Chapter 250: Chapter 250 Ge Long: The advantage is ours!
Meanwhile, over the past fortnight, the Spirit Hall had not been idle.
They utilized this time to thoroughly consolidate the resources of the Barak Kingdom.
The Barak Kingdom was the most powerful of the four major kingdoms under the Heaven Dou Empire, boasting immense resources.
From Barak’s royal treasury, the Spirit Hall secured vast quantities of gold spirit coins, provisions, and weaponry—enough to sustain an army of tens of thousands for several months.
More importantly, Barak’s regular army underwent a complete reorganization.
Barak had originally maintained a standing army of over 100,000 troops; however, the majority had either scattered or been captured when their cities fell.
The Spirit Hall recruited 100,000 new soldiers from across Barak’s territories and selected another 100,000 able-bodied men from among the prisoners of war; these troops were then retrained and integrated into their own ranks.
Consequently, the Spirit Hall’s military presence within Barak—which had initially consisted of a mere 20,000 Spirit Master troops—rapidly swelled to a force exceeding 200,000.
Qian Renxue dispatched Spirit Douluo Lingyuan to garrison Barak, thereby ensuring the stability of their rear.
She then issued orders to Yulong and Spirit Douluo Cipeng to continue leading their troops in an assault on the Haagen-Dazs Kingdom.
Concurrently, she dispatched Spirit Douluo Moxiong and Spirit Douluo Guibao from Spirit City to lead a separate Spirit Master army in a flanking maneuver, launching an attack on the Haagen-Dazs Kingdom from the opposite direction.
Like a pair of pincers, these two massive armies converged simultaneously to encircle the Haagen-Dazs Kingdom.
...
The Haagen-Dazs Kingdom.
Inside the royal palace, the King gazed at the two pleas for aid clutched in his hands, his face ashen with dread.
"Your Majesty, the Spirit Hall’s two armies are bearing down upon our borders simultaneously; we stand absolutely no chance of holding them off!" A court minister knelt upon the floor, his voice trembling with fear.
"Send for aid! Send an urgent plea for assistance to Heaven Dou City!" the King rasped.
The messenger set out that very night, galloping furiously toward Heaven Dou City.
...
Heaven Dou City.
Emperor Xue Ye gazed at the plea for aid in his hands, his expression growing even grimmer.
The Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs was in distress.
The Kingdom of Gulei was also in distress.
For the armies of the Star Luo Empire had already crossed the border and were currently attacking the Kingdom of Gulei.
Two kingdoms were in peril simultaneously, yet he had no troops left at his disposal.
Ge Long had already led the Empire’s main force southward; now, he had only the Imperial Guard remaining—a force required to defend the capital—leaving him with no soldiers to dispatch.
Emperor Xue Ye sat upon his Dragon Throne, looking like nothing more than a helpless husband.
What was to be done?
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Summon a messenger! Send word to Ge Long. Ask if he can spare any troops to assist the Kingdoms of Haagen-Dazs and Gulei."
...
When Ge Long received the message, he was at the border of the Kingdom of Silves, reorganizing his troops.
After reading the letter, his brows furrowed deeply.
Split his forces?
The Spirit Hall was already a formidable foe, difficult to contend with; now he was expected to divide his army as well?
He hesitated for a moment, gazing at the positions of the Kingdoms of Haagen-Dazs and Gulei on the map, before finally reaching a decision.
He would not split his forces.
He would devote his entire strength to supporting the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs.
As for the Kingdom of Gulei—though the Star Luo Empire’s army was advancing aggressively, their progress was slow.
Moreover, the Kingdom of Gulei had not had many of its own troops redeployed elsewhere, so they should be able to hold out for a while.
However, if the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs were to fall, the Spirit Hall would pose a direct threat to the southern heartland of the Heaven Dou Empire.
Ge Long issued the command: "All units, advance! Our objective: the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs!" "
...
However, Ge Long had still underestimated the might of the Spirit Hall.
Leading an army of five hundred thousand, he marched day and night; yet, by the time he reached the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs, it was already too late.
The two major cities of the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs had already fallen to the Spirit Hall.
The four Titled Douluo—Porcupinefish, Jade Dragon, Demon Bear, and Ghost Leopard—had personally led the charge.
Each of them had stormed into a city alone; after eliminating the enemy’s high command, they allowed the army to move in and seize the city. They swept through the land unopposed, advancing with unstoppable momentum.
The garrisons defending those cities were utterly powerless to withstand the Spirit Hall’s ferocious offensive. Under the bombardment of various Spirit Skills, the city gates shattered into splinters.
In a mere ten days, the Kingdom of Haagen-Dazs had effectively fallen under the control of the Spirit Hall.
When Ge Long finally arrived with his army, he could only station his troops in Silvis City within the Kingdom of Silvis, establishing a standoff across the river against the forces of the Spirit Hall.
...
Spirit City—The Papal Palace.
Qian Renxue perused the latest battle report, her brows furrowed slightly.
The report stated: The Star Luo Empire had dispatched the Imperial Uncle, Zhu Di, to lead an army of three hundred thousand north from the Kingdom of Xingyao, launching an assault on the Kingdom of Gulei—a vassal state of the Heaven Dou Empire.
The Gulei Kingdom’s forces had put up a tenacious resistance, causing the Star Luo army’s advance to be slow and arduous.
Qian Renxue set aside the battle report and fell into deep contemplation for a moment.
The Star Luo Empire was clearly attempting to fish in troubled waters.
Seeing that the Spirit Hall had launched an offensive against the Heaven Dou Empire, they sought to seize a share of the spoils for themselves.
"They certainly have quite the appetite." Qian Renxue gave a cold sneer.
She rose to her feet, walked over to the map, and gazed in the direction of the Star Luo Empire.
At present, the Spirit Hall possessed ample top-tier combat power, yet their actual troop numbers were limited. They were compelled to divert a portion of their forces to garrison the occupied territories; otherwise, effective control would be impossible to maintain.
If they were to engage in a two-front war right now, their forces would be dangerously dispersed.
Qian Renxue tapped her finger against the map, and a decision was made.
First, they would go all out to conquer the Heaven Dou Empire.
Once the Heaven Dou Empire had completely fallen, they would turn back to deal with the Star Luo Empire.
To think they dared to try and snatch the spoils of victory right out from under her nose?
Just you wait.
...
Silves City.
Ge Long stood atop the city walls, gazing out at the distant encampment of the Spirit Hall forces with a grave expression.
He knew better than anyone else that time was running out.
Currently, the Spirit Hall’s primary weakness lay in its limited troop numbers. They were forced to allocate a portion of their forces to garrison the occupied zones; without doing so, effective governance would be impossible.
However, if the Spirit Hall were granted sufficient time, they would be able to fully assimilate the resources of the occupied territories, reorganize their prisoners of war, and vastly expand their army.
By that time, the Spirit Hall’s military might would only continue to grow—becoming ever larger and ever stronger.
Therefore, he had to seize a strategic opportunity as quickly as possible.
He had to win a decisive victory before the Spirit Hall could firmly establish its foothold.
Ge Long clenched his fists, his gaze burning with fierce determination.
He took a deep breath, then turned and descended from the city walls.
"Summon all the generals! We hold council!"
...
Inside the command tent in Silves City, the generals had all gathered.
Ge Long stood before the map, his finger tracing along the border shared by the Haagen-Dazs Kingdom and the Silves Kingdom as he spoke in a deep, resonant voice:
"The Haagen-Dazs Kingdom—throughout history, it has been the site of over fifty large-scale military campaigns. The rights and wrongs, the twists and turns of those conflicts, are too complex to fully recount. Yet, historians unanimously observe that it is precisely upon this ancient battlefield that the fates of countless kingdoms and feudal states have been decided—witnessing the rise and fall, the waxing and waning of empires. Thus, an ancient adage persists: ’He who conquers this land holds the key to dominion over the entire continent.’"
"In years past, Emperor Xuebi led the grand army of the Heaven Dou Empire, advancing along three separate routes to converge upon Haagen-Dazs before launching a massive southward campaign."
"On the second day of the siege upon Haagen-Dazs City, King Haagen-Dazs, realizing that the tide had irrevocably turned against him, declared the entire kingdom’s allegiance to the Heaven Dou Empire."
"In the year 2611 of the Douluo Calendar, I had the honor of personally leading hundreds of thousands of valiant troops to quell the rebel forces within the kingdom—a campaign that ended in a resounding victory."
"I simply do not understand!"
"Why is everyone talking about the Spirit Hall’s great victory at Barak and their sweeping conquest of the continent, as if this Haagen-Dazs battlefield is destined to be nothing but a grave for my Heaven Dou army?"
"Twenty years ago, I set forth from the Imperial City of Heaven Dou to embark upon the second campaign to suppress rebellion; in doing so, I brought the entire territory of Heaven Dou under unified rule."
"Wherever I, your Marshal, and my army marched, the populace welcomed us with open arms. It truly felt as though the very heavens favored our cause—that vibrant atmosphere of surging vitality and flourishing growth remains as vivid in my mind today as if it happened but yesterday."
"Yet now, a mere twenty years later, has this place truly become destined to serve as my final resting place?"
"No matter how one looks at it, in terms of combat strength, the numbers stand at 500,000 against 150,000. The advantage lies with us!"
A general spoke up hesitantly: "Marshal, but Spirit Hall possesses Title Douluo..."
Ge Long cut him off: "While Title Douluo are indeed powerful, they are not invincible. Provided we can pin them down—preventing their Title Douluo from ever having the opportunity to strike—we can secure victory through the sheer weight of our superior numbers."
A sharp glint flashed in his eyes: "Spirit Hall’s greatest weakness right now is the dispersion of their forces. They are compelled to garrison various cities across both the Haagen-Dazs and Barak Kingdoms; the actual combat troops they can muster for a decisive battle against us will not exceed 100,000."
"We, however, can concentrate our entire force to launch a battle of total annihilation."
"So long as we win this battle, we can completely turn the tide of the entire war."
The assembled generals exchanged glances, a spark of renewed confidence kindling in their eyes.
"Marshal, give the order!"
Ge Long nodded.
His gaze settled upon a small city situated right along the border between the Haagen-Dazs Kingdom and the Silves Kingdom.
That place marked the forward position of Spirit Hall’s army.
"Issue the command: at dawn tomorrow, the entire army advances!"
