DMS Chapter 260

Flinx was a little disappointed when Abericht informed him by letter that he was only allowed to bring thirteen people with him to the castle for his ranking-up celebration and ennoblement. That meant he couldn’t bring everyone with him.

In truth, he hadn’t really expected to bring everyone, since there were more than seventy people living in the compound, not including the servants and the guards.

He decided to bring David, Arcios, Keero, Violet, their teachers, Olivia and her brothers, Paul, and Mark.

A lot of people were disappointed because they had wanted to see the inside of a castle. The only comfort Flinx’s friends could offer their family members was that when it was time for them to rank up, they would make sure to bring them into the castle.

When Samuel told his parents the same thing, Penelope sniffed.

“Paul already told us that it would probably take you more than a decade to reach Flinx’s level. Thank goodness that Flinx turned us young, or else we would be dead by then.”

Flinx laughed uproariously when he heard what Penelope had said.

He sent a letter to the Mage Guild containing the date of the celebration. He also included some funds that they could use to make sure the four children were presentable.

Several days later, the day of the ranking-up celebration at the castle arrived. It was already well known throughout the city that a new Platinum-rank adventurer had appeared.

Flinx was glad that the secretaries Olivia had hired for him, Demos and Reginald, were experienced enough to fend off the invitations from various people. Without their experience, there was a good chance that Flinx would have offended a lot of people by then.

Both Demos and Reginald were middle-aged men in their forties, and both looked like typical standoffish butlers.

Flinx was just glad that they were comfortable living in his tower. Thankfully, he had included several rooms on the second floor and told them that they could take whichever rooms they wanted.

He also advanced them some funds that they could use to furnish their rooms however they wanted.

Regarding their pay, Flinx was glad that Olivia had still taken it upon herself to manage it. At first, Flinx thought that he might be taking advantage of Olivia by continually assigning her tasks, but then he remembered how much wealth he had already given her from the earnings of the store. More than likely, the responsibilities he had thrust upon her were perfectly fine.

On the day of the celebration, Flinx drove his SUV to the Mage Guild first to pick up David, Arcios, Keero, Olivia, and their teachers, with Paul and Mark following him in their cars. They made sure to drive slowly enough to avoid causing an accident, but their cars still attracted a lot of attention from pedestrians.

When they arrived at the Mage Guild, Flinx saw the children waiting just outside the guild. He smiled when he saw how the four kids looked.

They looked like wealthy young nobles, with their teachers standing behind them.

When Flinx exited his car, the four kids ran toward him and hugged him. They immediately started talking over one another. Flinx asked them to get into the car first, and they did.

Flinx then walked toward the children’s teachers.

“I’m glad that you all accepted my invitation,” Flinx told them.

“Someone reaching the Platinum rank is rare, and we’re glad to be a part of it.”

Flinx asked them to get into Paul’s car. Once the four wizards had settled down, Flinx saw them start examining the inside of Paul’s vehicle.

Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher were riding with Mark in his car. They were also extremely excited about being invited to Flinx’s ranking-up celebration at the castle.

Flinx’s two new secretaries would also be going to the castle, but they were traveling by carriage. They would remain outside and attend to Flinx if he needed them.

On the way to the castle, Mark took the lead, since Olivia would be guiding him while Paul and Flinx followed behind.

The four children kept chatting nonstop about Flinx’s new rank. They kept saying that they knew he was extremely powerful. They also repeatedly said that someday, they would become Platinum-rank adventurers and nobles of the land themselves.

Flinx encouraged them since it wouldn’t hurt for the kids to have ambition. It would motivate them to do well in their studies.

He asked them if they had received the care packages he had been sending them, and they assured Flinx that they had.

David admitted that ever since the news that Flinx had reached the Platinum rank, everyone had started treating them as though they were the children of high-ranking nobles. Flinx simply reminded them not to abuse the privilege, and the children sniffed and told him that they knew what to do.

Flinx kept forgetting that the children had grown up on the streets and were well versed in scheming.

The moment they arrived at the castle, Abericht and Semanor met up with him. Flinx was glad they did because, in truth, he had no idea what he was supposed to do.

The two Diamond-rank adventurers led Flinx and his entourage inside the castle.

The decorations were grand, and Flinx couldn’t believe that it was all for him. When he commented on it, both Abericht and Semanor laughed.

They told him that the celebration wasn’t all about him. There were others who were going to be granted noble titles as well. Most of them, however, were children of nobles whose fathers had died or abdicated.

In truth, what Abericht and Semanor said comforted him a little. At least it reduced his nervousness, since apparently, his importance wasn’t that great.

The celebration was held in the form of a banquet, and Flinx’s group was allotted two tables. Flinx sat with the four children and their teachers, while Paul, Mark, Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher sat together.

While they were waiting for the banquet to start, Flinx asked the children’s teachers if the kids needed more funds. He simply wanted to make sure that they were being well taken care of.

The children’s teachers assured him that the funds he had given them were enough to last for years.

Soon, the first course was served. The kids’ teachers had to sigh when they saw how the children ate, but they didn’t comment since Flinx’s behavior was much the same.

After the first course, the awarding ceremony began. Four nobles were awarded their titles, and after that, the second course was served.

After the second course, the next part of the awarding ceremony began, and Flinx was part of it.

Flinx was glad that it was simple enough. The host, who was surprisingly a Duke according to one of the children’s teachers, announced that Flinx had completed the ranking-up test under the supervision of Gremendor, Ruchamon, and Orlando, three of the honorable Platinum-rank adventurers serving the kingdom.

He would also be awarded the title of Baron and receive Merlot Manor, located a few miles outside the city.

Amid the loud applause, with Flinx’s entourage being the loudest, he climbed onto the stage to receive his awards.

When he returned to his table, the children’s four teachers gasped loudly. When Flinx looked at them, they pointed at the letter he was carrying.

The letter prominently displayed the number seven. When he read further, it stated that Flinx was considered seventh among the Platinum-rank adventurers in Ilioven.

He wondered what it meant, but decided to wait until later to ask Abericht about it. He knew that the children’s teachers understood its significance, but he decided not to ask them to avoid any misunderstanding.

The third course was then served, and afterward, some performers went onto the stage. After the performance, the next set of awards was presented.

In truth, Flinx was starting to get bored, and he wasn’t the only one. The children were getting bored as well, but their teachers looked extremely excited.

Flinx guessed that the awarding ceremony was somehow extremely important to some people.
