It was sunset, bathing the skies above Golden Bay City an orange colour.

Currently Wan Ling sat on the ground, his body sweaty and his drenched clothing filled with cuts and slightly bloodied.

His shoulders were pushed back as the kind elder, Zhao Yun calmly wrapped a layer or bandages around his skin.

"I apologize deeply for my grand... Mistresses’ unruly behavior." He said calmly to which Wan Ling nodded.

He was hurt, his body having sustained multiple injuries from fighting Fei Yun even so the benefits made the pain worth it.

Each time he had fought her, his mastery of the Fairy sword Dance greatly increased and after a dozen times he moved from a meager seven to fifteen.

This also pushed his comprehension points from 1400 to almost 2400.

In the end this has benefited him greatly so he was more happy than broody from injuries that would heal in due time.

"It is alright Elder Zhao Yun. Though I have failed, she ended up teaching me more. Hence I will use this failure to better myself in the long run."

Zhao Yun finished with Wan Ling’s arms, stepped back and grabbed a towel to clean his hands with.

"A tutor was not hired to improve her capabilities as a warrior!" He came clean and honestly Wan Ling wasn’t surprised.

Fei Yun was more battle ready than some cultivators he knew.

She definitely had a future following the Cultivation world.

Such a person did not need guidance on how to fight better, especially if she could beat the one who was supposed to give this guidance.

" I am certain you have already figured that out?"

" Yes. After my sword was launched in the air and I was a second away from losing my head." Wan Ling replied sarcastically.

Zhao Yun smiled faintly and took a seat beside Wan Ling.

His calm eye gazed at the distant scenery where the sun painted the skies and clouds orange.

For a moment the old man said nothing, neither did Wan Ling who fidgeted with his fingers due to how awkward the entire moment felt.

Eventually Zhao Yun broke the silence.

"The young mistress is an orphan!" He began.

Wan Ling wouldn’t say he was surprised.

Honestly in this world it was far rarer to have parents that were alive than being an orphan.

So he didn’t particularly know what to do with Zhao Yun information so he just went with his gut feeling.

" So how did they die?"

Zhao Yun’s expression turned bitter but that didn’t stop him from replying.

" Her father was decapitated and her mother...she was poisoned."

"The fast acting kind or....."

"The painful kind." He explained.

"It must have been traumatizing for Fei Yun." Wan Ling remarked but the elder merely shook his head.

"She was a baby then. Barely old enough to form a thought."

"I see." Wan Ling sighed in relief as his own trauma came back to him.

"Tell me Wan Ling, have you ever suffered loss?" Zhao Yun went on to ask.

"Yes not many but it hurts neitherless."

"....."

"My father was poisoned out of the blue and died. My mother was decapitated before my very eyes by my very own uncle....I lost everything overnight...."

His expression twisted into hatred as he went on listing every bad thing that happened to him.

" My family was separated...."

"....I was beaten half to death because I was weak."

".....I was bullied quite a lot too."

" Did I mention the time I was almost mauled to death by a demonic beast and it wasn’t even the strong kind."

As Wan Ling went on to rant about the miseries he had experienced over the decade, Zhao Yun merely listened.

The old man also thought the same as him.

Tragedy was deeply woven into the lives of people in this world.

Few truly experienced genuine happiness throughout their lives.

Zhao Yun found such a conclusion to be quite sad but he had learnt to remain indifferent to it over the years.

Even so he didn’t want the sole family he had to become as pragmatic as him.

" The world hasn’t been kind to you young man" He began but Wan Ling quickly shook his head in disapproval.

" An entire decade maybe but lately. It has enough that I am beginning to fear for the future." Wan Ling explained with laughter.

What if one day he woke up and the System was gone?

What if it was a dream?

So many possibilities that could explain his recent luck surfaced in his mind and there was nothing he could do about it.

It was seemingly one’s nature to be paranoid when good things continuously happen.

Now it was up to him to make sure he wasn’t defined by this paranoia.

There are many ways to do that but Wan Ling focused on that one that would be effective.

Having a goal?

That goal being revenge.

That despicable uncle of his he was going to kill and he wouldn’t end there he was going to slaughter every one that betrayed his family.

The elders, the servants that laughed as he was thrown out, the nobles and so much more.

The world will feel his wrath.

It wasn’t today but in the near future.

That was his goal.

"If that is all, I will be taking my leave!" He suddenly stood up given he had nothing more to offer here.

Zhao also rose alongside him then spoke.

"There was quite a lapse in my judgement!"

His words drew Wan Ling’s attention as he turned.

Meanwhile Zhao Yun continued.

"A tutor isn’t what the mistress needs. Rather a companion who can make her smile like you did today."

"Then...."

"Yes Young Daoist. Though the change is sudden. I want you to continue making Fei Yun smile. Whether by being her sparring partner or her friend...."

He paused and grabbed a pouch from his pocket which he tried passing to Wan Ling.

"She can be quite unbearable at times so I’ll even pay you..."

" I’ll pass." Wan Ling shrugged leaving Zhao Yun to gasp.

" I mean I’ll pass on the money. As for a friend I don’t mind. I might even learn a thing or two from her."

Fei Yun’s swordsmanship had been something he couldn’t comprehend.

He understood it but the system didn’t register it.

He was quite curious why and if sticking around could fill his curiosity then he would happily do so.
