Dragon Genesis: I Can Create Dragons

Chapter 355: A King.

Chapter 355: A King.

“You are back.”

Kael muttered as he glanced at Lavinia, who had just returned after delivering her lectures. The Princess nodded as she sat beside him. The rest of the guards stared at her—some stared with jealousy, as if trying to curse his existence—but neither Kael nor Lavinia paid much mind to it.

“How was the class?”

Kael questioned.

“Same as always.”

Lavinia sighed.

“Their foundation is lacking. Not only are they a few hundred years behind, the path they were on was also the wrong one. The powers that once followed this Magic Path had long fallen or changed their ways because of how inefficient they were.”

“No wonder the number of mages here is so low.”

Kael commented, and the Princess nodded again.

“With their Magic System, becoming a Mage is simply too inefficient. The reason most Mages chose the Magic Path wasn’t because they liked it, there were just too many Warriors around, and they thought becoming a Mage might give them an edge over others and improve their importance.”

She explained.

“It isn’t their fault either.”

Kael shrugged.

Mages and Warriors were fundamentally different. Warriors could improve just by practicing hard—mindlessly swinging one’s sword again and again would be more than enough to become a strong Warrior. The path of a Warrior did not need any innovation; it had been mostly the same for thousands of years.

However, Mages were different. Mages constantly came up with ways to improve their Magic, making it more and more efficient, and because Velmourn Mages could not do that, the path of a Warrior here became more prominent.

Lavinia knew it as well, so she didn’t say anything and just nodded in defeat. Not wanting to talk about this any longer, she changed the topic,

“Where’s that assigned liaison of yours?”

She questioned, finding it odd that the woman wasn’t around. It wasn’t much since Lavinia was with Kael most of the time, however, every time she returned from her lectures, that woman was always around Kael because of one reason or another.

Hearing that question, Kael laughed as he pointed at Alrisa, who had brought her blanket together with her and had been sleeping at the corner of the Wall.

“…She’s sleeping?”

“Ever since you left.”

Kael laughed.

“It was almost like she was waiting for you to leave.”

“No wonder she was so happy when you chose the Wall.”

Lavinia muttered.

“So much for wanting to use the Dragon Rider’s strength in the best way possible and protecting her Town and her people.”

The Princess snorted.

“Well, I didn’t exactly have a choice, did I?”

Kael replied.

There was no way he could keep up his training if he spent 12 hours working. Coming to the Wall was indeed the best option.

“Right.”

Lavinia nodded, her eyes still staring at the sleeping Alrisa.

“To think she even brought a blanket.”

She muttered.

“And why did she wait for me to leave? It wasn’t like I was stopping her from doing whatever she wanted.”

“Probably because she didn’t want to be judged by you.”

Kael laughed.

“She should have woken up by now if she wanted that. She is one of the laziest people I know. I have no clue how someone like her became Keeper of Records.

I still can’t forget her beaming smile when you decided to join the Watch. For a moment, I actually believed she was happy that this would save lives.”

The Princess snorted.

Kael laughed again. Soon, however, as if he just thought about it,

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Hmm? Sure.”

Lavinia nodded, turning towards Kael. His expression was all she needed to know it was important, so she quickly waved her hand and cast a silent barrier around them.

“Why not use Imperia’s Ants to keep an eye on Tribesmen to learn everything about them and know when they are planning to attack?”

“Aren’t we doing that already?”

“Half of the Ants are still in the Town.”

Kael answered.

“You want to use all of them?”

Lavinia tilted her head.

“Keeping a few around us should be more than enough, no? Why spread them all around the Town?

I understand the importance of information—we should know about everything that is happening around us—but we have been fine till now, haven’t we?

We would survive a little longer, no? What these people need the most right now is the information regarding the Tribesmen and when they might attack.

If we use all the Ants, we can gather that information as soon as possible and help them prepare accordingly.

This will also help us build trust and have better control here, don’t you think? Once we have that, we would be able to set up our information network more easily.”

This was actually Kael’s initial plan. He believed that since Tribesmen were the Velmourns’ biggest concern, if he came up with a solution to it—like knowing their plan of attack in advance, or learning something important enough to deal a huge blow to them without harming much of their own forces—he would gain their trust and unconditional support.

He would be treated like a ’Hero’, raising the authority he has here.

But—

“Aren’t you planning on keeping Lady Imperia’s existence a secret?”

Lavinia questioned as she tilted her head.

“How will you explain the source of your information? What will you say when they ask how you knew everything you told them?”

“I was thinking of keeping it a secret. I am the Dragon Rider, I wish to cast a mysterious air around me—something that would make others think of me as omniscient.

This way, I will hold a psychological advantage and will gain their loyalty faster than I normally would.”

Kael explained his plan. It was a good plan, yes, but…

“That mysterious image would earn you ’favor’, not loyalty.”

The Princess spoke up.

“There is a difference between the two.”

Kael stayed silent, wanting to listen to what she wanted to say.

“Favor does not last long. You will need to prove yourself again and again to keep the people on your side.

What you need is loyalty.”

Kael narrowed his eyes. The word ’loyalty’ sounded… quite ambitious.

Lavinia, however, was only just beginning. She looked around for a moment, and once she was sure nobody was observing them and everyone was doing their own thing, she decided to reveal her intentions.

“Ashen Heights is an isolated land that is protected by the Treaty. For someone like us, who were in need of a station, it was the best option.

Yes, the resources here are low, the people living here are having a hard time, but we were already expecting this when we decided to come here—no, I was actually hoping for it.

Why do you think I wanted that?”

Lavinia questioned.

“It would be easier to settle and gain their trust if we could help them in some way. The worse their situation, the more they would trust us.”

Kael answered.

Lavinia had used a similar tactic before when they saved the Town from the Corrupted Beast Tide.

Desperate situations call for a Hero, and when such a Hero does appear, people follow him.

“You want them to see me as a ’Hero’, correct?”

He questioned. His guess would have been right in other scenarios, but…

Lavinia was much more ambitious than that.

“We are not here for you to become a Hero.”

She shook her head.

“What…?”

Kael frowned, and Lavinia’s purple eyes shined intensely,

“A King.

That is what you are going to be.”

“A King…?”

Kael’s expression changed.

“Our enemies are too strong.”

Lavinia began.

“The King of the strongest Kingdom in all of Nerathis is after us, there is Xenthalor—the second strongest Force that is said to have been allied with Twilight—and then there is Twilight itself.

The other Nations cannot be trusted either. They do not know their standing or what they are fighting for. The only thing we know is that they are after benefits as well.”

“What are you trying to say…?”

Kael questioned with a frown on his face.

“I am saying that the number of enemies we have is high, while the men we can trust are little to none.

We are alone, and being alone is being powerless.

No matter how strong we get, if we are alone, we will lose.

This happened in history, this happened in your Vision where your Future Self was surrounded by enemies, and this will continue to happen in the future.

Numbers—that is what we need.

And to get those numbers,

You will become the King.”

Lavinia announced, and Kael…

He just couldn’t understand one thing,

“How am I going to become a King anyway?”

Wasn’t becoming the King all about bloodlines and stuff? Would anyone accept him, an outsider, as their King? What could he even do? Force his way up?

At his question, however, Lavinia just chuckled and—

“That, you leave to me.

You just act like you normally do, and I will make you the perfect King.”
