Dragon Monarch System

Chapter 997:- The Man Known as Merchant Leo

Chapter 997: Chapter 997:- The Man Known as Merchant Leo

Scene changed to the main continent

Somewhere within the celestial dragon empire, there was a modest mansion that belonged to a modest Immortal merchant.

There was nothing extraordinary about this Immortal merchant. The whole city knew him as a kind man. He was known to be a man of his word. Someone that everyone can trust with their money and secrets.

He was a cultivator, but he chose to pursue the path of a merchant rather than continue cultivating.

Despite being very successful and also powerful, he was known for his modesty. When he could lavishly spend his wealth on luxury goods or luxury experiences, he chose to settle for inner satisfaction by donating food, money, and clothing to all orphans across the city.

Across the whole city, he had seven restaurants and seven butcher shops. The quality of his restaurants was so good that, from the nobles to the elites of the society and cultivators, all preferred to dine in his restaurants.

On most days, he could be seen inside one of his restaurants, calmly walking between the tables and personally checking on the customers.

If a poor family could not afford their meal, he would simply wave his hand and tell the staff to serve them properly, as if nothing had happened. No records were kept of such acts, nor did he ever mention them again.

Sometimes, struggling merchants or workers who had fallen into debt would quietly receive help from him. No one knew how he found out about their situation, but just when they were about to lose everything, someone would come and clear a part of their debt in his name.

His workers respected him deeply. Not out of fear, but out of genuine admiration. He paid them fairly, treated them with dignity, and never raised his voice unnecessarily.

Even the nobles who dined at his restaurants spoke highly of him. Many praised the quality of his food, especially the magic animal meat that his butcher shops supplied.

The whole city knew him by the name of merchant Leo.

Merchant Leo had no wife or family. He was truly a man of honour, which could be seen by the fact that, despite being so rich, handsome and single, he did not have any affairs with any women around the city.

There was no messy history of his visiting the prostitute houses around the city. His character was so clean and noble that girls used him as a benchmark of what a perfect man should be.

Right now, inside that very modest mansion, Leo sat by the window and looked at the rest of the city.

Leo had another identity, which was his real identity, and that was that he was the leader of the mysterious organisation.

Right now, the leader of the organisation looked very troubled, not because he had failed to stop the dragon monarch or do any real harm. It was because of the fact that he had seen with his own two eyes the terrifying ability of the goddess of wisdom.

He knew there was a really good chance that using her abilities, she might be able to find his one and only home, where he had lived for almost half 1 million years.

The pearls were really close to maturing. And add this crucial moment, he could not afford to make such a big blunder by not taking precautions. For the sake of his mission, he needed to move.

The second identity that he had created in the last 2000 years, as merchant Leo, had to die. This is not the first time he has created a fake identity for himself to live among the crowd. This certainly won’t be the last time he will do it.

But throughout the half a million of years one thing never changed was that his home always stayed this. Since the time of the Crimson Dragon King, this place has been Leo’s home. He had styled the house according to his late wife’s preferences. Just the thought of leaving his home until he finished his enemies filled him with sadness. He did not even feel this much sadness when his adopted son was killed by his own orders.

"But it has to be done." The man known as Leo pulled out an old portrait of a woman. The portrait itself was a million years old. But he maintained the portrait so well that, even after 1 million years had passed, not a single scratch could be seen.

It was the portrait of his late wife, who unfortunately passed away.

Even as a powerful cultivator, he had a sharp memory, but even he would have forgotten his wife’s appearance without this portrait.

Within just 10,000 years, he was already beginning to forget the facial structure, the height, and other things about his wife. Fortunately, he was able to create this portrait from his leftover memories using a special technique.

"Even after a million years have passed, you are still the most beautiful woman that I have ever laid my eyes upon." This is the reason why he could never bring himself to even have any romantic thoughts for any other woman, or much less sleep with them.

The woman in the portrait had long, beautiful, curly, bright red hair. She was pale-skinned. She had small eyes, thin lips and a tiny nose. Her most distinct feature was that she had a mole at the centre of her right cheek and another mole between her eyebrows. These two moles only enchanted her beauty.

With his power, position, wealth, looks, and influence, throughout the years, he never once lacked women. But his heart was dead for any romantic spark. The last person he felt a bit of love and affection towards was his adopted son. But his son turned out to be a snake and silently betrayed the organisation.

"My wife, how long has it been since we parted ways?" His wife’s death wasn’t planned by anyone. She had extremely poor talent in cultivation; as a result, despite leaving for almost 10000 years, she could not avoid death. She had reached the end of her lifespan.

This is what created the current version of himself.

After the death of his wife, he became a man without purpose. He kept wandering around the whole world for thousands of years until he met his master. A man who finally gave him a purpose.

Not just any purpose, but it was the ultimate purpose. There was nothing in this world that was more grand and magnificent than the goal that his master is trying to achieve. Just being able to help a man of that calibre felt like a privilege.

Leo did not do any of these because he was brainwashed or manipulated, or he was under some kind of spell. The vision that his master showed him pushed him to walk on this lonely journey of over 1 million years.

"After today, Leo is dead!" Leo became determined. It was almost impossible to believe just a few seconds back. He was grieving over the fact that he would need to abandon his home. But this just goes to show how strong the determination of a man who lived for the purpose of one goal.

But to Leo, nothing else mattered more than achieving the Grand Purpose.

That very afternoon, something strange happened. The Merchant Leo, along with the rest of his servants, was found dead. The bodies were set on fire. By the time people arrived, the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

For some reason, the flame was very strong and burned everything very quickly. Before the flame could be stopped, the entire estate and everything in it had been burned to ashes. But the most strange part, the ownership documents of his businesses, somehow survived. And when people found it, Leo had already written someone in his will. He had donated his businesses to the orphanages. Each business went to one orphanage. The profit from these businesses would head to the orphanages.

Maybe Leo felt guilty for everything that he did. So whenever he could, he tried his best to donate or help people so that it would ease some of that heavy guilt in his heart. He did not because he considered himself to be a good man. He did this because his wife was a gentle soul. And he knew deep down, his wife would hate the man that Leo had become. So doing a small act of kindness was his way of not drowning in overwhelming guilt whenever he looked at his wife’s portrait.

For someone who has lived over 1 million years, pulling something like this was almost as easy as drinking water.

Ask where his next home will be, no one knew.

But for now, his full focus will be on taking down the two enemies of the Organisation. The two enemies were the Dragon Monarch and the Goddess of War. Both parties knew too much about the organisation.
