Chapter 949: Chapter 942: A Night as Husband and Wife (Part 1)
Tiana Thorne took another small sip of her cocktail and looked at Eugene Dawson, who was walking toward her. Her posture was lazy but still polite as she gently swirled the wine in her glass.
Eugene Dawson downed his drink in one go before saying, "We’ve wrapped. Who knows when we’ll get to work together again."
Taking the opportunity, Tiana voiced her idea: "My company has a drama in the pipeline. Once everything’s set, we’re going to start shooting. I was wondering if Director Grant and Director Dawson might be interested in checking it out and directing this one."
At that, the two men exchanged a look.
Eugene Dawson immediately said, "Of course, no problem."
A hundred percent backing for Tiana Thorne.
Mabel Hughes couldn’t get a word in on what everyone was discussing. Standing off to the side, she felt completely left out.
Looking at her, May Sloane couldn’t help thinking of something Tiana had said before, an internet phrase: "If it’s not your circle, don’t force your way in."
Mabel originally had circles where she could shine, but she just had to force herself into this one, which only made her invisible.
Of course, May knew exactly what Tiana meant—this drama was something Tiana had prepared for her and Lord Xiao Four.
Everyone clinked glasses again.
Right then, the doors of the banquet hall opened.
People turned their heads. When they saw the man in the wheelchair, they all froze, especially May Sloane. Fragmented images flooded her mind, leaving her completely at a loss.
At that moment, Dalton Grant hurried over to greet him. "Lennon, how are you feeling? Any better?"
Julian Eames sat in the wheelchair and lifted his gaze, looking over at May Sloane standing beside Tiana Thorne. His eyes narrowed slightly, his expression dark and unreadable.
"Yeah."
Dalton Grant pushed Julian Eames closer before explaining, "I went to the hospital to see Lennon and invited him to come. We’re one crew, one team—of course we can’t be missing anyone."
Tiana Thorne saw that he didn’t seem too badly hurt, just some bandages on his leg. Just like May had said, it was a second injury.
Julian Eames’s gaze drifted to May Sloane, seemingly unintentionally, and he curved his lips. "Long time no see."
Julian Ford walked over to him and patted his shoulder lightly. "Bro, thanks."
This was the first time he’d thanked him face-to-face.
Julian Eames shook his head. "It was nothing."
Tiana Thorne couldn’t help laughing. This was "nothing"?
That hand had almost been raised for the last time—nearly snapped right off.
Julian Eames’s arrival drew a crowd, everyone surrounding him, fussing over him and asking after him, and he answered them one by one.
Seeing this, May Sloane couldn’t digest what had happened before. She headed outside.
Julian Eames glanced back just in time to see her walking away. "Sorry, excuse me for a bit," he said.
Tiana Thorne watched every move the two of them made from behind. She didn’t interrupt and didn’t follow; instead, she and Julian Ford sat on the sofa by the window, enjoying the view and chatting.
May Sloane stepped out onto the balcony, looking at the city’s scattered lights. For the first time, her mind felt this chaotic.
As long as she stayed in showbiz, she would keep running into Julian Eames.
They were going to be seeing each other all the time—how was that supposed to work?
The more she thought about it, the more stifled she felt.
She had to find a time to make things clear with Julian Eames. They couldn’t leave it this muddled—she didn’t owe him anything.
Right.
Exactly!
Spell it out.
"May Sloane."
Suddenly, Julian Eames’s voice sounded behind her, making her jump. She spun around at once and saw him sitting in the wheelchair, his face still pale.
May Sloane froze, then, a few seconds later, she was thoroughly annoyed. "What are you doing here? You didn’t make a sound—you scared me half to death."
Julian Eames said, "I followed you out."
May Sloane took a step back, looking at him with full-on wariness. "What do you want?"
"I wanted to talk to you. About that night..."
He hadn’t even finished when May Sloane rushed to cut him off. "Don’t. Don’t say it. That night, let’s just call it mutual consent after drinking. Don’t feel pressured. As far as I’m concerned, it’s already forgotten."
Hearing that, Julian Eames frowned. "Really?"
"Of course. I, May Sloane, have seen all kinds of men. You’re just a passerby. Besides, you already had so many scandalous rumors with other girls before, right? Just treat me as one of them. I don’t need you to take responsibility."
As she spoke, she quietly watched his expression, afraid she hadn’t been clear enough, so she added, "From now on, in this industry we’re bound to cross paths. Don’t keep dwelling on what happened that night. On my end, it’s already erased."
Julian Eames’s brows furrowed slightly. This was what he’d wanted all along, yet for some reason, his chest felt inexplicably heavy and uncomfortable.
