop this sword. Once the sword light flashed, the massive heavy iron gate shattered like paper being cut and crumbled heavily onto the ground, bringing with it a series of resounding echoes.

First, there was a dead silence, and then the sound of alarms rose one after another.

The All Secrets Order had extremely tight defenses in this place. Palmer had explored a bit and found no path for Olivia to perform shadow stealth. The three of them were not locksmiths either, and even if they were, the gate had no locks at all.

Thus, Bologue had no choice but to use his most adept skill and knock the gate open with his sword.

"We have to hurry up!"

Bologue shouted, not rushing to step inside, but instead turning to command the surrounding buildings.

Since the alarms had already been triggered, there was nothing worth hiding anymore. Ether invaded the surrounding materials and directly confronted the Aurora Path that permeated the building.

Faced with the Aurora Path, which could forcefully raise a Condenser’s rank, Bologue’s power was insufficient to shake it directly. However, owing to his unique infinite sharpness, Bologue’s ether, like a venomous insect, gnawed through this absolute power, leaving it riddled with holes.

In an instant, the surrounding buildings began to tremble, as if an earthquake was striking the place. Soon, bricks and stones burst forth from the ground, sealing off the original corridors and twisting the spiral stairs. The entire space was forcibly repositioned and altered until its original layout was completely disrupted, transforming into a complex labyrinth.

This way, the Condensers pursuing the alarms would first enter the labyrinth Bologue created. Faced with this familiar yet strange scene, they would likely doubt whether their cognition had been influenced by the Void Spirit School’s secret energy. Even if they didn’t suspect this, Bologue had sealed all paths; this complex labyrinth was enough to delay them for some time.

The three stepped inside, overwhelmed by the scent of blood. This time, even Bologue smelled the intense scent; he wasn’t sure if it was the Blood of Sere within him taking effect.

Inside, there was no light. The darkness engulfed the three, and when Bologue turned to command the shattered gate, reforging it and resealing the exit, the last bit of light was blocked, leaving only absolute darkness.

A cool touch came over their skin. In the darkness, Olivia, out of caution, unfurled her shadow, enveloping the three of them.

Olivia was exceedingly vigilant, and it was this absolute wariness that had allowed her to survive alone for so long.

In the silence of the darkness, even Palmer sensed the smell of blood. It was so overwhelming that Palmer held his breath, covering his nose with a hint of disgust in his eyes.

Recalling the historical photos he had seen within his family, Palmer braced himself, hoping the gruesome images wouldn’t disturb his mind.

Their footsteps were quick, taking less than half a minute to traverse the long corridor. Suddenly, the sound of their footsteps became much louder, and faint echoes could be heard around them.

Palmer suddenly stopped the two, his vision obstructed by the absolute darkness, but the air still lingered within the enclosed room. Thus, when Palmer closed his eyes, he saw it.

They were at the edge of a huge space, as large as a plaza. Invisible birds continued to explore, conversing and exchanging information, which ultimately converged to the origin of power.

Palmer listened to the deep, overlapping breaths—a multitude of them. The subtle currents gathered to become laments and sighs, directly striking the depths of Palmer’s mind.

How many were there? Thousands? Or tens of thousands?

The breaths were too numerous and chaotic for Palmer to estimate the number of people in such a short time. More importantly, to process this vast array of air currents, Palmer focused all his attention on them, completely unaware of the nearing threat.

"Watch out!"

Olivia exclaimed as the shadow violently swirled around her.

The absolute darkness impeded their vision and movement, but it greatly enhanced Olivia’s power. In an instant, the shadow stirred, and the invisible shadows quickly solidified into malleable entities, transforming into curved swords and blades that hacked wildly toward the dark side, unleashing hundreds of lethal slashes in the blink of an eye.

Palmer regained his senses amidst the cry of alarm, and then he sensed the air currents surrounding him. These currents were so subtle that the opponent must have held their breath, but the friction when their limbs moved exposed their positions.

"Enemy attack!"

Palmer signaled Bologue and hurled a dagger, its metal gleaming to reveal the enemy’s positions.

The gleam flashed across and illuminated several hideous and terrifying faces. The moment the three had stepped into the darkness, they had already been discovered by the guards lurking there.

The Night Race had approached and surrounded them silently, their sharp claws and blades rushing toward their throats.

Unfortunately, they were too slow.

The moment they moved, Olivia had already smelled the putrid, intense scent of blood. In the fleeting light, the shadow blade shot up like a mantis’s foreclaw, precisely and swiftly severing one Night Race member’s leg.
