"Ugh...."

Wan Ling let out a pained and tired groan as he found himself back in the land of the living.

Well he didn’t actually die even though what he just experienced was a brush with death so it was close enough.

"Sigh....I really I’m going to kill that Li Wei." He mused as he opened his eyes.

His sight was blurry at first and as he tried moving his hands to rub it, his arms felt sore alongside his entire body.

It reminded him of the first time he visited a gym and went over his limit.

That kind of pain couldn’t be forgotten mostly because it served as a lesson.

Even so that didn’t stop him from trying to get up and as he did,a hand fell onto his shoulder, then came a warm and familiar voice.

"Rest... you’re safe."

Wan Ling’s vision returned as he turned and bore witness to the familiar beauty that was Bai Ruoxue.

Today her azure hair was held high up with a pin and elegantly twisted about to form a thick bun of sorts.

She was in a white evening gown, the sleeveless kind while the fabric gently moulded against her generous bust and went on to flow down her slender waist before stopping right before her knees.

She sat in a chair beside his bed, sipping tea as she retracted her hand from his shoulder.

"Bai Ruoxue!" Wan Ling blinked.

When the teleportation Talisman went off, he expected anything but Bai Ruoxue place to be the convenient spot and yet here he was and he didn’t know what to make of it.

"You are quite a cruel man, you know."

She placed her cup down and grabbed another full of green tea which she then raised and passed to Wan Ling.

"Cruel?" He asked and received the cup.

His body arched with pain from the sudden movement but he persisted as the thick fragrance of the tea reached his nose.

"Yes you are cruel."

As for Bai Ruoxue, she continued with a deadly smile.

"You promised me, I could reach you anytime and you’ll come and yet when I attempted to reach you, you weren’t there."

"But I have come though."

"A month later. Isn’t that what is considered cruel."

"I guess." Wan Ling shrugged.

"I do have a personally good explanation as to why I ghosted you." Wan Ling added but the bitterness on Bai Ruoxue’s expression didn’t go away.

"I was Cultivated."

"With whom...Hei Wumei." She snapped and Wan Ling blinked wondering what the heck she was implying.

"What the fuck are you even going on about?"

"Huh....you don’t need to pretend. You found yourself a pretty core disciple and decided to prioritize her over me."

Wan Ling’s expression twisted in disbelief as he placed the cup aside and looked her in the eyes.

" I was Cultivating, not Dual Cultivating."

" Oh!"Her eyes widened, then came an apologetic smile.

" Even so it doesn’t change anything. If you’re going to do something so important, inform me so I don’t have to waste my time and energy worrying about you."

" Ah...so you care about me." Wan Ling teased and Bai Ruoxue glared at him with a disapproving look.

"I don’t. I just don’t want a potential asset leaving my gasp before I could make any use of it."

" That’s still caring...in a twisted way I guess." Wan Ling mused before shrugging his shoulders for a little relief.

" So what happened?" Bai Ruoxue then went on to question him.

Wan Ling sighed, he really didn’t want to get into that but his life was at risk, it would do him more good if he were to speak about it than just be a brooding mess.

"I was attacked by a member of the red tiger gang." He said.

Bai Ruoxue tilted her neck.

"Why?" She asked bluntly.

"They are just proxies for some idiot’s revenge." He explained and performed a stretch.

" Revenge, what the heck have you been up to to gather the animosity of such a notorious bunch?"

" Well I was bullied so I decided to fight back." Wan Ling responded, his expression growing grim.

" Looking back I should have killed that fucker when I had the chance."

Li Wei stopped being a threat for him even before he entered the Qi tempering realm but his desire to remain low-key alongside the money from the toll was what prevented him from killing him but now things had changed.

That bastard had come after him twice now.

First by interrupting his battle with Chen Yu and second with this assassin stunt.

Wan Ling didn’t always like letting this world’s logic influence him but he couldn’t deny Wan Ling was growing into an actual threat.

His inability to accept losses could not be controlled so wasn’t it only logical to end him before he caused more harm for Wan Ling.

"Ruoxue can I stay here for a while."

"...."

"I’m not asking for your help, I just need a place to stay till I can solve this mess." He further explained.

Bai Ruoxue sighed.

"I don’t mind, provided you don’t mess about with my servants."

"I have no plan on doing that when I have the better option." He teased.

Bai Ruoxue’s cheeks flushed red when she realized Wan Ling was talking about her.

"That tongue of yours sure has a way with words."

"Words aren’t the only thing it’s good at." He smirked, making her flinch and closing her legs shut.

"You... you’re a vulgar man." She said bashfully.

"Well I can’t deny that." Wan Ling laughed and leaned closer and grabbed her thighs.

"No need to act innocent with me princess. I know you’re as eager as I am."

" I’m not!" She denied and shook her head but Wan Ling didn’t stop as he calmly caressed her thigh sending a jolt of surprise through her body.

" Wait...no..." She tried stopping him but..

" Ssshhh." He gently silenced her as his hand climbed up her thigh.
