Chapter 526 - 526: Not Only Fierce, But Also Cunning

"Why'd it stop?" Hao Li turned, astonished to see the Raccoon Power just roaring and hesitating, not moving forward.

Ying Ji frowned. "It most likely discovered the trap."

"No way. A beast that smart? It can really detect the trap we set up beforehand?" Cheng Haoyu's jaw dropped, his face a mask of disbelief.

Zhao Yuan agreed with Ying Ji's speculation. "Don't forget, the Raccoon Power isn't a normal animal, it's an Exotic Beast! Even if its intelligence can't compare to ours, it's still far higher than that of a typical animal. Besides, Wild Beasts have a keen sense of danger, to say nothing of Exotic Beasts. It's not surprising at all that it could sense our trap."

Hao Li's face fell. "So what now? It's not coming any closer. Detonating the explosives will be useless."

Cheng Haoyu looked even more frustrated. "If I had known this beast was so clever, why would I have wasted my energy setting this trap? We should've just found a way to strap the explosives right onto it. Simple and brutal."

"We need to keep provoking it. If we can make it angry enough to lose all reason, it'll charge into the trap even if it senses it!" As he spoke, Zhao Yuan opened his Storage Ring Space, pulled out an automatic rifle, and aimed for the Raccoon Power's right eye before opening fire.

The Raccoon Power saw through his attempt and spun around, shielding its head with its massive body. The bullets Zhao Yuan fired all slammed into its hide, producing a series of CLANGS like they were hitting a steel plate. The rounds ricocheted off and fell uselessly to the ground.

Other than causing the Raccoon Power some minor pain, the bullets only managed to shatter the earthen armor on its body, leaving nothing but white marks on its tough, thick hide.

"AWOOOO!" The Raccoon Power let out a ferocious, dog-like howl. It drove its tusks into a nearby tree as thick as a washbasin, instantly ripping it from the ground. With a violent swing of its body, the seven-to-eight-meter-tall tree went flying with a WHOOSH, hurtling toward Zhao Yuan and his companions.

One tree wasn't enough for the Raccoon Power. It repeated the process, uprooting several more and hurling them. Zhao Yuan and the others were forced to constantly dodge, leaving them no opportunity to attack, much less enrage the beast and lure it into their trap.

After finally dodging all the trees, the breathless group discovered the Raccoon Power had turned around and was once again charging toward the Dang Kang.

Hao Li blurted out, "Damn it, a feint! It was luring us away!"

Seeing this, Zhao Yuan and the others understood. The Raccoon Power hadn't actually expected to kill them by throwing trees. It was just trying to stall them.

The Raccoon Power had only ever had one target: the Dang Kang mother and her young!

If it could devour these Auspicious Beasts, its power would increase dramatically! After that, wiping out Zhao Yuan and the other humans would be child's play.

Despite its massive size, the Raccoon Power wasn't the least bit clumsy. It was incredibly fast, like a speeding armored car, and its presence was utterly terrifying. Any normal person witnessing such a sight would be scared witless, their legs giving out, or they might even faint on the spot.

But Dang Kang's Mother showed no fear. She bravely met the Raccoon Power head-on, launching a counter-charge of her own!

At a time like this, she couldn't afford to be afraid. Her two children were right behind her. She had to stop the Raccoon Power. No matter what, she could not let it harm her babies!

Dang Kang's Mother's charge was also quite fast.

But compared to the Raccoon Power, the difference in their sizes was just too great. It made the impending collision a truly tragic sight.

In the blink of an eye, they collided.

Just before impact, Dang Kang's Mother leaped from the ground, curling her body into a ball. With a loud THUD, she slammed headfirst into the Raccoon Power.

The Raccoon Power's furious charge was brought to a dead stop by the impact.

However, Dang Kang's Mother was in far worse shape. She was sent flying, snapping several branches before crashing heavily to the ground. A trickle of blood flowed from the corner of her mouth.

The two Little Dang Kang immediately scrambled out from their hiding spot in the bushes. They stumbled to their mother's side, circling her and crying out incessantly. Even without understanding their calls, the worry and concern for their mother was obvious in their voices.

Dang Kang's Mother struggled to her feet, but her body, already weak, had suffered internal injuries from the violent collision. She couldn't get up at all.

The Raccoon Power, however, had recovered. It charged toward the three Dang Kang, opened its cavernous mouth, and prepared to devour them whole.

Just then, something shot in from the side with incredible speed. Before the Raccoon Power could react, it slammed hard into the side of its head. The immense force knocked its head aside, causing it to miss the three Dang Kang and bite down on a mouthful of dirt instead.

The object that had struck it landed on the ground—it was an automatic rifle.

It was the gun Zhao Yuan had thrown.

They had rushed to help the moment they saw what was happening, but the distance was too great and the Raccoon Power was too fast. Seeing that the Dang Kang were about to be eaten, Zhao Yuan used the Whip Skill from his Mountain-Breaking Fist to hurl his automatic rifle—empty and with no time to reload—like a projectile.

He had saved the three Dang Kang in the nick of time!

The Raccoon Power was furious, but it had no time for Zhao Yuan. It just wanted to eat the meal that was right in front of it.

However, just as it lunged for the three Dang Kang again, the White Cat leaped down from a tree. It snatched up the two Little Dang Kang and flung them onto its back, then grabbed Dang Kang's Mother. Just as the Raccoon Power's jaws snapped shut, the cat shot away like a gust of wind, leaving the beast to once again chew on a mouthful of dirt.

Having its meal snatched away twice in a row sent the Raccoon Power into a rage. It was about to give chase to the White Cat when Zhao Yuan and the others charged in.

"Don't get cocky, you big oaf! Master Fatty is about to carve you into eight pieces and mince you into paste!" With a roar, Hao Li leaped high into the air. Despite his size, his movements were surprisingly nimble. In a single bound, he landed on the Raccoon Power's back and brought his Bone-Cutting Saber down hard on its neck.

CLANG!

With a violent crash, Hao Li's Bone-Cutting Saber, forged from high-quality steel, shattered on impact. On the Raccoon Power's neck, only a few strands of fur were severed. The blade hadn't even broken the skin, leaving nothing more than a faint mark.

'I refuse to believe I can't break through your defense if I keep hitting the same spot!' Hao Li roared, pulling another Bone-Cutting Saber from his Storage Ring Space. But before he could strike again, the Raccoon Power bucked violently, throwing him from its back.
