Chapter 501: Chapter 400: Heartache for Dad

The girl had to come looking for her mother every few days.

Instead of pushing the door right open, Tongtong raised her hand and knocked politely.

"Come in." Jun Qingmeng’s cool, queenly voice drifted from the office.

Her voice could be sweet, or it could be commanding.

"Mommy, what’s wrong?"

"Come here, let Mommy give you a hug."

"Okay."

Jiang Tongtong sat on Jun Qingmeng’s lap, the smile on her face brightening a little.

’I miss Daddy.’

Jun Qingmeng stroked Tongtong’s hair. "Mommy has something to tell you. I want you to listen and then tell me what you really think, okay?"

"Okay. Go ahead, Mommy."

Jun Qingmeng then told Tongtong about Li Xiaoyan trashing Jiang Liu’s shop and even showed her the video for confirmation.

After watching, Jiang Tongtong’s fists clenched uncontrollably. Her little face twisted in anger as she said, "It’s that bad woman again!!"

"They’re bad people! The worst bad people in the world! When Daddy was with those two before, they badmouthed him behind his back every day and made him do all the chores! They even stole Daddy’s house!!"

"Daddy was finally starting to feel better, and now they want to trash his shop! All they ever do is bully Daddy!"

Jiang Tongtong grew agitated, and as she spoke, traitorous tears streamed from her eyes.

There was a reason why this five-year-old girl was so obedient, polite, and mature for her age.

Back when Jiang Liu was still married to Yang Yixue.

Every day, Tongtong watched her father suffer, watched him pinch pennies just to buy her new clothes and tasty treats.

Back then, Tongtong’s heart had cried for him.

’Now Daddy is doing better.’

’And they want Daddy’s recipe.’

’Daddy gave it to them for my sake.’

’And now they want to trash his shop!’

’Bad people!’

’The worst bad people in the world!’

"Don’t cry, don’t cry. It’s okay, Tongtong."

Jun Qingmeng’s heart ached as she wiped away Tongtong’s tears.

But now, Tongtong’s tears flowed as if a long-sealed floodgate had been thrown open.

"Tongtong, listen. Your grandpa heard what happened, and he sent me to ask you what you think. He can make those two disappear from your father’s world, but he’s a little worried that you might be sad..."

"No! Tongtong wouldn’t be sad at all!" Jiang Tongtong shook her head vigorously.

"You’re Tongtong’s good mommy! Tongtong only has one mommy, and that’s you!"

Tongtong buried her face in Jun Qingmeng’s chest and said in a choked voice:

"All they do is bully people! That Yang Yixue... she gave birth to me. For that reason, I thought maybe I could give her some money when she gets old. But she’s the one who completely abandoned me! I have nothing to do with her anymore!"

Jiang Tongtong and Jiang Liu were very similar in personality.

Once they made up their minds about something, they never looked back.

If people were good to them, they would be good in return. If people were bad to them, they would never be good to those people.

Jun Qingmeng smiled. ’This child is just like her father.’

’They both have such black-and-white personalities.’

’Genetics are a funny thing.’

"Tongtong, that serious expression you just had looks a lot like your dad’s. You’re like a little girl version of him."

"Really?"

Hearing her mommy say she was like her daddy, Jiang Tongtong’s mood instantly lifted.

"Yes!"

"See? I told you Daddy inherited it from Tongtong."

From their looks to their personalities, she and Jiang Liu were like they were carved from the same mold.

The only exception was Tongtong’s hair; it wasn’t coarse like Jiang Liu’s, but fine and soft, an inheritance from Yang Yixue.

"You’ve cried your face into a mess again. If you go out like this, the other kids will laugh at you, won’t they?"

"Hehe."

Jun Qingmeng took out a wet wipe to clean Tongtong’s face, then stood up. "Wait here a moment, sweetie. Mommy is going to get you a treat."

’A treat?’

Tongtong’s eyes lit up with anticipation.

The school office had a small refrigerator where the teachers kept their snacks.

Jun Qingmeng pulled a palm-sized, creamy ice cream bar from the bottom of the fridge.

"Wow! It’s an ice cream bar!"

Jiang Tongtong rushed over and hugged Jun Qingmeng’s leg. "Mommy, I love you!"

Her little tummy was already craving it.

’Hehe, a sweet ice cream bar?’

’This poor girl hasn’t had one in a long, long, long time!’

Jun Qingmeng smiled and said, "I can’t give you this whole ice cream bar. We’ll split it, half and half. Otherwise, if you get a stomachache, your daddy will definitely get angry with me."

Jiang Tongtong giggled. "Don’t worry, Mommy. Even if Tongtong gets a tummy ache, Daddy won’t get mad at you.

You know, one time when Daddy was sleeping, I accidentally squished his finger, but he didn’t get mad. He even bought me snacks afterward!"

Tongtong clearly remembered an incident from when she was four. Jiang Liu had been napping on the sofa.

She had been running around the living room and, feeling sleepy, decided to pounce into her daddy’s arms. She accidentally landed with her knee on his finger, which swelled up immediately.

The little girl was so scared and felt so bad that she burst into tears on the spot.

Jun Qingmeng suddenly asked, "Tongtong, what if you hurt me? What would your daddy do then?"

Jiang Tongtong jumped in surprise.

She quickly shook her head. "No way! If Tongtong hurt Mommy, Daddy would definitely spank me! A really hard spanking!"

She was most afraid of Jiang Liu spanking her hard.

One time, she’d been throwing a tantrum, and Daddy had spanked her bottom until it was bright red—the same color as the red lights Mommy talked about.

Jun Qingmeng smiled. "See? So if Mommy lets Tongtong get a stomachache, your daddy would get mad at me too, you know?"

"Hehe."

The mother and daughter shared a look, stuck out their tongues, and came to a silent, mischievous understanding.

They happily split the ice cream bar.

"Mommy, you can’t secretly tell Daddy, okay!"

"If he doesn’t ask, I won’t tell."

"Hehe." Jiang Tongtong laughed triumphantly.

’She was an obedient, good girl, and Mommy was too.’

’Neither of them would lie to Daddy.’

’If Daddy asked, the little cutie would just have to confess.’

’But if Daddy didn’t ask, then the little cutie and Mommy would both get away with half an ice cream bar!’

"So, Tongtong, what should I tell your grandpa?"

Tongtong put down her ice cream bar, her brow furrowed in a way that was a perfect miniature of Jiang Liu’s. She said seriously, "Mommy, just tell Grandpa that Tongtong only has one mommy."

"Tongtong wants Grandpa to protect Daddy and make sure he never has to be angry or sad again. You know, Mommy, even though Daddy tries not to let us know he’s upset, every time *that person* shows up in his world, he’s always a little unhappy."

Even though Jiang Liu didn’t care about Yang Yixue,

seeing her always left a bad taste in his mouth.

The things she had done were simply too infuriating and repulsive.

As Jiang Liu’s daughter, Tongtong could always sense when her father’s mood soured.

"Okay, I understand."

Jun Qingmeng’s expression turned a little cold. "Don’t worry. I’ll have your grandpa protect your dad."

"Okay! Thank Grandpa for me!"

"Mhm!"

After finishing her ice cream, Jiang Tongtong happily ran downstairs to play.

Jun Qingmeng’s expression reverted to one of cool indifference. She took out her phone and called Jun Xinghe.

He picked up in two seconds.

"So, what’s the verdict?" Jun Xinghe asked immediately.

Jun Qingmeng replied, "I asked her. Tongtong has no objections. She said I’m her only mommy in the world, and she hopes her grandpa can protect her daddy."
