Chapter 222: Confession
Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Confession
Jiang Liu was utterly confused as he listened to Guo Jia.
’Little Princess of a publicly traded company?’ He couldn’t make any sense of it.
He wondered if Guo Jia was just messing with him.
Guo Jia shot Jun Qingmeng a contemptuous glance and muttered, "Look at you, you coward. What’s there to hide? He’s the one you’re sleeping with, so what are you so afraid of..."
’So embarrassing...’ Jun Qingmeng clamped a hand over Guo Jia’s mouth and pushed her far away.
"Jiang Liu, don’t listen to her nonsense. Her brain glitches sometimes. Let’s just go home."
"Okay."
The three of them returned home.
Jiang Liu went to the kitchen to wash some fruit.
Jiang Tongtong seized the opportunity to pull Jun Qingmeng aside and ask secretly, "Mommy, Mommy, are you a big president? Like one of those super powerful, super-rich bosses on TV?"
Jun Qingmeng shook her head, her expression suddenly complex. In a gentle tone, she said, "Tongtong, Mommy isn’t as amazing as you think. My dad is a big president, but I’m just ordinary."
"Whoa! That’s still amazing!"
Tongtong gave a surprised thumbs-up.
Then a thought struck her, and she asked worriedly, "Aunt Guo said you have to go back and inherit everything. If Mommy’s daddy... um, Grandpa... makes you inherit the big company, will you still be with me every day?"
She now knew about her mother’s incredible background.
She was filled with anxiety, afraid her mother would leave and abandon her and her dad.
Jiang Tongtong fiddled with the hem of her clothes, her little face tense and her eyes filled with hopeful anticipation.
Jun Qingmeng ruffled Tongtong’s hair. "Silly girl, don’t imagine the worst. Mommy won’t leave. I’ll be with you forever, so don’t worry, okay?"
"Mmm."
Worried that Tongtong might have nightmares, Jun Qingmeng continued to explain gently, "Since Mommy has already left that life, I won’t go back. Aren’t we living very happily right now? Mommy likes this a lot."
Tongtong relaxed a little, her mood brightening again.
"Mommy, let’s kiss!"
"MWUAH! Hehe, you smell so good."
Tongtong pulled Jun Qingmeng down to lie on the sofa, snuggling close.
Watching Jiang Liu’s busy figure in the kitchen, Tongtong’s heart ached for him.
Still worried, she asked again:
"Mommy, you can’t leave Daddy, you know? Daddy has been heartbroken once already, and I don’t want him to be heartbroken a second time. Can you promise Tongtong, please?"
She didn’t want her dad to get hurt again.
The little darling would cry in secret.
Jun Qingmeng said seriously, "As long as your daddy doesn’t make a mistake that I can’t forgive, I won’t leave him."
Tongtong let out a huge sigh of relief. She waved her little hands forward energetically, mimicking the motion of hitting Jiang Liu.
"That’s good. From now on, Tongtong will keep an eye on him. If he dares to misbehave, we’ll see if Tongtong doesn’t beat him to a pulp."
Jiang Liu came out of the kitchen with a plate of kiwi fruit. "What are you two talking about?"
Feeling a pang of guilt, Tongtong immediately replied obediently, "Nothing, Daddy. We were just praising you."
Jiang Liu placed the plate on the coffee table and picked up a softened kiwi to peel.
"President Jun, shall I peel a piece of fruit for you?"
’President Jun??...’
Jun Qingmeng shot Jiang Liu a look. "You’re planning on making fun of me, aren’t you?"
Jiang Liu smiled, picked up Tongtong, who was eating kiwi, and looked at Jun Qingmeng as he spoke.
"I’ve always felt you weren’t an ordinary person. At first, I thought your family might just be well-off, but I never expected it to be more absurd than I imagined."
"I think that as boyfriend and girlfriend, you should probably tell me about your family situation, don’t you think?"
Jun Qingmeng remained silent.
"Hard to talk about?" Jiang Liu asked.
He had been curious about his girlfriend’s family before, but after hearing what Guo Jia said today, he wanted to know even more.
Not knowing anything about his own girlfriend’s family made him feel like an inadequate boyfriend.
Jun Qingmeng bit her lip. "Jiang Liu, I don’t want to talk about it. Is it okay if I don’t? I don’t know how to start."
Jiang Liu nodded. "Of course. It’s your right whether you tell me or not. I have no right to interfere."
Although he was curious, it wasn’t something he absolutely had to know. Since his girlfriend was unwilling to tell him, Jiang Liu couldn’t be bothered to ask again.
"Huh? Ah?"
Jun Qingmeng looked at Jiang Liu’s calm expression, and her heart plunged into chaos.
She grabbed Jiang Liu’s hand in fear, saying pitifully, "Are you angry?"
"Promise me you’re not upset, okay?"
Her boyfriend’s sudden lack of persistence made her feel very insecure.
That’s what it’s like to be love-struck.
Constantly worrying about one’s place in the other person’s heart.
Jiang Liu helplessly patted Jun Qingmeng’s hand. "I’m fine. Don’t overthink it."
"I asked about your family because I was thinking, if we plan to get married in the future, I’ll definitely have to meet them. If I know what your dad does, at least I’ll have some idea of what to expect."
"I didn’t mean to blame you."
As Jiang Liu said the last sentence, he stroked Jun Qingmeng’s hair.
Jun Qingmeng was touched, her eyes turning slightly red. She suddenly threw herself into Jiang Liu’s arms.
Smelling Jiang Liu’s scent, she felt both moved and terribly overwrought.
For the past two days, Jun Qingmeng had been constantly worried about Jiang Liu meeting her dad.
She hadn’t expected that Jiang Liu was also thinking about it with her in mind.
SOB SOB.
"Jiang Liu."
"Hm? What is it?"
"Nothing. I just missed you a little."
"Mm, I know."
Jiang Liu smiled, stroking Jun Qingmeng’s soft hair.
Tongtong was squished between the two of them. She struggled to poke her head out for a breath of air, but even so, she wasn’t willing to move away.
She loved it when her mommy and daddy held her in their arms together.
Jun Qingmeng hesitated for a moment before looking up and saying, "Jiang Liu, there’s something I have to tell you."
"What is it?"
Jun Qingmeng took a deep breath, her expression solemn. "It’s like this. My dad wanted to set me up with someone. I told him I already had a boyfriend, so he said he absolutely must meet you."
"For the past couple of days, I haven’t known how to bring this up with you."
Jiang Liu said, "Then I’ll just meet your dad. What’s the big deal?"
Jun Qingmeng’s pretty face was a mask of anxiety and worry.
"Well, it’s because, um... my dad... there’s something off about him. He’s very, very mean. He’s strict and harsh with people, loves to find fault, and... he’s not interested in good food. He just likes to bury his head in work."
After she finished, Jun Qingmeng carefully watched Jiang Liu’s expression. When she saw that he didn’t flinch, she found herself liking him even more.
After listening, Jiang Liu said with a smile, "So, you’re worried your dad will tear me down and reject me?"
"Mhm!" Jun Qingmeng nodded. "I was just thinking, what if my dad and his stinking temper yell at you, and you leave me?"
Jiang Liu gave Jun Qingmeng a light flick on the forehead.
Jun Qingmeng: ?!!!
Tongtong quickly covered her excited little eyes.
Jiang Liu said, "Do you really think I’m that quick to leave? It seems like every other word out of your mouth is ’leaving,’ isn’t it?"
Before Jun Qingmeng could speak, Jiang Liu continued, "What if my dad met you and started yelling at you right away? Would you leave me?"
Jun Qingmeng quickly retorted, "Of course not! Your parents are very gentle and kind to me."
"I’m just giving a hypothetical. What if they were?"
"Mmm, I definitely wouldn’t."
"Exactly. So if you, as a girl, wouldn’t leave, then I, as your boyfriend, wouldn’t give up over something like this either. Understand?"
Jun Qingmeng relaxed a little.
She guessed her dad would definitely say a lot of nasty things. It would be great if Jiang Liu could handle it.
Jun Qingmeng rested her head against Jiang Liu’s chest and said softly, "Jiang Liu, can we go see my dad in a few days, then? Just give me a few more days to prepare."
This was something she couldn’t avoid. A meeting that had to happen, would happen. Even if she was facing a terrifying monster, as long as Jiang Liu was by her side, she felt safe and warm.
Jiang Liu nodded. "It’s okay, there’s no rush. When you’re ready, just let me know ahead of time."
Jun Qingmeng lay against Jiang Liu, completely unguarded.
The collar of her short-sleeved shirt parted,
revealing her delicate and enchanting fair collarbones.
