The palm of Renan’s bare right hand did not yield an inch, yet the star-metal blade resting against his skin did not shatter.

Instead of reeling back in blind panic, Sir Arthur Pendelton twisted his wrists with the fluid, lethal grace of a veteran who had fought through seventy-four dimensional incursions. The British knight exhaled a short, controlled burst of white steam through his clenched teeth. His golden pupils contracted, cold and analytical, instantly cataloging the anomaly before him.

He did not pull the broadsword backward. He shoved forward.

"Sanctuary Shear," Arthur whispered, speaking not with fury, but with the quiet authority of an executioner.

The ancient silver fuller running down the spine of the broadsword flared with a blinding, high-frequency hum. The holy mana did not explode outward as a wild fireball. It condensed into a microscopic, vibrating edge of spatial friction that bit directly through the ambient air, slicing through the thick atmospheric gravity surrounding Renan’s arm.

A sharp hiss of displaced heat cut across the deck.

The six-inch steel plating beneath their boots, fused together from the hulls of forgotten warships, parted in a clean, molten trench under the escaping pressure. The platform tilted sharply toward the sea.

Renan shifted his weight to his back foot, his dark coat rustling as he tilted his neck by three inches.

The vibrating silver light severed two loose strands of his dark hair, the severed fibers turning into pale sparks before drifting into the sea mist.

Renan did not wait for the blade to reset. He stepped inside Arthur’s guard, his left elbow driving forward in a short, brutal rising arc aimed straight for the knight’s exposed chin.

The kinetic wind alone was heavy enough to cave in an armored bulkhead.

Arthur’s reaction was terrifyingly precise. Rather than raising a gauntlet to block a strike that carried thousands of physical strength points, he released his left hand from the sword grip, planting his palm against Renan’s rising tricep and redirecting the concussive vector upward.

The upward shockwave blasted the clouds directly above them in a cylindrical vacuum three hundred yards wide, yet Arthur’s feet remained anchored to the tilted deck.

Using the redirected momentum, Arthur spun on his heel, his heavy white cloak whipping through the salt spray. His eight-foot broadsword traced a clean horizontal arc, aiming to sever Renan’s ribcage along the seam where his Sovereign mana was thinnest.

Renan dropped under the arc, his leather boot sweeping across the wet steel grating to kick Arthur’s forward knee.

The impact sounded like a heavy bronze hammer striking a church bell.

Arthur’s knee armor, forged from deep-sea titanium alloy and blessed by the high clergy of Canterbury, caved inward with a dull metallic dent. The knight grunted, his breath catching in his throat as the blunt force vibrated up into his hip joint, but his blade did not waver. As he was forced half a step back, the tip of his broadsword dug into the deck, carving an eight-foot trench that threw a shower of red-hot sparks into Renan’s face.

"You possess the physical mass of an abyssal titan," Arthur said, his voice level despite the sweat stinging his brow, his aristocratic accent clipping each syllable short. "The reports from Geneva assumed you were relying on cheap necromantic tricks. They failed to understand that your own body is the weapon."

Renan stood upright, his purple pupils tracking every minute twitch of the knight’s shoulders.

"Geneva writes reports to comfort men who are about to drown," Renan replied softly.

Arthur narrowed his eyes. He raised his broadsword with one hand, resting the flat of the silver blade across his shoulder armor, while his left hand reached into the velvet pouch at his belt. He did not draw a potion or an alchemical stimulant. He pulled out a small, circular medallion carved from white quartz, bearing the twelve-pointed star of the Silver Round.

He crushed the quartz between his fingers without hesitation.

A pillar of pure, unblemished argent light fell from the upper clouds, engulfing Arthur in an iridescent sphere that purged the dark ocean fog for half a mile around the bastion.

The air on the central platform lost its damp chill, replaced by the scent of burning frankincense and hot silver. The structural steel of the iron wall beneath them began to smoke, the corrupted necrotic mana holding the sunken hulls together hissing as if touched by boiling acid.

Across the floating fortress, the four hundred shadow sailors stationed at the heavy kinetic guns let out low, muffled hisses, their obsidian armor smoking under the ambient holy radiation.

"Round Table Resonance," Arthur declared, the light in his eyes washing away all traces of human fatigue, his broken knee joint realigning itself with a sharp series of clicks. "Every blade drawn under the Crown feeds my core across the sea. You are not dueling a man, Renan. You are contesting the martial history of an entire empire."

Arthur moved.

He did not fly, nor did he run across the deck. His physical form dissolved into a streak of argent luminescence that skipped across the surface of the tilted metal plates, leaving five distinct afterimages, each carrying the weight of an authentic physical strike.

Five silver blades descended from five separate angles toward Renan’s vitals: throat, chest, heart, spine, and femoral artery.

Each afterimage radiated the same density, the same heat, and the exact same lethal intent.

Renan did not summon an obsidian shield to absorb all five. He knew that against an SSS-Rank conceptual relic, a broad passive barrier would merely become a massive target for Arthur’s spatial friction.

Renan closed his eyes for a fraction of a second.

He stopped looking with his eyes and began feeling with the gravity domain anchored to the continental shelf beneath the sea.

The five afterimages were fast, moving at three times the speed of sound, but they all displaced air. They all carried mass. And in the three-mile zone of the Eastern Strait, all mass answered to the Monarch.

Renan snapped his eyes open, his violet pupils dilating until the whites vanished.

He thrust both hands down toward the rusted deck.

The gravitational field on the central platform did not press downward; it sheared violently to the left, bending forty-five degrees toward the ocean surface.

The sudden, catastrophic shift in localized physics caught all five afterimages off balance. The silver light wavered, four of the false reflections drifting an inch off course, their blades biting uselessly into the empty air where Renan had been standing a microsecond prior.

Only one blade carried the true, unyielding mass of the physical knight.

The real Arthur stumbled slightly as his center of gravity was pulled sideways, his descending strike grazing Renan’s right shoulder. The sharp silver edge tore through the heavy wool of Renan’s coat, scoring a thin, pale white line across his flesh that did not bleed, but smoked with faint violet sparks.

Renan did not retreat from the grazing blow.

He stepped directly into the pocket of displacement Arthur left behind, his right hand shooting out like an iron clamp, his fingers digging deep into the dented titanium armor around Arthur’s throat.

The knight’s eyes widened as his forward momentum was stopped dead.

"Your empire is on the other side of an ocean, Arthur," Renan whispered into the knight’s ear, his voice quiet, cold, and carrying the terrible finality of a collapsing mountain.

Renan pulled the knight down, driving his left knee with full, unhindered kinetic force straight into Arthur’s breastplate.

The sound was like an artillery shell detonating inside a steel vault.

The reinforced star-metal cuirass buckled inward four inches, the golden crest of the Silver Round warping into twisted scrap. Arthur’s lungs seized, a violent spray of dark crimson blood bursting from his mouth, spattering across the lapel of Renan’s dark coat.

The shockwave blasted Arthur backward through the air.

The First Knight of the Silver Round skipped across eighty yards of rusted iron decking, smashing through two heavy gun emplacements before crashing hard against the twisted titanium conning tower of a sunken destroyer, leaving a deep, human-shaped crater in the metal.

Arthur slumped onto one knee in the debris, his broadsword trembling in his grip, his breath coming in ragged, bloody gasps as he struggled to lift his chin.

Across the perimeter, the silence of the sea returned, broken only by the hiss of sea spray against the hot wreckage.

Renan walked slowly toward the crater, his boots clicking rhythmically against the blood-stained deck, his violet eyes burning with absolute, sovereign dominance.

Suddenly, eighty miles out on the open sea, the dark horizon erupted in a blinding, synchronized flash of orange fire.

The acoustic receiver at Renan’s collar shrieked with high-priority interference as Boss Victor’s voice tore through the speaker:

"Sovereign! The American battle group just opened fire! General Vance launched thirty sub-orbital kinetic penetrators from the USS Titan! They aren’t aiming for the bastion! They are aiming to vaporize the entire continental shelf!"
