"What’s wrong?" Mabel Quinn asked in confusion.

So Kyle Kinston told Mabel Quinn, one by one, how he’d discovered that those surveillance videos had been tampered with, and how he’d gone to question Old Master Mei about it.

"If Father learns anything about Mother, he’ll definitely want to go see her. But I’ve looked into it—Mother really does have a mental illness, and it should have started after she separated from Father back then. It’s become a chronic condition and hasn’t been cured all these years. If they really meet, whether Father’s condition will get better or worse, no one can say for sure," Kyle said.

Mabel’s heart suddenly sank. Her mother... had gone insane? And she’d been insane... for all these years?

"Also, if Father finds out that Mother lost her mind because of him, I’m afraid it’ll be another huge blow to him," he added. "It might be better to watch how things develop first, then decide whether to tell your father, or how to tell your father."

Mabel thought for a moment, then nodded. "Mm, we’ll do as you say. But..." She took a deep breath. "I want to see my mother as soon as possible!"

At that moment, her heart was filled with an indescribable mix of anxiety and anticipation.

Kyle said, "Of course. I’ll go with you to the Landon Family, but it’s almost dinnertime now. Let’s eat first and then head over."

When the two of them came out of the study, the servants had pretty much finished preparing dinner. But Mabel was completely absentminded while eating; she didn’t even pick up any food with her chopsticks before putting them in her mouth, which made the two little ones stare at her in confusion. Little Harper Kinston couldn’t help blurting out, "Mommy, silly," then grabbed her child chopsticks to demonstrate the proper way to use them for Mabel.

Even Levi Harris looked at Mabel as if he suspected she might have bumped her head or something and gone a bit silly too.

Mabel felt utterly embarrassed. When they finally finished the meal, she asked Amelia Foster to keep an extra eye on the two kids, then said to Levi, "In a while, Uncle and Auntie won’t be home—we have to go out to take care of something. You need to take good care of Nuan Nuan, okay?" Although Levi was still young, in Mabel’s eyes he simply didn’t like to talk, was a bit withdrawn and not very social, but he was actually much more sensible and steadier than most children his age.

Before Levi could say anything, little Harper had already thumped her tiny chest and declared, "Nuan Nuan will take care of Levi. Nuan Nuan will do homework with Levi."

The "homework" she mentioned was naturally the assignments given by their kindergarten teacher.

Levi said, "I’ll do my homework with Nuan Nuan."

Mabel patted Levi’s small head. "Levi, you’re a good kid."

A good kid... Levi blinked in slight confusion. Was he? It seemed no one had ever told him he was a good kid before... But he liked hearing it. At the very least, he... wanted to be a good kid in front of Auntie Qin and Uncle Jun, and in front of Nuan Nuan.

Mabel and Kyle left the house, got in the car, and headed for the Landon Family.

In the car, Mabel finally asked, "Why did you start looking into the Landon Family?"

"Because the accident happened right after Daniel Harris left the Landon Family. So I started wondering if the ’badge’ Daniel mentioned might be connected to the Landon Family, and that’s why I went to investigate them," Kyle said.
