Chapter 1039: Chapter 1039: Origins of the Holy White Empire (3)
Frost couldn’t help but frown as he listened to his father’s words. His mind struggling to quantify the sheer magnitude of loss that Nova suffered due to the Holy White Empire and the Church of Light’s dastardly machinations.
’Life is cheap, even when counted in the millions the world will continue to turn, returning to the status quo after one or perhaps two generations but knowledge, the foundation on which the world is built, even a small loss can have paradigm shifting consequences.’ Frost bemoaned such carnage, his gaze drifting as he thought of what might have been.
Northrend was once a leader amongst the other nations, a spearhead from the Yangmir continent that pushed back the devil borne from the central continent but now....their strongest soldier was merely a half step into the S-rank, and their long history was on the brink of destruction, torn asunder by civil war.
The world had changed, becoming lesser.
’Perhaps back then the Realm of Niflheim wasn’t quite so shocking...merely another mighty nation amongst the multitude.’ Of course with a primordial like Shivali in charge it would always reign supreme, but the gap might not have been so wide.
"Is that why the Federation of Knowledge is so highly venerated and protected?" While Frost stewed in the loss of what once was Indra thought about those trying to fix the damage.
The Federation of Knowledge followed the will of Lord Dark, pooling together culture, knowledge and advancements of all nations across Nova, storing them safely within their vaults, ensuring that the world would never again suffer such loss.
"Yes. By my will they have been protecting the world’s knowledge, hoarding a part of it within their vaults while another is disseminated throughout Nova to help restore that which has been lost. Because of their actions many new fighting styles, crafting techniques and even spells have flourished and spread throughout the world and thus bringing Nova closer to what it once was." Dark was very proud of their success, admiring their diligence and determination to see all of Nova prosper...a noble duty.
The Federation even investigated Dungeons from their entrance to their core rooms all in an effort to better understand their existence and help the world welcome this new addition.
Speaking of the Federation of Knowledge seemed to lighten Dark’s mood, a smile graced his lips, and a wistful almost hopeful expression donned his face as he spoke. "Agar, Frost, Indra if you have an opportunity to help the Federation in the future I sincerely hope you choose to do so. They’re good people, maybe a little eccentric but still good." Eccentric was putting it lightly, they were obsessed with their research, new found knowledge being no different from that of a drug.
A certain young woman flashed through Frost’s eyes when he heard his father use the term eccentric.
’Hmph that’s putting it lightly.’ Thanks to the Federation’s desire to learn about Dungeons he was graced with the presence of Ladius Palmer, a strange and unnerving woman that made it almost impossible for him to feel at ease in her presence. Her eyes tended to look beyond the surface making him feel naked in her presence and not in a good way. But even so he held her in high esteem, her overall impression being good.
"I’ve met them before. They’re strange but as you said good at heart. If I have a chance in the future I don’t mind lending them a hand."
While Frost’s current creative track record wasn’t all that impressive merely two somewhat unique monster races, that could change in the future. Perhaps he’d end up like Void and Chronos spending great amounts of their time creating new magic, the ice element had a lot of depth after all.
Dark nodded his head in response, his heart feeling more chipper, the miasma brought on by their earlier discussion dissipating somewhat.
"Now you know why people fear the Church of Light." Their past actions were nothing short of evil, a calamity that affected every nation on the planet. "So, do you still intend to fight them Indra?" Izuna asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Despite not living through that age she knew what horrors they wrought; her 2nd uncle was but a shell of a person, his hair had turned white, his skin pallid and sickly but it was his mind and soul that had been truly disturbed.
The man was constantly plagued by nightmares, every time he close his eyes he’d see his friends, family and countrymen being slaughtered like animals by smile wearing demons.
Every single youth in the celestial fox clan who wished to leave the lands of their tribe were forced to listen to his story, to learn of the horrors that possibly awaited them beyond their borders so that they wouldn’t be caught unawares.
Her young master, her lover, the man who she held closest to her heart was now going to fight them, to fight the demons that plunged Nova into chaos. Even if it was but a branch of the true monster, a mere expeditionary force with not a single A-rank she couldn’t help but worry.
Indra sensing her distress took firm hold of her left hand and placed it atop his heart, allowing her to feel his strong, powerful and fearless heartbeat. "Hahaha it was never in question my dear, Agar is in danger and Frost will be fighting so of course I’ll be joining the fun."
Despite hearing the tale of the Holy White Empire and the Church of Light Indra was not the least bit deterred, rather his desire to fight had only grown. There was a madness, a burgeoning flame in his eyes as he looked down at Izuna, he was going to take part, but he didn’t want her to worry.
"But there’s no need to look at me with such eyes my love, I listened to your tale and have understood the lesson within." Indra proceeded to pull the Izuna in close, whispering gently into her eye caring not for the show he was putting on in front of his family. Only a weak coward would avoid displaying his affection.
"Hoh, and what lesson is that?" Izuna with slightly blushing cheeks asked while finding Indra’s actions and grandiose words annoying. To her it seemed as though Indra failed to listen to her story, caring only about the prospect of fighting a powerful enemy alongside his brother but she couldn’t be more wrong.
Indra did listen and he did learn something.
"To never let down my guard, to not sheathe my blade until all semblance of life has left them....and then for good measure...." Indra cutting himself off, turned to face Frost. The two brothers shared an evil smile and nodded.
""Burn them."" The two of them said at the same time with the exact same malevolent expression.
"....." Izuna looked up at the taller Indra, shocked by his words and the expression marring his handsome face. "...Hmm you learned well." She liked his answer, so much so she found her lips curling into a similarly evil grin.
The only good follower from the Church of Light was a dead follower.
"Looks like I’m going to have to dig deep into my coffers after all." Agar playfully mused, his own bony mouth forming a smile. With two single digit Dungeon cores helping him out he was no longer consumed by fear, in fact he couldn’t wait to see those damn priests and zealots from the Church of Light turning into corpses beneath his brothers’ feet.
"As long as the pay is fair that’s good enough Agar." Indra looked upon his younger brother fondly, not wanting him to cut off a limb just to pay him for his services. The thrill of the battle alone would likely be enough to sate him but of course that would be somewhat unfair.
The group thus chatted amongst one another for some time, Agar, Indra and Frost coming to a concrete deal in regards to rewards as well as a timeframe in which Dark would teleport the latter alongside their ten monsters to Agar’s Dungeon. While Agar would certainly benefit from a sooner than later approach Frost and Indra couldn’t simply drop everything at the drop of a hat. They needed to choose the monsters that would be accompanying them, arrange management over their Dungeons during their time away, put a few fail safes in place and last but not least prepare themselves for a battle like no other.
"Four hours then. In four hours father will teleport us and our monsters to your Dungeon Agar, from there we’ll get the lay of the land and make a plan." Frost acting as the leader of the group announced their decision.
"Sounds good." Agar could only hope that the damage incurred over the next four hours would be minimal at best.
"Hehehe I can’t wait to kick some Church of Light butt." Indra ever the battle junkie simply looked forward to fighting.
"Then I’ll see you both in four hours, father."
"I’ll be ready." Replied Dark, his smile threatening to reach his ears, he was so proud of his sons, willing to risk death to help their younger brother.
With that the three holographic images surrounding Frost vanished leaving him alone in his Dungeon’s training space.
"Haaaaaa hopefully she’ll react better than Izuna did." Now that the operation was finalised and agreed to Frost needed to inform his own guardian about the situation who like Izuna was quite reactive to any mention of the Church of Light. A task he dreaded but one he had to carry out, nonetheless.
