Chapter 134: Chapter 126: I Want Your Money, and Your Life

Thursday morning. Three and a half days until the apocalypse.

Yu Dong answered a call from an unknown number. It was Officer Wang.

"I’ve bled the tiger. The money is in warehouse A-30 at Huangyang Port. The key is at your door."

Yu Dong scrambled out of his dorm bed, listening to the call as he opened the door. On the doorstep, he found an envelope with a key inside.

"Be careful when you spend the money... I’m about to go after the tiger. Don’t get too cocky before I’ve taken him down."

"Right..." At that moment, Yu Dong wanted to tell Officer Wang not to bother. It was useless. In three days, none of this would matter.

Three days wasn’t enough time to take down a big tiger that had been entrenched in Yanhai City for so many years.

But he had no reason, nor any confidence he could persuade Officer Wang. The officer already harbored a deep-seated animosity toward Yin Shuangyang.

"Take care, Officer Wang. See you in three days."

"No time. You have money now, don’t do anything stupid. Hanging up!"

The money had arrived. Yu Dong gathered a few of his roommates to go get it with him.

But as they were about to leave, Yu Dong thought of something...

"Xufeng, you go separately from the rest of us."

...

After hanging up, Wang Dingbei promptly tossed the SIM card.

Then he swapped in his own card and called his former superior.

"Ma, it’s time to hunt the tiger!"

With that, the detective squad, which had been laying the groundwork for three days, sprang into action!

Two of Yin Shuangyang’s confidants, who handled his money, were apprehended the moment they left their homes that morning. They were immediately put under intense interrogation. Investigators confronted them with ironclad evidence of their crimes, forcing them to implicate Yin Shuangyang.

Meanwhile, several of his "protective umbrellas" who had already been identified by the investigation were intercepted by swift-acting disciplinary officials. Their legs gave out on the spot, and they had to be carried away.

Finally, Wang Dingbei, leading a team of police officers, accountants, and auditors, strode directly through the main entrance of the Shuangyang Group.

Wang Dingbei stood in Yin Shuangyang’s chairman’s office. He stared at the richest man in Yanhai City, Yin Shuangyang, the architect of a financial empire. This was the same man who had once gotten him transferred from the detective squad with a single word.

"Alright, let’s audit President Yin’s books. See if they match the information we have."

Wang Dingbei’s police uniform was neat and clean today, and he stood ramrod straight.

As soon as the ten million was secured, Wang Dingbei moved quickly, catching Yin Shuangyang completely off guard. He aimed to take down Yin’s network, both above and below him, all at once to solidify the case.

In the brown leather chair, Yin Shuangyang rested his hands on the desk, fingers lightly intertwined. At forty-four, he showed no signs of a middle-aged paunch.

His face was lean with prominent cheekbones, his eyes fierce and his eyebrows sharp. The man radiated an intense energy.

He watched the swift and decisive Wang Dingbei, his expression dark and his gaze icy.

Seeing the situation, he knew. ’The untraceable blackmailer... it had to be one of Wang Dingbei’s people. Only a professional like him could operate without leaving a single trace. Wang Dingbei planned to move on me the moment the money was paid.’

"Wang Dingbei, you took my ten million. Isn’t that enough?" Yin Shuangyang said, his face devoid of expression.

"Ten million? I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"You don’t play by the rules. That’s why you’ll be stuck at the bottom your whole life, never able to climb up..."

"Play by the rules? In all your years, have you ever played by the rules of a fair market? You, who used money to trample over the rules on your way to the top, are talking to me about rules today? Yin Shuangyang, do you even have the right?"

"Heh... You’re the first person to take my money and still dare to bite me... What is it you really want?"

Wang Dingbei gave a cold laugh, leaned close to Yin Shuangyang’s ear, and said in a voice only the two of them could hear:

"I want your money, and I want your life."

Wang Dingbei looked down at Yin Shuangyang, still seated in his leather chair. He was going to crush this behemoth in one fell swoop!

He wouldn’t give him a single moment to breathe!

Otherwise, if he failed to eliminate him, both he and those two students... would be in danger.

Yin Shuangyang was a ruthless man.

When you hunt a tiger, you hunt to kill.

Yin Shuangyang looked at the people before him, scoffed, and clapped his hands.

Instantly, a large number of men in black suits carrying black briefcases rushed in from outside, completely surrounding the police and all the auditors. Wang Dingbei’s hand went to the inside of his jacket.

"Yin Shuangyang, you’d better think carefully about what you’re doing..."

Yin Shuangyang rose from his chair, put his hands in his pockets, and walked to the center of his large office.

"Don’t be nervous, Officer Wang. Didn’t you want to audit my books? These people are all here to cooperate with your audit. The Shuangyang Group is not only the top taxpayer in Yanhai City, but also a model of transparent accounting. Our books are used as examples for others. Feel free to check."

The men in suits all took laptops out of their bags and began working on the spot.

Then, a team of over a dozen lawyers entered from outside.

"Hello. On behalf of our client, Mr. Yin Shuangyang, our law firm will be supervising the legality and professionalism of this audit."

Everything unfolded as if it had been perfectly rehearsed.

Wang Dingbei’s eyebrow twitched. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.

"Officer Wang, bad news! The two confidants we arrested took poison! They were dead before the ambulance arrived..."

Wang Dingbei’s face darkened as he looked at Yin Shuangyang.

"You think killing two men stops my investigation? Your ’protective umbrellas’... I doubt they’re as loyal as your underlings."

’As long as the people in those ledgers confess, I can solidify the case against Yin Shuangyang and take him into custody immediately. After that, this will be out of his hands...’

BEEP BEEP BEEP~

Wang Dingbei’s phone rang again.

"Officer Wang, the higher-ups took the people away... They’ve taken over the case. We can’t investigate anymore."

At that moment, Yin Shuangyang was watching Wang Dingbei with a smirk.

"Officer Wang... you didn’t really think I’d entrust my life to a mere ten million, did you?"

The color drained from Wang Dingbei’s face. He had been too slow...

He had given Yin Shuangyang time to react. While preparing the ten million, Yin had also planned his countermoves, his influence even reaching the higher-ups...

As cunning as a wolf.

Wang Dingbei had demanded ten million with no intention of letting Yin Shuangyang go. And Yin Shuangyang had never intended to settle the matter with just ten million.

The two old wolves had each kept an ace up their sleeve.

"Hmph. So what if you’ve applied a million patches? I have your massive ledgers. Do you really think you can escape this time?"

The ledgers implicated a huge number of people. Yin Shuangyang couldn’t possibly placate every single one of them. It would just take Wang Dingbei a little more time.

"But at least you can’t arrest me right now, can you?"

Yin Shuangyang showed no trace of fear, his eyes filled with malice.

"If you want to come after me, there’s a price to pay... Officer Wang, you didn’t think you’d hidden those two students very well, did you? My money... you might have the life to take it... but not necessarily the life to spend it."

BANG!

Wang Dingbei slammed Yin Shuangyang against the wall, his eyes blazing with fury:

"Yin Shuangyang! What did you order your men to do!? Call them back right now!"

Behind them, Yin Shuangyang’s men stood up and turned to look at Wang Dingbei.

Yin Shuangyang smiled and waved a hand. "Continue assisting the officers with the audit. Officer Wang and I are just playing a game."

Then, he whispered in Wang Dingbei’s ear:

"Officer Wang, I want to play a game... You always fancy yourself an incarnation of justice, looking down on all of us ’rich people’ from your moral high ground. You thought you were skilled enough to maintain a perfect balance, to find that harmonious gray line between black and white. But this time... you miscalculated."

"I want to see... in your eyes, what’s more important? Catching me, or saving the lives of two students?"

"Make your choice. Let’s see if you’re fighting for so-called ’Justice’ or for true ’Goodness’."

Just then, Wang Dingbei’s phone rang again. The screen showed Yu Dong’s number.

Fine beads of sweat broke out on Wang Dingbei’s forehead.

"Go on, Officer Wang. Answer it."

Yin Shuangyang’s smile was that of a predator toying with its prey.
