Just like the winds, Wan Mei came and went as she pleased.

She didn’t bother engaging much with him in terms of conversation before leaving, and honestly, Wan Ling couldn’t blame her.

She was a core disciple and, more importantly than that, she was a disciple under Elder An Wei, the strongest Swordmaster within the region.

That same Elder was also responsible for Feng Ye.

More importantly than that, she didn’t just train her disciples but frequently passed missions onto them to handle, allowing them to put what she taught them into practice.

She was especially hard on Wan Mei, and according to Feng Ye, the number of missions assigned to his sister was borderline cruel at times. Even so, never once had Wan Ling seen his sister complain.

If that wasn’t all, Wan Mei was also an agent for the Martial Alliance.

It was an organization established to regulate cultivators.

Their sworn enemies were the demonic faction, which was comprised mainly of Demonic Cultivators.

His sister worked with this organization and regularly traveled throughout the Moon Country as the organization’s proxy.

That alone doubled her workload.

"She works hard!" Wan Ling muttered as he rolled his shoulders to relax their stiffness.

Choosing to move away from the topic of his sister, he rubbed his forehead, trying to process the most important thing he had learnt through his conversation with her.

That being the fact that a month had passed.

A few days, he might understand, but a month?

He had anticipated this, yet he was still shocked.

He felt like he had slept through so much.

Bai Ruoxue...

More importantly, the three among the devious four owed him money.

A month was akin to four weeks, but he rounded it up to five just because he could.

That meant he was going to collect more than two hundred high-grade spirit stones from the three.

When summed up, that would be almost seven hundred in total.

The amount was far too great to pass off, so that was the first thing on the agenda.

The second was Bai Ruoxue.

He was supposed to dual cultivate with her.

He hadn’t forgotten, but he did tell her to inform him.

The chance that one of her servants had come and he wasn’t there was high, so he needed to figure it out and give her a valid explanation before she too decided to ghost him.

There was also the issue with Hei Wumei.

More precisely, Lingyun.

He had given her a thorough enough massage to leave her coming for seconds.

Given that he had also ghosted her for a month, she might probably kill him if she saw him.

He also needed to visit Fei Yun. He had promised Zhao Yun to be her friend.

Now, what kind of friend would he be if he didn’t regularly visit her?

Finally, he felt it was time to advance from an outer disciple to an inner disciple.

The benefits were far too great to pass up, and more importantly than that, it would increase his chances of encountering an elder so he could copy his or her techniques or whatever absurd powers they had.

"Sigh... It’s barely been an hour since I returned, and I already feel mentally exhausted."

He grimaced at all the things he had to do.

It was rather taxing, to say the least.

---

"I heard Wan Ling is back!" Zhang Hao remarked, earning the attention of his three other colleagues.

Chen Yu was horrified and already holding her head in fear.

He Xue crossed her arms and said nothing.

As for Li Wei, he was biting his lips in rage.

"That... bastard." He spat out in anger.

"Once I get my hands on him, I’ll make him pay for the humiliation he’s put us through." He declared, but He Xue was quick to intervene.

"Haven’t you learned your lesson?"

Li Wei glared at her with daggers.

"Lesson? The fuck are you yapping about? The one that needs to learn a lesson is that bastard after I’m done with him."

There was more He Xue wanted to say, but judging from Li Wei’s expression, she doubted he would listen.

Essentially meaning he was a lost cause.

People like him aren’t told what to do. Rather, they learn from their faults or end up getting killed.

He Xue didn’t know which one Li Wei would end up as, and frankly, she didn’t want to know.

"So what are we going to do?" Chen Yu, her expression completely pale, asked.

"Obviously, he’s going to come for his toll." Zhang Hao remarked, also dreading Wan Ling’s eventual appearance.

"So are we going to pay?" Chen Yu inquired, glancing at all of them.

He Xue remained silent.

Li Wei bit his lips, very enraged.

As for Zhang Hao, he sighed and ruffled his hair.

"We don’t have a choice!" He stated, but Li Wei wasn’t having that.

"You’re all just a bunch of cowards." He exclaimed, disappointed with how spineless they were all acting.

"Yeah, we messed up last time, but we didn’t know any different. But this time, we know he’s strong. So let’s send someone strong his way."

"You must be joking!"

The one to actually speak out was Zhang Hao, who gave Li Wei a look of bewilderment.

"No, I’m not. I know a core disciple."

The expression on Zhang Hao’s face fluttered slightly, but he quickly shook his head.

"Wan Mei is around. You’re just asking for trouble for yourself."

After saying that, he left, leaving Li Wei confused.

Zhang Hao, his own best friend, was walking away.

He didn’t understand why, but he was too blinded by anger to care.

"Are you with me or..."

"I value my life." He Xue interrupted and grabbed Chen Yu’s hand.

"And so do you, right?" She asked Chen Yu, who was unable to meet Li Wei’s eyes.

"Tsk... so even you don’t believe in me." He clicked his tongue and stomped off.

As he left, He Xue glanced at Chen Yu and sighed.

"He’s going to get himself killed all because he can’t accept someone has bested him. If you want to join him in his coffin, you’re free to go."

Chen Yu’s eyes wavered with hesitation, but she shook her head because, unlike Li Wei, she understood how frightening Wan Ling was.
