Dominion of The Beast Masters

Chapter 177: Calamity’s Trail

Deep in a forest alive with vibrant greens and the earthy scent of moss and rain, Raya, Kaida, Colin, and Milo stood amidst towering trees that stretched endlessly into the sky.

Their thick canopies wove together, creating a ceiling of shimmering emerald light.

The sun’s rays barely broke through, casting soft patterns that danced on the forest floor.

Cinderblaze trotted ahead of them, its ember-tipped ears flicking as its sharp eyes scanned the surroundings.

“Are you sure it’s here?” Milo asked nervously, his voice breaking the silence. His wide eyes darted to the dark spaces between the trees as he shuffled closer to Colin.

Kaida sighed dramatically, crossing her arms.

“Trust the bunny,” she replied, smirking. “A fire beast always knows what it’s doing.”

Cinderblaze let out an amused chirrup, its tail flicking smugly as it glanced back at Milo, who muttered under his breath about trusting smug rabbits.

Raya stepped forward, her bare feet barely making a sound on the soft ground.

She reached out with her spiritual senses, her blind eyes faintly glowing. In her hand, a katana materialized, its blade shimmering with a pale energy.

The air around her shifted, becoming unnervingly still.

Kaida and Milo exchanged a worried glance.

“Raya?” Kaida asked cautiously. “Is something wrong?”

Raya’s grip tightened on her katana. She nodded, her expression calm but focused.

“Stay on guard,” she murmured. “It’s right here.”

The group tensed, scanning their surroundings. Before them, the forest appeared the same, silent and serene, with no sign of danger.

Kaida frowned, glancing around impatiently.

“Where is it, then? I don’t see anything.”

Milo’s nervousness deepened, and he took a step back.

“Maybe we should…”

Raya interrupted, her voice cutting through the tension.

“This forest… it’s a weapon.”

The words hung in the air, heavy and foreboding. Milo froze, his trembling more pronounced. Even Kaida’s smirk faltered for a moment.

Cinderblaze let out a low growl, its fiery energy starting to pulse outward. It stepped forward, its body glowing brighter as heat rippled from its body.

The calm forest responded immediately. The stillness broke as the trees seemed to shift, their branches moving like limbs.

Kaida gritted her teeth, a fierce grin spreading across her face as she cracked her knuckles.

“Oh, so

this

is what we’re dealing with…”

Raya’s blind eyes opened wide, her focus sharpening. Her katana glowed, its light piercing the thick shadows of the forest.

Cinderblaze narrowed its eyes, the fire surrounding it erupting into a domain of blazing heat. Flames surged outward, igniting the air around it.

In reaction, the forest roared.

The towering trees twisted, their trunks groaning as if awakening from a deep slumber.

Branches stretched and curled like monstrous limbs, their movements unnaturally fluid.

Leaves shimmered with an eerie glow, and the ground itself shifted, roots writhing like serpents.

The air grew dense, filled with a strange, pulsating energy. The forest had transformed into something menacing and alive.

Kaida’s grin widened, her fists clenching. “This is it.”

Raya stepped forward, her katana raised. “Prepare yourselves,” she said softly.

The living forest roared, and the battle began.

Hours later, the golden rays of the setting sun bathed the cliffside in warm, amber light, casting long shadows over the rocky terrain.

Zara stood on the edge of the cliff, her phone clutched tightly in her hand as she paced nervously.

The soft sound of waves crashing below echoed faintly, but it did little to calm her nerves.

“This was reckless,” Zara muttered. She glanced at Victoria, who stood calmly beside her, her arms crossed and her expression serene. “I mean, we’re talking about unique beasts. These things aren’t just rare, they’re above special. Above rare! Sending them after something like that feels like asking for a disaster.”

Victoria’s gaze remained fixed on the horizon, her calm demeanor unshaken.

“Eratz and Mercury assured us they could handle it,” she replied. “They’ve defeated unique beasts before, even when they were weaker. Now they have experience, strength, and strategy on their side. And remember, either Eratz or Raya is with each group. They won’t be defeated. Tamara said these beasts were powerful, precious and few, but she also defeated them more easily as time went on.”

Zara stopped pacing, turning sharply to Victoria.

“Of course, it was easier for her, she’s the strongest beast master in the world for a reason! But the others are different!” Her voice cracked slightly, betraying her mounting anxiety.

Victoria opened her mouth to respond, but the shrill ring of Zara’s phone interrupted her.

Zara flinched, her eyes darting to the screen. She hesitated, her fingers trembling slightly as she answered the call.

“Hello? Ryder?” Zara said quickly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ryder’s voice came through the phone, shaky and breathless.

“Z-Zara…” he stammered, his words uneven.

There was a long pause before he finally continued.

“It’s… it’s over,” he said, his voice trembling as if he was barely holding himself together.

Zara froze, gripping the phone tighter, her heart dropping into her stomach.

“Ryder, what do you mean? What happened?” she demanded, panic creeping into her tone.

Ryder let out a shaky exhale, steeling himself to say the words.

“Mercury… she’s…” He stopped again, his voice cracking.

Victoria tilted her head, watching Zara closely. Then, as Zara’s eyes widened, Victoria paused, lowering her gaze.

“Of course it’s dangerous,” she murmured to herself. “But I believe in the potential of this generation.”

The battlefield that was once a serene lake now bore the scars of an intense clash.

The water was turbulent, lightning arcs still crackling faintly across its surface.

The surrounding land was torn apart, with shattered rocks littering the area.

Smoke and mist mingled in the air, creating a surreal, almost haunting scene.

Standing near the shore was Eratz, his gaze fixed on Mercury, who sat against a tree, her body battered but her expression calm.

Mud clung to her clothes, and faint steam rose from her skin where remnants of her energy still lingered.

Eratz let out a small chuckle, his sharp eyes glinting.

“Beautiful job,” he said quietly.

Mercury glanced up at him, a faint smile tugging at her lips despite her exhaustion.

“That’s all I get?” she teased lightly. “Something warmer would’ve been nice coming from my man.”

Eratz crouched in front of her, bringing his forehead to hers. His voice softened.

“Oh, I knew you would pull that, never doubted it,” Eratz said, his tone steady and confident. “You’ve done more complicated challenge than this. At this point, doing a miracle is your routine. And if it can motivate you, you’re also fighting against me. If you fail, I take the beast.”

Mercury’s smile widened, and a faint heat graced her cheeks.

“I’ll ignore the nonsense you added to break the mood,” she replied, “but now… I’ll have to keep living up to that reputation.”

Eratz leaned back, his smirk returning.

“You will, easier than you think.”

Kaida sat on a burnt log, her clothes covered in soot. She chuckled softly, her gaze fixed on Cinderblaze, who dropped to its knees with a triumphant war cry.

Its fiery mane flared brightly, embers scattering into the air like fireflies.

“That’s one hell of a beast,” Kaida said, her voice filled with awe.

Nearby, Raya stood silently, her katana resting in the ash beside her.

She let out a quiet sigh then smiled faintly.

Colin was on her knees, her healing flames swirling gently around her body and Milo’s.

Milo, who had been unconscious moments ago, stirred and blinked his eyes open, groaning softly.

Colin, her phone in hands, was kneeling beside him and smiled warmly, her voice gentle.

“Ah, finally awake.”

Nearby, his fairy fluttered around, releasing a soft mist of healing energy. Colin’s flames intertwined with the fairy’s mist, creating a calming, almost magical glow around them.

Milo squinted up at her, his expression groggy.

“Did I… did I get knocked out?” he muttered weakly.

Colin gave him a small nod, her tone playful.

“Yeah. You slipped on a rock and knocked yourself out cold.”

Milo’s brow furrowed, confusion quickly turning into indignation.

“… No. No, you’re lying!” He pushed himself up slightly, glaring at her. “I remember everything. I fought too, I got knocked by an evil branch. You always try to belittle me, you… evil person!”

Colin chuckled, clearly amused.

“Ryder! What kind of way is that to say you won?! You nearly gave me a heart attack!”

On the other end, Ryder laughed, clearly enjoying himself.

“What? I wanted to add a little suspense! Make it memorable, you know?”

Catarina’s voice chimed in, laughing alongside him.

“You’re the worst, Ryder nya.”

Zara groaned loudly, her frustration spilling over.

“I hate both of you!”

Victoria, slightly laughing, reached out and took the phone from Zara, her voice smooth and composed.

“Everyone, listen up,” she said. “Great job. You were all amazing. Congratulations on today’s victories, now we know it’s doable. You’ve earned this moment, you’re really amazing. Rest for today, tomorrow, we take the world.”
