Doomsday Rebirth: The Doctor and the General's Survival Farm
Chapter 95: The Black Moon
The deep, terrifying tremor beneath Sol Haven abruptly stopped. Absolute silence returned to the frozen wasteland, lingering like a heavy fog.
Beyond the northern battlements, the sprawling horde of icy corpses remained motionless. Their milky, clouded eyes were locked in unison toward the sharp peaks of the northern mountains.
Raviah Solomon wiped a layer of frost from her eyelashes and tilted her head upward. A sudden, unsettling shift was taking place in the dark sky directly above them.
The thick storm clouds above Sol Haven began splitting apart in jagged lines. Through the widening gap, the full moon slowly revealed itself to the frozen earth below.
Raviah’s breath hitched in her throat as she stared into the atmosphere. The lunar sphere was unnaturally massive, looming far larger than it ever had in human history.
Even more horrifying was the dark, blood-red ring encircling its outer perimeter. The crimson halo expanded rapidly, bleeding across the clouds like ink dispersing through clear water.
Rhyder Drakeheir stepped up beside her, his hand resting on the icy wall. "What is that?"
"I don’t know," Raviah whispered, her voice barely carrying over the still air.
Before the words fully left her lips, her root reacted violently inside her body. A sharp, burning pulse vibrated through her core, sending a shockwave along her spinal cord.
A second pulse followed, hitting her with twice the intensity. Then every internal energy pathway she possessed ignited at once, flooding her veins with overwhelming heat.
Across the snow-covered battlefield, the motionless zombies began convulsing in terrible rhythm. The blue crystalline structures embedded in their flesh illuminated simultaneously with blinding light.
Behind the battlements, the soldiers standing guard staggered and fell against the stone walls. Their elemental cores erupted with violent, uncontrolled surges of raw power.
"General!" a young soldier screamed, collapsing onto his knees as frostbite spread up his arms.
Another soldier shrieked in agony as bright, uncontrollable flames exploded from both of his palms. Across the northern rampart, dozens of Elementals lost control of their awakened abilities.
Wildfire spiraled wildly into the night sky, melting the falling snow instantly. Jagged arcs of lightning crawled across metal barricades, while compressed air blasts shattered nearby defensive watchtowers.
Raviah watched the chaos unfold around them, her pupils dilated with shock. "This isn’t localized to our location."
Rhyder gripped the edge of the wall, his own knuckles turning white as he fought his internal energy. "What do you mean?"
"It can’t be just here," Raviah said, her voice trembling slightly.
Closing her eyes, she forced her Root to expand outward past the fortress walls. For one terrifying second, her consciousness detached from her physical body and soared upward.
She sensed millions of distinct energy signatures flaring across the globe simultaneously. Human cores, mutated beast cores, Zerg hive networks, and the frozen zombie crystalline pathways were all vibrating in perfect harmony.
The entire planet was resonating with the moon’s crimson frequency. Raviah gasped for air as she snapped back to her physical body. "Every Core..."
Rhyder grabbed her shoulder tightly, his voice laced with rare panic. "What is happening?"
"They’re all activating," Raviah gasped, clutching her chest.
His expression hardened instantly as he realized the horrifying scope. "All of them?"
"Every single one across the planet," she confirmed, leaning into his supportive grip.
She could feel the catastrophic resonance spreading across unseen continents and vast oceans. Cities buried deep beneath snow and concrete were erupting with sudden, overwhelming power.
Elementals who had awakened days prior were experiencing explosive, unstable surges in rank. Some advanced instantly, while others completely lost control or collapsed under the immense internal pressure.
Inside Raviah, her own root began undergoing an alarming transformation. Waves of golden energy erupted from her skin, sweeping outward across the surrounding fortress.
Her core synchronized flawlessly with the pulse beating deep within the earth beneath their feet. Her heartbeat matched the rhythm, hammering once, twice, and then accelerating into a frenzy.
Her Root was no longer merely sensing the atmospheric energy. It was actively communicating with the global network, translating the planet’s internal signals.
Flashes of vivid images flooded her vision in rapid succession. She saw the Primordial Source buried deep underground and the growing crystalline structure within her personal storage dimension.
She saw the ancient underground Core in Sector Seven, the distant Zerg nests, and the frozen zombie network. Every single phenomenon converged into one massive, unified global system.
Her knees buckled under the immense cognitive strain. "Rhyder..."
Rhyder reached out to catch her, but his body convulsed violently before his arms could reach. His own Elemental Core erupted with terrifying force, sending a shockwave through the air.
A massive surge of pale blue elemental energy exploded outward from his body. The snow beneath his combat boots evaporated into steam instantly upon contact.
"Rhyder!" Raviah cried out, stumbling toward him.
He staggered backward, his jaw clenched so tightly his teeth threatened to shatter. The blue light around him intensified, radiating blistering cold that cracked the stone floor.
"Something’s wrong with my energy," he managed to growl out through gritted teeth.
Raviah threw herself forward, realizing his core was accelerating well beyond safe operational limits. "Stop fighting the flow!"
"I can’t control it!" he yelled, his knees buckling under the pressure.
Raviah caught him right before his heavy frame struck the frozen ground. She absorbed his full weight, cradling his head against her shoulder as they hit the ice.
His breathing was shallow and ragged, his usually steady eyes closed tight in agony. Beneath his chest plate, his core pulsed with violent, erratic bursts of energy.
Focusing every shred of her willpower, Raviah pressed her bare palm against his chest armor. Golden energy poured from her root directly into his hyperactive energy pathways.
"Stay with me, Rhyder," she whispered, stabilizing his internal flow to prevent a fatal core rupture.
Around their collapsed forms, the endless chaos of the battlefield suddenly dropped into dead silence. Even the massive frozen horde beyond the walls had stopped convulsing, staring silently at the sky.
The red halo around the moon expanded until it covered the entire celestial ceiling. Simultaneously, every surviving communication screen across Sol Haven flickered to life.
Military terminals, medical monitors, civilian radios, and emergency broadcast monitors flashed in unison. Every single display went completely black for two terrifying seconds.
Then, a line of luminous text materialized across every dark screen on Earth. It was not transmitted by Sol Haven or any remaining human military command.
[SECOND EVOLUTIONARY PHASE INITIATING.]
Raviah stared up at a nearby wall terminal, her blood turning to ice in her veins.
The world was no longer merely enduring the end of civilization. It was actively evolving into something entirely new.
