Chapter 556 - 556: Surgery in the Car

  • Next Chapter

Bone Woman raced the car toward the county hospital at the foot of the mountain, pushing the speed to its absolute limit while ensuring the ride remained smooth.

The smoothness was so Zhao Yuan could better treat the patients. The speed was to race against the clock.

With external injuries this severe, every wasted minute brought the patients closer to danger, closer to death.

Inside the car, Zhao Yuan crouched on the folded-down back seat. From his Storage Ring Space, he retrieved stone surgical instruments, saline solution, alcohol-soaked cotton balls, and other supplies. He always kept these emergency items on hand. He had stockpiled another batch before his trip to Putuo Mountain Island to hunt the Raccoon Power.

The three victims were either unconscious or extremely weak, so Zhao Yuan wasn't worried about them noticing anything unusual.

He first used forceps and scissors to carefully debride the necrotic tissue from the child's neck wound. Then, he rinsed the wound with saline solution. With forceps holding a cotton ball in his left hand, he cleaned out the clotted blood, while his right hand held surgical clamps, poised to act.

As he cleared the clotted blood from the wound, Zhao Yuan spotted the severed carotid artery. 'Found it. Right here!'

Under these conditions, an ordinary person would struggle to locate the severed vessel. But Zhao Yuan was different. His vision was far sharper than a normal person's, rivaling that of a hawk.

'I have to clamp the severed ends first,' he thought. 'Otherwise, the slightest jolt will cause them to shift and I'll lose them.'

Performing surgery in a moving car was infinitely more difficult than in an operating room. This was especially true on this rugged, treacherous stretch of road. Even with Bone Woman's superb driving skills, bumps were inevitable, ratcheting up the difficulty of the procedure.

But even so, Zhao Yuan remained perfectly calm.

He took a deep breath and used two surgical clamps to secure both ends of the severed carotid artery. He then used surgical scissors to trim the vessel ends slightly before finally taking out a surgical needle and vascular suture to begin the carotid artery repair.

This procedure was widely recognized as highly difficult. The slightest mistake could lead to failure, resulting in anything from post-operative complications like partial paralysis to, in severe cases, immediate death.

Zhao Yuan's hands moved with both speed and stability as he sutured the severed vessel. If a surgical expert were present to witness his work, they would be utterly astonished. Hands that steady, precise, and swift were impossible to achieve without many years of clinical surgical experience.

For a young man of about twenty to possess hands that would make any surgeon envious was simply shocking and unbelievable.

As the seconds and minutes ticked by, Zhao Yuan gradually sutured the child's severed carotid artery.

Just as he was about to complete the surgery, the car suddenly lurched violently.

Fortunately, Zhao Yuan's reflexes were fast. His left hand clamped down on the child's body while his right hand kept the needle and thread embedded in the vessel perfectly still, managing to avoid any sway and preventing accidental injury.

However, the patient with the femoral artery injury and the mother with multiple wounds were thrown against the car's interior by the swerve. Fortunately, the impact didn't cause them significant further harm.

"What happened?" Zhao Yuan asked, looking up.

Bone Woman explained, "I was overtaking on a turn when another car came speeding from the opposite direction. I had to swerve to avoid it."

Zhao Yuan glanced back and saw an ambulance behind them, heading up the mountain.

It was most likely an ambulance from the nearby town clinic. There was no way one from the county hospital could have gotten here so quickly.

Turning back to his work, Zhao Yuan added with some lingering fear, "We're in a rush, but we have to be safe. The last thing I want is to get into an accident halfway there."

Without turning her head, Bone Woman replied, "Rest assured, Master. I'll be careful."

Zhao Yuan wanted to say more, but after a moment's hesitation, he decided against it. He lowered his head and resumed suturing the child's carotid artery.

Before long, the suturing of the severed carotid artery was complete.

Only then did Zhao Yuan release the clamps holding the two ends of the artery. He then began to suture the neck wound.

At that moment, Bone Woman, driving the Mercedes G55 SUV, reached Bahu Town. "Master, we've arrived in Bahu Town," she said. "Should we stop by the town clinic?"

"Yes!" Zhao Yuan said without looking up. "The clinic will have plasma expanders and other anti-shock medications, which we desperately need right now. With those supplies, we'll have a much better chance of keeping these three alive!"

"Understood. I'm heading there now!" Bone Woman immediately pulled up the navigation and followed the directions to the Bahu Town clinic. After laying on the horn, she leaped out of the car and shouted to the medical staff inside, "We have critically injured victims from the rockslide! We need plasma expanders and anti-shock medication!"

The Bahu Town clinic had already received a call from the health bureau and had dispatched an ambulance to retrieve the injured. Hearing Bone Woman's shouts, the clinic's director, Chen Qiang, rushed out and asked, "Where are the patients? What's their condition?"

"In the car!" Bone Woman said. "Their condition is critical. They need to be transferred to the county hospital for surgery immediately."

Chen Qiang hurried over to the Mercedes G55, peering inside. He saw Zhao Yuan performing a hemostatic procedure on the mother, who was bleeding profusely. The technique he was witnessing left him dumbfounded—not because it was bad, but because it was *too* good. Chen Qiang couldn't believe that someone was performing an incredibly difficult surgery so smoothly and perfectly inside a car.

As a surgeon himself, Chen Qiang understood better than anyone just how masterful and extraordinary the technique Zhao Yuan was demonstrating truly was.

Zhao Yuan noticed someone standing outside. He glanced up and said, "All three patients have severe blood loss. I need plasma expanders! I also need cardiotonic, anti-shock, and intracranial hypertension medications!"

Chen Qiang was so stunned by the young man's commanding presence that he subconsciously responded in the tone of a subordinate. "Yes, yes, I'll get it arranged for you right away."

After snapping out of it, though still bewildered, he wasted no time. He immediately rushed to the pharmacy and had the pharmacists gather all the medications Zhao Yuan required.

He also called over the most skilled nurse in the clinic. Returning to the Mercedes, he said to Zhao Yuan, "Yong Qin is our best nurse. Have her accompany you down the mountain and act as your assistant."

"Alright," Zhao Yuan agreed with a nod.

Yong Qin quickly climbed into the vehicle, and the required medications were placed on the front passenger seat.

After Zhao Yuan thanked Chen Qiang, Bone Woman quickly turned the car around, sped out of the clinic, and raced toward the county hospital at the foot of the mountain.
