Chapter 5: ⁵: I will be the Alpha

This time, he didn’t bother whispering.

"Athena, listen to yourself," he said firmly. "I know you are shaken by Alpha’s death right now, I know you are blaming yourself because Alpha also had not let you join the war coz you are a shewolf."

My body stiffened.

"And now Beta Logan is using that same thing," Harry continued carefully. "You’re emotional right now. You’re hurt. You aren’t in the right state of mind to make decisions like this."

His eyes softened.

"So let me handle it. Don’t you trust me?"

I stopped in my tracks and froze.

My hands trembled slightly at my sides as I felt like it was too difficult to even breathe through the tightness my heart was feeling. Harry’s words echoed mercilessly inside my mind.

It felt as though he had placed a mirror directly in front of my deepest insecurities, forcing me to look at them clearly.

I could feel my resolve starting to break, my determination was faltering as the guilt of not being there for my father when he needed me plagued through my nerves.

And the cruelest part?

It was true I had not been there just because I was a shewolf.

Is this true then? Is Beta Logan right to question my succession because of me being just a she wolf?

This is not true, my father had announced me as his successor, if he believed i can do this then i can do this and i will do this.

I lifted my chin and looked directly at Harry.

"I trust you," I said steadily. "But don’t worry I am fine, I am not emotional, and I know exactly what I’m doing."

Then, without waiting for another response, I walked toward my seat—the seat that had always stood beside my father’s.

I sat down slowly, my gaze sweeping across every council member before finally landing on Beta Logan once again.

He still had not defended himself.

Perhaps he truly hadn’t expected me to arrive while he was carrying out his little plan.

Even though I was shaken that my father’s own trusted Beta had tried to defy his will, I did not let that cloud my judgement. With determination I decided to announce what I had warned Beta Logan about.

"Since Beta Logan has failed to explain why he attempted to defy the late Alpha’s will," I declared firmly, "I hereby following the pack rules, order that he be executed for treason immediately following my coronation which will happen tomorrow, the fourth day of former Alpha’s death rightly following the traditions."

Silence fell through the whole council hall as if everyone had been frozen in time.

Within seconds, guards stepped forward, forcing Beta Logan onto his knees.

Before anyone could question my authority or plead for mercy on his behalf, I raised the Alpha tally high into the air.

The entire hall dropped to their knees instantly, no one daring to say any other word.

"I, Athena Roosevelt, daughter of Alpha Steven Roosevelt, am the rightful bearer of the Alpha tally after him," I announced, my voice ringing through the chamber. "This was passed to me by my father himself before he left for war."

I looked down at every bowed head before me.

"So hear me clearly."

My grip tightened around the tally.

"My ascension as Alpha is no longer a discussion."

I stared directly at Beta Logan.

"And his blood will mark the beginning of my reign."

"These are my orders and my orders are the law!"
