Douluo: Seven Treasure Pagoda? I'm Actually a Summoner!
Chapter 260: The City of Slaughter
Chapter 260: Chapter 260: The City of Slaughter
Seven or eight figures lunged at Jiang Bai simultaneously—blades flashed, swords glinted, and Soul Rings flickered.
Jiang Bai didn’t even spare them a glance. He raised his dragon claw and gave it a gentle sweep.
Golden-red flames surged outward like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing those figures.
"Ah—!!!"
Screams of agony rose in a cacophony. The figures writhed and howled amidst the flames, but to no avail. The golden-red inferno clung to them like a parasitic growth, burning ever more fiercely.
A moment later, several piles of charred ash lay upon the floor.
The remaining patrons in the tavern stood frozen in shock. They stared at Jiang Bai, their eyes wide with terror. No one dared to move; no one dared to utter a word.
Jiang Bai glanced at the waiter—who stood before him, petrified with fear—but paid him no mind. He lowered his head, raised his foot, and stomped the ground.
"Boom—!!!"
The ground instantly cracked and fractured, revealing a massive chasm. A chilling, frigid wind wafted up from the depths below, carrying with it the heavy, pungent scent of blood.
Without hesitation, Jiang Bai leaped forward, plunging directly into the pitch-black abyss beneath the floor. His body was instantly swallowed by the darkness, vanishing completely from sight.
Having descended into the darkness, he fell only a few meters before his feet touched solid ground once more. He found himself in a long, sloping passageway, down which a chilling aura ceaselessly drifted.
Jiang Bai did not traverse the passageway on foot. Instead, he instantly teleported directly to its very end.
Before him stood an open gateway. The portal rose some three zhang high and spanned two zhang wide; its edges were carved with grotesque, hideous skull motifs. Within the gateway shimmered a dark-red glow, obscuring whatever lay beyond.
A cold, disembodied voice suddenly echoed from all directions: "Welcome to the City of Slaughter. This is the capital of Hell—a world steeped in carnage. Here, you may obtain anything your heart desires; the only price is your very life."
Jiang Bai paid the voice no heed. He took a step forward and passed through the gateway.
The scene before him suddenly opened up in vast, breathtaking clarity. It was a vast plaza, its ground paved with dark red flagstones, and the air within it was thick with the pungent scent of blood.
Surrounding the plaza stood a multitude of black structures—varying in height, yet arranged in a striking, staggered pattern. The sky above was a deep, dark red; there was no sun, no stars—only a dead, silent expanse of crimson gloom.
And in the very center of the plaza, one hundred and one black figures stood in motionless silence.
They were one hundred black-armored knights. Clad in identical black plate armor, their faces were completely obscured by their helmets. Each knight wielded a massive greatsword, the blades of which still bore traces of dark red blood.
Standing before them, a single knight sat astride a towering warhorse. The horse, too, was encased in thick black armor, revealing nothing but a pair of eyes burning with a dark red, fiery glow. This knight’s armor was far more ornate than the others; skull motifs were carved into his pauldrons, and his cloak was a deep, dark red—resembling nothing so much as congealed blood.
"You have broken the rules." The voice was low and deep, yet sounded utterly devoid of warmth—so cold, in fact, that it scarcely seemed to issue from a human throat. The speaker was none other than the black-armored knight seated upon the horse.
Jiang Bai offered no reply.
He raised his right hand, and within his palm, the Nine-Colored Glazed Pagoda materialized. Though diminutive and exquisite in form, the pagoda radiated a dazzling, nine-hued brilliance. At its very apex, the Dragon God’s Heart shimmered like a distant star.
He tossed the miniature pagoda into the air.
Instantly, the Nine-Colored Glazed Pagoda expanded, transforming into a colossal tower several zhang in height. Bearing down with a cataclysmic force capable of shattering the heavens and earth, it smashed directly into the cluster of black-armored knights!
"BOOM—!!!"
A deafening roar! The colossal pagoda slammed down upon the black-armored knights—men and horses alike—crushing them into a bloody pulp! The impact gouged a massive, deep crater into the ground, sending shards of stone flying and billowing clouds of dust into the air!
The Nine-Colored Glazed Pagoda then shrank once more, flying back to settle within Jiang Bai’s hand.
The dust began to settle. The group of black-armored knights lay sprawled upon the ground—their armor shattered, their bodies reduced to a mangled, bloody mess.
At that very moment, a solitary black figure materialized out of thin air, appearing directly before Jiang Bai. It was a woman; her face was veiled in black gauze, and her figure was lithe and graceful. A tight-fitting black outfit accentuated her exquisite curves. Her eyes held a mixture of surprise and wariness.
"Sir, barging into the City of Slaughter in such a manner is punishable," her voice was cool and detached, yet carried a hint of deference.
Jiang Bai looked at her and spoke indifferently, "Tell the King of Slaughter to come out and see me."
The woman’s brows furrowed slightly. However, she said nothing more; she simply nodded. "Please wait."
Her figure vanished from where she stood.
...
A dark and spacious chamber. In the center sat an exceptionally massive throne; its backrest towered high, and its armrests were inlaid with blue and violet crystals. Aside from this throne, everything else in the room was a deep, dark red—dark red walls, a dark red carpet, and a dark red vaulted ceiling.
The woman knelt on one knee and spoke respectfully, "My Great King, that man wishes to see you."
A tall figure sat upon the massive throne. Shrouded in darkness, his features were indistinguishable; one could only vaguely discern that he possessed a lean, elongated frame, and that a pair of wings seemed to sprout from his back.
"Did he say who he was?"
The woman shook her head. "This subordinate was foolish and failed to ask. However, his aura is immensely powerful—he is, at the very least, a Super Douluo."
Silence. A moment later, the tall figure rose to his feet.
"Forcing his way into the City of Slaughter, just to see me?" His voice was low and hoarse, tinged with both puzzlement and intrigue. "Who could it be?"
He pondered the question, yet no answer came to mind. Relatives or friends of this body he currently inhabited? He could recall no such individuals.
"Come. Let us go see."
His figure vanished from the throne.
...
In the plaza, Jiang Bai stood with his hands clasped behind his back.
The space before him rippled and distorted, and a tall figure materialized out of thin air.
It was a lean, slender man with a pale complexion and deep-set features. His eyes were a vivid blood-red, resembling a pair of gleaming rubies.
Sprouting from his back was a pair of massive bat-like wings, their black membranes crisscrossed with intricate patterns of dark red. He was clad in a dark crimson robe, its hem trailing along the ground like flowing blood.
The King of Slaughter—or rather, the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King.
His aura was both potent and eerie. The oppressive might of a Level 99 Peerless Douluo permeated the air with palpable density, causing the very atmosphere around him to warp and distort.
Yet, he merely stood there, making no move whatsoever.
Jiang Bai gazed at him, a glint of sharp determination flashing in his eyes.
The Sixth Trial: Slay a single Level 99 Peerless Douluo, or three Titled Douluos of Level 95 or higher.
Where on earth was he supposed to find three Titled Douluos of Level 95 or higher? They were all members of the Spirit Hall!
Thus, he had chosen the former option.
The King of Slaughter standing before him had been parasitized by the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King; while the entity had seized control of the body and dominated its consciousness, it had not diminished Tang Chen’s inherent foundation—his peak Level 99 Soul Power and his demi-god physique.
Moreover, although the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King occupied the body, it lacked the knowledge to wield the Clear Sky Hammer or execute Tang Chen’s combat techniques; consequently, it was unable to unleash the full combat potential of a Level 99 Peerless Douluo.
Therefore, the difficulty of this challenge was not particularly high.
The King of Slaughter spoke, his voice deep and resonant: "Who are you? Why do you trespass upon the City of Slaughter?"
Jiang Bai met his gaze, the corners of his lips curling upward slightly: "I came for you."
The King of Slaughter was taken aback: "For me?"
Jiang Bai nodded: "Indeed. I came to kill you."
The King of Slaughter froze for a moment, then erupted in a fit of rage! His blood-red eyes blazed with blinding light, and the bat wings upon his back suddenly unfurled, blotting out the very sky!
"Audacious!" His voice boomed like a clap of thunder, echoing throughout the grand hall.
"You insolent brat! This is the City of Slaughter! How dare you mock this King in such a manner!"
He raised his right hand, clenching his fingers as if grasping at empty air.
A dark crimson longsword materialized in his hand. Its blade was slender and elegant, shimmering with a dark red radiance as if forged from solidified blood. Embedded within the hilt was a single blood-red gem, exuding an aura that was both eerie and terrifying.
The Asura Demonic Sword! "Die!"
The King of Slaughter let out a furious roar and slashed out with his sword!
