Earth's Greatest Magus
Chapter 3102: Inevitable
Within the hour, the battle had already begun.
The three small vessels had barely reached the edge of the grassland before the first wave of enemies appeared. Scattered creatures and lesser infected rushed toward them from the tall grass, their corrupted bodies twisted by the Scourge. The dwarves met them without slowing, their weapons flashing as they tore through the first wave and cleared a path through the grassland.
But the scattered enemies were only the beginning.
The first true elite group arrived soon after.
Riders poured out from the tall grass in a wide, coordinated crescent, their massive tiger mounts roaring as they charged. Purple veins pulsed beneath the riders’ corrupted skin, while their eyes burned with the dull light of infection.
The dwarves immediately tightened their formation.
Hammers and axes crashed against corrupted flesh as the first riders slammed into their defensive line. The two High Elves attacked from behind, arcs of lightning flashing across the battlefield and striking the incoming riders. Each bolt tore through the charging formation, leaving scorched bodies and broken mounts in its wake.
But for every rider that fell, two more surged forward to fill the gap.
The battle quickly collapsed into a grinding, brutal struggle across the open grassland. The dwarves fought shoulder to shoulder, holding their formation together as the enemy repeatedly crashed against them. The ground became churned with dirt, blood, and pieces of corrupted flesh as neither side gave the other room to breathe.
Durnok was the first to recognize the infected Three-Cosmos cultivator.
His expression changed the moment he sensed the man’s aura.
"That’s another one of the twenty-four Grassland Tribe leaders," Durnok said grimly. "Kharvos, War Chief of the Fire Fang Tribe."
The name immediately drew attention from the others. Even in their current situation, the significance was clear. These were not random infected warriors. The Scourge had managed to corrupt some of the most powerful leaders of the Crimson Steppes.
Unfortunately, before they could finish Kharvos, Emery’s Divine Sense suddenly detected another elite tribe force approaching.
Thousands of riders were charging toward them from another direction, their combined presence rapidly closing in.
"Go..." Emery said, already stepping forward. "I will hold him down."
The others hesitated for only a moment before following his command.
During the battle, their three vessels were eventually torn apart, leaving the group without any means of transportation. The old dwarf Durnok clenched his fists as he looked at the surrounding chaos.
He unleashed his full power.
Earth Law erupted beneath his feet, causing the grassland to tremble as enormous amounts of earth and stone surged upward. The ground split apart, and a massive stone construct began taking shape.
Within moments, a colossal stone golem more than a hundred meters long emerged from the earth. Its body was formed from thick layers of rock, shaped like a gigantic serpent or stone wyrm rather than a traditional humanoid golem. It slithered forward with terrifying speed, its massive body tearing through the grassland and crushing everything in its path.
"Get on!"
The dwarves immediately climbed onto its back.
The massive stone beast surged forward, carrying the entire group as it plowed straight through the surrounding riders. Its enormous body smashed aside the infected warriors, while its heavy stone coils swept across the grassland and broke apart their formations.
Behind them, Emery was still fighting Kharvos.
The infected tribe leader was much harder to deal with than the previous Three-Cosmos opponents they had encountered. His cultivation had reached at least the Second Circle of the Three-Cosmos realm, and his corrupted body possessed an extraordinary resilience that allowed him to endure attacks that would have crippled most cultivators.
Emery did not hesitate.
He unleashed his full power.
His Primal Form erupted around him, primal force surging through every part of his body as his physical strength climbed to an overwhelming level.
Kharvos charged.
Emery met him head-on, using his overwhelming raw power to suppress the tribe leader. Every clash sent violent shockwaves across the grassland, forcing Kharvos back step by step.
When the tribe leader finally collapsed, Emery immediately used Rift Step.
Space twisted around him, and his figure disappeared from the battlefield, reappearing on top the stone golem a moment later.
There was still no time to rest.
More battles followed.
More elite riders appeared, and among them were more Three-Cosmos powerhouses. The swarm of infected warriors behind them continued to grow larger as every battle attracted more enemies, turning the pursuit into a massive moving battlefield across the Crimson Steppes.
Emery tried everything he could to keep the group moving.
They changed directions whenever possible, avoided larger forces when his clones detected them early enough, and fought only when there was no other choice. But with so many enemies closing in from every direction, even their careful strategy could not prevent losses forever.
Casualties began to happen.
Some dwarves were caught off guard others became careless after hours of continuous fighting. A few chose to stay behind and sacrifice themselves, buying the rest of the group precious seconds to escape.
One by one, the numbers began to shrink.
Through it all, Soltz remained weak.
He never fully recovered from the strange attack inside the Zero Black Crevice.
The group continued forward.
Then, after another desperate stretch of fighting, one of the scouts suddenly shouted.
"We’re almost there!!"
They had finally reached the border of the region, and when the group arrived at the edge of the shore and looked out across the endless stretch of deep blue ocean, relief immediately spread through the exhausted dwarves.
Emery, however, did not share their relief, as his expression gradually turned cold when his Divine Sense picked up the worst possible development.
A terrifying presence was rushing toward them from behind at extreme speed.
A Supreme had finally joined the pursuit.
The massive stone wyrm began to break apart as they crossed the border of the Crimson Steppes, forcing everyone to flew across the sea.
Most of the enormous swarm could no longer follow them into the ocean, but hundreds of infected riders still managed to continue the pursuit, accompanied by dozens of Grand Magus and five Three-Cosmos powerhouses, while the terrifying presence of the Supreme rapidly followed behind them.
There was no difference between the grassland and the sea as far as the Scourge was concerned; they had no intention of giving up the hunt simply because their prey had crossed into another region.
Emery’s expression grew increasingly grim as he looked toward the vast ocean ahead, knowing that the arrival of the Supreme had changed everything. Even after reaching the border, they still had at least three days of travel before reaching their destination, and he could already feel that the Supreme would soon catch up and block their path.
Then Emery sensed another problem.
Compared with the chaotic Crimson Steppes, the ocean appeared remarkably calm on the surface, with only gentle waves stretching toward the distant horizon, but beneath those seemingly peaceful waters lived countless creatures, and an enormous number of them seems to gather, moving toward their path.
Bragnir’s eyes remained fixed on the distant horizon as he looked toward the destination that had kept his people moving through days of battle and exhaustion.
"We’re almost there... Across this sea is sanctuary for us and our people."
Emery remained silent as he stared across the blue ocean.
The Scourge had pinned them down.
