Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich
Chapter 105: Meng Nan
Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Meng Nan
The Jin guard was about to speak again, but Bai Zhi, perhaps in a moment of madness, boldly interjected, "That physician is indeed a quack."
The Jin guard immediately shot Bai Zhi a vicious glare. "What do you know? Who do you think you are, interrupting him?"
The man, however, was intrigued by Bai Zhi’s sudden interruption. He pushed the Jin guard aside and said to Bai Zhi, "Go on."
Bai Zhi smiled faintly. When it came to medicine, she immediately grew more composed and self-assured.
"Sir, the ulcers on your face... they’ve been there for at least half a month, haven’t they?"
The man raised an eyebrow but didn’t speak, his gaze remaining fixed on her.
Bai Zhi knew she was right and continued, "The medicine the physician prescribed for you isn’t harmful, and it won’t make your condition worse, but it won’t help you either. To be blunt, it can’t cure you at all."
"How do you know what medicine the physician prescribed for me?" the man asked.
Bai Zhi smiled faintly. "There’s a pile of medicinal dregs in the corner of the courtyard—that’s what you’re taking internally. You also have a poultice on your face. Even with the strong incense in this room, it can’t cover up the scent of the ointment mixed with the smell of your rotting skin. I knew as soon as I smelled it."
The man’s eyes crinkled with obvious amusement. "So, you’re a physician, too?" As he spoke, he deliberately scanned her up and down. ’A girl this young... she can’t be more than twelve or thirteen. With that sallow complexion, she’s clearly from a poor family. She’s probably never even attended school. How could she possibly know medicine?’
Bai Zhi smiled faintly. "I wouldn’t call myself a physician; I just know a little. It seems you don’t believe me, Sir."
Though he didn’t believe her, he still found the girl interesting. "It’s not that I don’t believe you. It’s just that you haven’t said anything truly convincing yet."
Bai Zhi’s lips curved into a smile. ’Convincing words? That’s easy enough.’
"Sir, the ulcers on your face aren’t from an illness. I’m afraid you’ve been poisoned. It’s from a venomous creature that feeds on human blood—a Blood Spider. Am I right?"
The Jin guard’s expression changed, and his hand immediately went to the hilt of the sword at his waist. "Who are you? How could you possibly know that?"
Bai Zhi’s expression remained placid. "I told you already. I knew just by the smell. You were the ones who didn’t believe me."
The man waved a hand at the Jin guard. "Calm down. She’s just a little girl. Is all this really necessary?"
The Jin guard’s face flushed slightly. ’He knew she didn’t know any martial arts the moment she walked in. She was no threat to him or the young master.’
The man asked, "Does that mean you can cure me?"
Bai Zhi shrugged. "I can, but I don’t have time right now. I have to wait until this mess back home is sorted out. I won’t be in the mood to help until then."
The man burst out laughing and pointed a finger at Bai Zhi. "You really don’t hold back, do you, girl? Fine. I’ll go with you to Huangtuo Village and help you settle this wrongful case."
Bai Zhi quickly curtsied to him. "Thank you, Sir."
The man said, "My surname is Meng."
Bai Zhi replied with a smile, "My surname is Bai. I am Bai Zhi."
The man said with a laugh, "I didn’t ask for your name."
Bai Zhi laughed as well. "It’s only polite to reciprocate!"
The man was greatly amused. ’This girl is really something else.’
The Jin guard started to laugh along with them. ’It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the young master this happy.’
The three of them left Meng Hall and started walking out, following the path Bai Zhi had used to enter. A Maid from the inner courtyard came rushing out. Perhaps her vision was blurred by sweat, as she didn’t even see them on the path and ran right into them, knocking Bai Zhi to the ground.
