Chapter 3017: Reason for the Adventure

Crimson Frenzy.

What lay beneath Fu Qian's Glove was, of course, the power of this curse.

During his last visit to the Bone Burial Ground, the Dragon King had been so moved that they had specially shared half of it with him.

Therefore, besides being a walking incarnation of Calamity, in theory, he only needed to blink right now to spread this purest curse from a Deity into the world.

In short, it gave off a very evil-god vibe.

"This is..."

And Chaumont once again proved his extensive knowledge.

Even though it had been restrained until only a wisp of an Imprint remained, he had still recognized it at a glance.

His sleepy eyes turned sharper than ever before. Although he remained seated, he was a hair's breadth away from taking a combat stance.

It was completely understandable. Anyone could tell this trip was a Hongmen banquet for Professor Fu.

And the guest of honor had shown up carrying something like this?

No matter how you looked at it, he seemed like a man packing explosives, ready to detonate at the slightest disagreement. Moreover, these explosives looked incredibly pure.

"Crimson Frenzy, and a very unusual flavor at that."

Fu Qian didn't feign humility. With a flip of his arm, he indicated that the goods on him were far superior to the garbage floating around out there.

"Indeed... very unusual."

He didn't refute the claim. But as His Excellency Chaumont looked over, his gaze held the faint weariness of a man who couldn't keep up with the times.

Unless he really was planning a terrorist attack, was this kind of "unusual" a good thing?

He was obviously the one being cursed, wasn't he? Even if he did seem to be suppressing it quite well.

"I've never seen it at this level... At the very least, I don't think I'd be immune to it."

However, a relaxed demeanor was truly contagious. Even though Fu Qian's motives had grown even more suspicious, Professor Fu's boundless confidence actually caused Chaumont to relax a little.

Not only did he continue to evaluate the curse, but he even frankly admitted that it frightened him.

"I think so, too."

As a core member among the core members of the Night Watchers, Chaumont admitting this somewhat diminished his own prestige. Fortunately, Fu Qian remained as honest as ever, nodding along to help diminish it even further.

This old man probably really couldn't withstand it.

Or to put it another way, how many Night Watchers here at the Birthday Party could?

Yes, the gap in purity was just that exaggerated.

To Fu Qian, the difference between the portion on his body right now and the one he had seen back in Eldest Miss Wen's Safe House was almost like the gap between a God and a mortal.

Even though the latter could still be used to threaten Mid Tier combatants, and indeed had threatened them.

But if Old Man Chaumont were to face the latter, he could probably swallow it raw without suffering any short-term effects.

As for why there was such a gap?

Quantitative change leading to qualitative change—a frequently heard phrase—was Fu Qian's most direct sensation.

As a widely circulated curse, the adaptability of Crimson Frenzy felt surprisingly flexible.

To put it specifically: the flavor was uniform, but it had corresponding concentrations tailored to different Ranks.

The difference in concentration was not just double or triple, but exponential. It was no smaller than the gap from the top to the bottom of a Godhood Sequence. And ultimately, because of this exaggerated gap, it truly exhibited a Sublimation similar to progressing from the bottom to the top of that sequence.

And His Excellency Chaumont's fear stemmed from the fact that a curse at the level of a "God" had descended before him at this very moment.

...

"To be able to suppress the curse to this degree is indeed astonishing. Professor Fu truly lives up to his name... However, I'm still curious—what does this have to do with what we were just discussing?"

It was obvious that Chaumont was biting back other questions.

In the end, while marveling at Professor Fu's methods, he refrained from asking where he had acquired such pure goods. Instead, he steered the topic back to Old Man Logan, still demanding to know why Fu Qian knew about one Qi transforms into the Three Pure Ones.

"Because I once saw a similar scene there—it even looked very similar to how it came alive."

Fu Qian answered fluently, his gaze falling onto his arm with pointed significance.

"I understand. You're searching for a way to lift Crimson Frenzy? And because you saw blood crawling out of a body in the Unseen Hill, you felt there might be a connection, which is why you entered it?"

His Excellency Chaumont's imagination certainly didn't disappoint, instantly stringing the information together.

And using "to lift the curse" as an excuse was undeniably compelling.

So much so that any crazy behavior seemed understandable, such as cooperating with those locals.

"Not just blood, but bones, too."

Fu Qian remained noncommittal, simply continuing to prove that he had indeed witnessed certain things.

"Interesting. Although I did have similar thoughts when I saw that scene back then... in all fairness, that thing didn't carry a trace of a curse's scent. Is Professor Fu overthinking things?"

Sighing softly, Chaumont appeared completely convinced that Fu Qian had witnessed a similar scene.

Although he still didn't quite agree with the man's logic.

The reason was simple: it didn't "smell" like it.

Was this the confidence derived from Transcendent Perception? How enviable.

Although it sounded like subjective judgment, Fu Qian didn't refute him, because it really wasn't that similar.

He had gone in and out of the Unseen Hill several times himself. Setting aside the fact that the place was theoretically akin to Ji Feng's mental world, after wandering through so many spots within it, he truly hadn't caught a single whiff of Crimson Frenzy.

The "blood man" that had struggled its way out of Old Man Logan's body seemed more like it was just coincidentally matching the Scarlet Angel's look.

As for why, despite the fact that great minds think alike, he didn't hesitate to expose his own secret and bring this up on his own accord?

That was simple, too. Chaumont was a high-ranking member of the Night Watchers who seemingly knew quite a bit about the Unseen Hill; how could he let slip such an excellent person to consult? As it was a highly mysterious location, Fu Qian had always been curious about the Night Watchers' understanding of the Unseen Hill.

"Does that even need to be said? I'm still carrying this on me."

Faced with Chaumont's rhetorical question, Fu Qian not only refrained from arguing back, but even raised his arm, his gaze faintly carrying a hint of pity for the elderly.

It made perfect sense... He was still afflicted with Crimson Frenzy, which obviously meant that his adventure hadn't yielded any results.

Old Man Chaumont, who seemed accustomed to winning through his sheer breadth of knowledge, wasn't quite used to this kind of simple logical progression. Following Fu Qian's words, he fell into a stiff silence for a moment.

"So, if it isn't Crimson Frenzy, what does Professor Fu think caused that separation of blood and bone?"

However, it was obviously inconvenient to drag out a private chat for too long. He quickly spoke up on his own, asking about the crux of the issue—hm?

But before Fu Qian could answer, Chaumont seemed to notice something and tapped the table.

...

The private chat had been interrupted?

The scene before him hadn't changed much, but Fu Qian still knew that their special communication had been cut off.

At the same time, faint footsteps sounded outside the door again—Chief Yuan? A glance over revealed it was none other than Yuan Shan, who had left to take care of Henry not long ago.
