Zhang Heng looked quite mature for his age. He was about five-foot-nine, with a square face and a full beard that, despite being trimmed, still showed a faint, short stubble.

Zhang Heng exuded an air of confidence and composure. As a deputy chief physician from Jin Province Tumor Hospital who had deigned to come to City First Hospital, he naturally carried a certain pride.

Beside him was a petite, dark-skinned young woman. Although her complexion was deep, her features were delicate. Her eyes were particularly bright and full of life, and with her rosy lips, white teeth, and faint smile, she possessed a unique kind of beauty.

Guo Guoguo was a top graduate from Yacheng Hospital. Despite her youth, she possessed a strong clinical aptitude and served as Zhang Heng’s right-hand woman. One of his conditions for joining City First Hospital was that he bring Guo Guoguo with him.

After Director Huo welcomed the two, the other doctors in the department applauded in greeting.

Wu Ting, however, was away for advanced studies at Haijin Port and missed Zhang Heng’s first-day appearance.

After greeting everyone, Zhang Heng gave a brief self-introduction. In just a few sentences, he listed his clinical achievements and research awards, filling the audience with respect and admiration.

Afterward, Zhang Heng expressed his willingness to advance and grow together with the doctors of City First Hospital.

Once the pleasantries and formalities were over, Zhang Heng wasted no more time and directly asked Director Huo to begin preparations for the upcoming surgeries.

Furthermore, before officially starting his work, he wanted Huo Yun to help him invite the directors of Hepatobiliary Surgery and the Infectious Diseases Department for a meeting.

Huo Yun wasn’t sure what Zhang Heng had up his sleeve. Still, it was his first day, so Huo Yun was determined to give him all the respect he was due and provide all the necessary support.

The other doctors in the Emergency Department returned to their posts. Once Director Zhang’s surgeries began, doctors from the relevant fields would go to observe and learn.

In the Emergency Department’s large conference room, Huo Yun soon invited over Cai Qi, Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery, and Director Mao, head of the Infectious Diseases Department.

Huo Yun immediately made the introductions.

Director Cai and Director Mao were quite curious about this new deputy director recruited from Jin Province Tumor Hospital and looked forward to seeing his performance.

Zhang Heng gestured to Guo Guoguo beside him. She then distributed a prepared introduction to a research project to each of the directors.

"Since I’m new to City First Hospital, I will need your full support. The patients I will be operating on will not only involve laparoscopic procedures but will also be related to the fields of hepatobiliary surgery and infectious diseases. In particular, the core of my current research project is the minimally invasive treatment of patients with mid- to late-stage primary liver cancer caused by hepatitis B."

"Therefore, in addition to the support from our research center, I will also need the assistance of the Hepatobiliary Surgery and Infectious Diseases Departments."

"This is the preliminary concept and plan for my research project. I want to gradually establish transcatheter arterial chemoembolization here at City First Hospital, as well as a combined antiviral therapy approach."

In Hepatobiliary Surgery, only Director Cai is capable of leading a team to perform it, but she lacks the team members."

"Therefore, my plan is to initially build a team around my assistant, Dr. Guo, and myself. We will then gradually roll out transcatheter arterial chemoembolization as a routine treatment, followed by the combined antiviral therapy surgeries."

"Dr. Guo and I certainly won’t have the time and energy to handle this alone. Therefore, I hope that the Hepatobiliary Surgery, Infectious Diseases, and our own Emergency departments can jointly select two to three doctors to join my project team."

Zhang Heng looked at the three directors and continued his confident presentation:

"If my project is successful, it will be a major breakthrough in the field of hepatitis B-related liver cancer. You don’t need to worry about funding for the project; I am confident I can secure a national scientific research grant next year... Moreover, before bringing this project here, I discussed its potential and prospects with my own director, as well as Professor Ma Mengchao of Qinghe City Jiuhua Hospital, who is a senior colleague of my mentor."
