Ember Dragon

Chapter 729: Father of Frost

  • Next Chapter

Under the terrifying might of the dragon, the abyssal drake roared in panic and came to a sudden halt. The frost giant on its back, dazed, was thrown violently to the ground.

Only then did Kremron snap out of it. He rose awkwardly, raised his massive warhammer, his expression ferocious and terrifying.

"Who?! Who dares challenge the mighty Kremron?! I’ll tear you to shreds in the freezing wind!"

But the only answer was the roar of wind as dragon wings tore through the air, casting massive shadows over hundreds of demons—including Kremron.

The demons looked up in frustration, staring at the sky. But fear and panic instantly replaced their wrath on those hideous, twisted faces. Chaos erupted among the demonic ranks.

"What is that?!"

"A dragon! It’s a dragon!"

"Great Abyss... what a massive dragon!"

A titanic red dragon hovered above them, gazing down with blazing golden eyes. Its broad wings blocked the sky, and the dragon crystal on its chest radiated blinding light, like a sun rising over Hell.

"Damn those hellspawn... they’ve got a helper like this?!"

Kremron stared at the red dragon, face darkening. The hand gripping his warhammer trembled slightly.

As a frost giant who had fought for millennia, he feared no dragon. In Kremron’s eyes, giants were the noblest, strongest race. He had even slain multiple gold and silver dragons that dared block the Abyssal legions.

But this red dragon... was completely different from any he’d ever seen.

The strongest dragon Kremron had ever faced was an ancient gold dragon. Their battle had lasted three days and nights. Only by exhausting every trick had he finally smashed its wise, bearded head with his warhammer.

Even that ancient gold dragon had been less than 40 meters long—already a giant among dragons.

But this red dragon—Kremron estimated—was over 60 meters in length. Its body was built not only with power but with a majestic, streamlined grace.

In comparison, even an ancient gold dragon looked like a juvenile—there was simply no comparison.

A troublesome enemy.

One he probably couldn’t defeat.

After observing for a moment, Kremron came to that conclusion.

Though he had fought across the Abyss for years, Kremron was no mindless brute. He had a clear understanding of his strength.

And for some reason, facing this red dragon made his entire body tremble with uncontrollable fear.

He raised his warhammer and said sternly, "The Blood War is the eternal battlefield of devils and demons. Red dragon, you do not belong here!

Those hellspawn are good at twisting words, but if you leave Avernus now, we won’t pursue you. If you insist on standing against the Abyssal legion—then you are declaring war on Lord Kostchtchie!"

The red dragon flapped its wings and chuckled carelessly. "Kostchtchie? Who’s that?"

Kremron exploded in fury. He seemed to sense the mockery in the dragon’s words and pointed skyward, cursing, "Ignorant reptile!

Lord Kostchtchie is the ruler of the 23rd Layer of the Abyss, the mighty Wrathful Lord, King of the Frost Giants! Stand against him, and your only fate is death!

He will mount your head in his palace, turn your spine into a weapon, and stitch your wing membranes into a cloak!"

But after his tirade, a strange feeling crept over Kremron.

Why couldn’t he control his emotions in front of this red dragon? Why did he instinctively feel fear?

It was almost like... facing his natural enemy.

Realizing this, Kremron didn’t dare delay. He tapped into the Abyssal power within and tried to call out to his master—the mighty Wrathful Lord—for aid. A ghostly light flickered in his murky eyes.

"Frost giants?" Cassius lowered his head and grinned viciously. "What a coincidence. A few years ago, I wiped out a frost giant tribe—killed hundreds of them. I think they were called Eternal Frost?"

Upon hearing the name "Eternal Frost," Kremron’s expression changed drastically. Veins bulged on his forehead as uncontrollable rage burst from his eyes. His entire body trembled.

This wasn’t just hostility—it was racial hatred, a curse engraved in every frost giant’s soul, even demonic corruption couldn’t erase it.

—It was the curse of Solrem, the slumbering god of the frost giants.

"It was you! You’re the one who destroyed the Eternal Frost Tribe—the Ember Emperor, Bane of Frost Giants—Cassius!

You... you will be cursed for eternity! You will die by a frost giant’s hand!"

The fear of a natural predator and the hatred of a racial enemy mingled in Kremron’s heart. He shook, sweat dripping from his hands gripping the warhammer.

"That’s Cassius?!"

"Kill him! He’s our common enemy!"

"What a terrifying being!"

The other frost giant cavalry turned pale at the name. Some even fainted on the spot.

"Rambling nonsense already... is this the effect of the [Frost Giant Slayer] trait?"

Cassius watched Kremron’s shifting expression with great interest.

After wiping out the Eternal Frost Tribe, he hadn’t used [Frost Giant Slayer] much—there were barely any frost giants left on Fianso.

Those who survived had either become castrated imperial slaves who died from labor or were turned into alchemical materials by mages.

"Heh. Frost giants corrupted by the Abyss... how nostalgic. Truly—"

Cassius licked his lips. Light flickered in his vertical pupils as he stared at the demon frost giant like prey. "A fine specimen."

"No—dodge it, now!" Feeling the immense pressure, Kremron shouted in alarm.

But before the words left his mouth, the red dragon folded his wings and blasted off in a fiery burst, falling from the sky like a comet.

With a deafening sonic boom and crushing wind pressure, Cassius’ mountain-sized body descended upon the demon horde. Before even touching down, the blazing winds incinerated scores of demons.

"Boom!"

The earth shook. Rocks flew. Smoke billowed skyward. Pillars of magma erupted from the ground.

A hundred-meter-wide crater formed. Over ten thousand demons were flattened and consumed by magma, leaving only foul black smoke.

As the dust cleared, the red dragon’s massive form emerged. His serpentine tail swept the ground, launching abyssal beasts into the air. They landed in bloody, shattered heaps, their frost giant riders thrown off.

"Attack! No matter how strong it is, it can’t kill all the demons!" Kremron climbed up and roared hoarsely.

"Tear it apart!"

"For the Will of the Abyss!"

Instantly, hundreds of thousands of demons surged forward like a mottled tide, aiming to engulf the colossal beast.

Demons piled atop one another, forming a hundred-meter-wide black sphere of flesh and blood that trapped the red dragon within.

But soon, beams of light burst through the demon mass, burning outer demons into ash amid thick smoke.

"Awooo—"

Then dozens, hundreds of beams shot out from within the sphere. Thousands of demons died screaming.

The red dragon trapped inside howled skyward, spread his wings, and unleashed radiant light like a living sun god.

Amid shrieks and sizzling flesh, the black sphere collapsed, becoming thousands of burning demons.

Cassius flapped his wings, unleashing scorching wind across the land. Fire tornadoes rose around him, devouring scattered demons like writhing serpents.

In mere moments, tens of thousands of demons turned to smoke, vanishing from Avernus.

"Don’t panic! He’s huge—he must be slow! Use large prey tactics to bring him down!" Kremron shouted.

A dozen demon frost giants, eyes burning with hate, surrounded Cassius with spears and warhammers.

They struck at his vital spots.

But what met them were claws that ripped through space and a tail that plowed the earth.

With a single whistle, his claw became a blur and swept through their massive bodies at terrifying speed.

Tearing sounds echoed as the giants’ bodies were neatly sliced open, blood gushing from clean wounds.

"Aim for his hind legs!" a frost giant yelled.

But Cassius’ powerful tail swept across, making the earth tremble and even space ripple and crack.

"BOOM—"

The tail struck a frost giant, twisting its body into a bloody, mangled ragdoll that burst into a spray of blood in midair.

Their abyssal blood sizzled on the ground, burning pits into the earth.

During all this, Cassius used no spells, no supernatural abilities. He even deactivated his [Frost Giant Slayer] trait.

This was pure, fundamental suppression by raw power—nothing more.

Cassius wasn’t so much fighting as he was hunting. He relished the thrill of the kill.

"Is this all Kostchtchie’s followers are capable of?" Cassius shook his head with disappointment. "If that’s the case, your so-called Wrathful Lord won’t satisfy me either."

The sky was choked with sulfur smoke. The scorched earth cracked like a spider’s web. Lava flowed like veins. Everywhere, demon corpses turned to smoke.

Cassius stood amidst the stench of death. His vast silhouette loomed like a god of death.

"That’s... Lord Bel’s ally?"

"No wonder he killed Zariel... we must never provoke him!"

Across the lava, in the devil camp, even their allies felt deep awe and terror.

Gazing at the ruined battlefield and mountains of demon corpses, they were sincerely grateful that this red dragon—this war machine—was on their side.

Power determines all.

Before such might, even if he were a goblin, the devils would still respect him from the depths of their hearts.

Meanwhile, faced with his army’s destruction and the death of his kin, Kremron lost all reason. His face twisted as he began turning into a mad Abyssal demon.

"You dare—you dare insult Lord Kostchtchie?! Damn lizard! Die!"

Kremron roared and swung his hammer. The runes on it glowed icy blue as bitter cold radiated out.

A blizzard storm burst from him, filled with chaos-charged shards of ice like razor blades.

Then, a freezing white beam pierced through space, aimed at Cassius’ heart.

Cassius folded his wings as a shield. The beam struck, covering them in frost that began to spread.

The red dragon calmly felt the icy sting and analyzed its nature. "Divine frost from Solrem... and chaos from the Abyss. Fascinating."

Kremron glared at him with hatred, growling, "Tremble, lizard! This power was gifted to me by Lord Kostchtchie! You’ll become an ice sculpture—another trophy for the Iron Glacier!"

Cassius looked up with a strange expression. "So... you’re a close aide to that demon lord?"

"What do you mean?" Kremron instinctively stepped back, then sneered. "I’ve fought beside Lord Kostchtchie for a thousand years! If you kill me, you’ll die too!"

"Good. I was just wondering—" Cassius advanced step by step. He spread his wings, shaking off the frost in a burst of force. Ice shards flew everywhere.

"Th-this is..."

Kremron felt a crushing pressure descend. He couldn’t move. The red dragon’s form seemed to grow ever more massive and terrifying.

Terror consumed him. Even his Abyss-corrupted heart pounded wildly.

This red dragon hadn’t even been using his full strength!

It was just a hunt. He was toying with us!

Cassius stood before Kremron and smiled. "Let’s see just how far your Wrathful Lord’s wrath can go."
